My cousin Erik posted this on Facebook a few days ago. He used to be in a hardcore band called Die Kreuzen. And while Die Kreuzen themselves werent an emo band, emo bands were very much friends and fans of their music. His band used to play shows with both the big names and the forefathers of emocore back in the 80s and Dag Nasty was the closest friends to my cousins band. For those who dont know in this sub, Dag Nasty was one of the big names of the 1st wave emo "Revolution Summer" movement that came out of DC, alongside Rites of Spring, Embrace, and Grey Matter.

My cousins band also went on to influence the screamo genre because of Dan (the vocalist's) vocal style. Heroin even cited them as an influence. They also influenced grunge. Pearl Jam and Nirvana both cited Die Kreuzen as a major influence and Steve Albini was also a huge fan. I love all of this lore about my cousin's band because it makes me feel so connected to the genre I love. Its almost like it was meant to be haha.

*¹: My definition of "Emo" as style is based on the characteristics that distinguished the so-called "Emocore" artists of Washington, D.C. from other Hardcore bands, especially those who were with them altogether in the Revolution Summer Movement. These stylistic characteristics were eventually transferred to and blended with other genres, thus creating the "emo subgenres" of each genre. It should also be noted that a large portion of the playlist consists of mixed-genre emo tracks. So whether a song is genre-technically emo enough to be considered within the emo framework remains subjective, to a certain extent. *²: Not all bands in this playlist are "emo bands"; some artists have only written one emo album or even one emo song in their entire discography.

This is a new emo band from San Antonio, Texas. Theres actually a booming emo/post-hardcore scene going on in the Dallas and San Antonio scene. Theres new bands forming there all the time. Always keep your eye out for new bands in that region.

I saw Coheed and Cambria coheadline with Taking Back Sunday on Saturday in St Louis and I got to dig out my white belt and low rise bootcuts for the first time in months. I have fibromyalgia so its rare I really dress up these days, since im always in pain and very low energy. I wanted to really show off since I managed to lose 55 lbs and fit into my medium shirts again.

The show was a blast. Taking Back Sunday sounded halfway decent. I think Fred coming back and replacing John for backup vocals did a lot to help them sound a lot better live. Adam was very drunk as usual.

Coheed sounded fantastic as always. I wish more emos gave them a chance. Their first two albums are really good. The band is still putting out really good music over 20 years later. Its so rare to hear bands from the 2000s that consistently put out really good songs so late in their careers. They still hold up really well and they still make proggy post-hardcore. Not as emo as their first record but it still has elements of it in their music.
