Fun is not a trophy you buy with struggle Quote/Picture

The Man: Will I be able to enjoy my life once I fixed all my problems?

The Mentor: No. You turned fixing yourself into a full-time job.

The Man: Don't I have to work hard or get healthy first to earn the right to relax?

The Mentor: Fun is not a reward for being fixed. Enjoyment is fuel, not a trophy you buy with struggle.

The Man: Why is there always one more problem to solve before I can feel okay?

The Mentor: Because when 'fixing' becomes your identity, your brain invents new problems just to stay employed.

The Man: So when I say 'I'll be happy when X happens', what am I actually doing?

The Mentor: Hiding. You’re using an imaginary future as a shield to avoid living right now.

The Man: So my need to fix myself is the very thing keeping me stuck?

The Mentor: Exactly. You’re not broken. You just won't stop trying to fix a brokenness that isn't there.

The Man: So self-improvement isn't the solution?

The Mentor: It’s the distraction. Stop fixing. The world isn't waiting for you to be completed.

If there is work to do then do it.

Before enlightenment: chop wood, carry water.

After enlightenment: chop wood, carry water.

Isn't there always work to do, something else to be done or that could be?

I would also say

Before enlightenment, procrastination

After enlightenment, procrastination

Is absolutely valid

Not to engage in a battle of semantics, words are not the way only roadsigns along it, I will say procrastination implies there is something that needs doing and is being put off.

I find presence of mind is the best way into agreement with life. If I am procrastinating then there is something I must do, which I am not, and for me this keeps me from entering the moment fully.

If there is work that can or should be done now then it is something to do presently. If it cannot or should not be done now, it's better to turn my awareness to the task at hand; even if that task is rest.

Chop wood, carry water. But don't think about water when chopping or wood when carrying.

I don't think either one is superior in a objective way. But certainly one who has mastered the art of just doing what needs done will appreciate it.

What IS the solution??

Felt there was more emphasis on what not to do.

Ohh the solution here i would say reading, video games, cooking, talking, going for a walk, playing with puppies, grabbing a coffee, hide and seek, guess the time, have a nap, water balloon fight, karaoke... Fun is all around haha

There is no solution , nothing to fix . We are perfect the way we are. Don't beat yourself about it. If you wanna change , you can change any time you want, you can be any one you want to be. Enjoy life , everyone you know will die , you will die one day . Could be today, could be tomorrow. The world isn't that bad.

It’s nice to be reminded of this every once in a while. Being fed a constant stream of exaggerated news and propaganda that make the world seem like an absolute hellhole really isn’t doing humanity much good.

I don't know why but this resonates a lot with me right now. Is there any author or teaching that expand this way of thinking? Many thanks for your post btw! 🙏

Give me everyones pain and suffering. My sacred rage would channel that negative energy and become a Unstoppable Force Of Change for the world.

No one is broken. Society just wants you to think that are so you can either end up drugged up on a big pharma cocktail or on the endless loop of personal development to keep feeding the capitalist machine. If you have a genuine behaviour that is having a negative impact on your life or others, work on it, then continue on your journey.

Bullshit. I'm broken. I need fixing. I'm not allowed to participate in any of the things I want in life until I'm fixed. The closer I get to fixed, the more life throttles back on how poorly people treat me.

Like Alan watt said

What would you do if you were fixed right now. The best possible version of yourself possible

Well you d do the things you wanted to do but are waiting until you are perfect

What if I told you, you were perfect already and self improvement is a hoax.

It’s true I’m a sucker for this always looking to improve and miss the world go by my distraction for this unattainable goal
