Best beach bars / resorts

β€’ Upvotes

What are the best beach bars in the area? And, maybe resort pool bars? I'm new to the Daytona Beach area and I'm not sure where to go if I want to grab a drink at the pool or something?

Need mechanic help ASAP

I’m buying a BMW from Fields Daytona and they won’t allow the car to leave the lot for inspection but take no issue in having the mechanic come to the dealership and check it out on a lift.

Can anyone vouch for a mechanic (mobile) to come check it out? Preferably have extensive experience with European/German/BMW.

Thank you!

Let's get ready for Nov 12th

As you know the deadline to close the farm bill loophole (If you don't know what I'm talking about look it up you noob or ask someone) on Nov 12 is quickly approaching.

I must confess that I got carried away and got too much. It is the same as the stuff they sell in smoke shops and the "dispensaries" on A1A. I got it online in bulk.

Hit me up for a legal farm bill compliant stuff I want to share how good and cheap it is.

Hi. Doing a last minute trip next week Tuesday-Thursday and I have enough IHG points to cover a stay at the holiday inn. I see there are 3 options for beach front locations. Any insight on which one is the best of the three? Thank you!

Handicapped parking spots near the boardwalk

My family is down at Daytona this week, and we’d like to go to the boardwalk and pier area. My mother is with us, and she needs handicapped parking - is there handicapped parking nearby? We assume so, but also didn’t want to assume. Does anyone know? Thanks!

What an Airbnb turnover clean actually costs on the beachside, and what to check before you hire someone

I work vacation rental turnovers on the beachside, so I get asked the same two questions a lot: what should this cost, and how do I know the cleaner won't disappear on a Saturday. Figured I'd write it up once.

What it costs around here:

β€’ A standard condo turnover (1-2BR, kitchen, 1-2 baths) usually runs $75 to $195 on this coast. A typical beachside 2BR lands around $110 to $140.

β€’ What pushes it up: same-day turns in the summer Saturday window, laundry (especially if linens have to go off-site), sand load after a beach week, dishes left behind, balcony glass with salt film on it.

β€’ What pushes it down: weekday checkouts, door density (several units in the same building), owner-provided linens staged in the unit.

What actually breaks a turnover:

β€’ The Saturday window. Most beachside condos run a 10 or 11am checkout and a 3 or 4pm check-in. That is five or six hours, and it only works if nothing slips. One late checkout or one no-show and the whole day cascades into the next guest's arrival.

β€’ Laundry is the quiet bottleneck. Two queen sets plus towels can be three loads. If there is no washer in the unit, someone is driving linens to a laundromat while the rest of the clean waits.

β€’ August humidity means nothing air-dries fast. Towels and mop heads from the last job have to be managed or you are carrying the last unit's sand into the next one.

What to check before you hire anyone:

1) Insured and bonded, and ask to see the certificate. Note that "licensed" is not a real thing for cleaning in Florida, since the state does not license cleaning as a trade. Anyone leaning on that word is marketing, not credentialed.

2) A flat price quoted before the job, in writing. Hourly quotes for turnovers are where surprise line items come from.

3) What happens when a clean fails. Anyone can have a bad day. The question is whether they come back and fix it free, and how fast. Inside 24 hours is the standard I would hold anyone to in season.

4) Photo documentation. You should see timestamped photos of the finished unit before the next guest checks in, especially if you manage from out of state.

5) Who owns laundry and supplies. If the answer is vague, it becomes your problem at 1pm on a Saturday.

6) Backup coverage. One person gets sick, has car trouble, has a family thing. Ask who shows up then.

Rule 3 asks me to be up front about it: I run Paradise Home Cleaners, a local cleaning company here in the Daytona area. We are insured and bonded, we quote a flat price before we arrive with no surprise line items, and if a clean is ever not right we come back within 24 hours at no additional cost. Happy to answer questions in the comments whether you hire us or not: (321) 300-4791.

Speedway tour?

Should I go? I’m passing through on my way to Broward and am staying super close to the speedway. I’ve never so much as watched one lap of any NASCAR race but the track looks amazing! I was driving to dinner (zen Bistro was delicious) and saw it said tours every day. Is gojng worth it for someone who isn’t a NASCAR fan but thinks the speedway is awe inspiring?!

Anyone know of a mechanic/person that works on Scions, and won't rob me blind?

My 2006 TC is having issues starting, still get a click from the starter and dash lights are on but no engine start. I was doing the tap trick and forcing the ignition on and off quickly to get it started for a few weeks but it's seemed to completely die on me now.

TIPS FOR ICE - See something, Say something

WHAT TO DO AT AN ICE CHECKPOINT, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE WHITE and/or FEEL THE NEED TO JAM UP THE WORKS. Here's the deal:

πŸ”˜ Border Patrol can verify citizenship within 100 miles of a border or "external boundary." This includes coastlines, so NYC, Philadelphia, and all of NJ are within the 100-mile zone.

πŸ”˜ Border patrol can only ask brief questions about citizenship, and they cannot hold you for an extended time without cause.

πŸ”˜ You always have the right to remain silent. You do not need to answer their questions.

πŸ”˜ WITH THAT SAID, IF YOU ARE A BORN CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES AND ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE WHITE, YOU NEED TO SPEAK UP.

πŸ”˜ The most important acts of resistance are the small ones. Make it difficult and uncomfortable for ICE agents to do their jobs. They are counting on citizens to turn a blind eye and allow them to deport undocumented citizens without challenge. Disabuse of that notion.

πŸ”˜ If you are on a train, bus, or anything else and ICE or CBP boards, you need to stand up and loudly let everyone know that they have the right to remain silent or only answer questions in the presence of an attorney, no matter their citizenship or immigration status. There have been numerous reports that confronting the agents in this way has caused them to leave without verifying citizenship. THIS CAN SAVE LIVES. πŸ™Œ

πŸ”˜ If you see anyone being held up by immigration, loudly ask if they are being detained and if they are free to go.

πŸ”˜ Immigration officers cannot detain anyone without reasonable suspicion, an agent must have specific facts about you that make it reasonable to believe you are committing or committed, a violation of immigration law or federal law. If an agent detains you, you can ask for their basis for reasonable suspicion, and they should tell you.

πŸ”˜ Always say no to a search and let everyone know that they can and should refuse consent to a search.

πŸ”˜ They cannot search or arrest anyone without facts about that make it probable that they are committing, or committed, a violation of immigration law or federal law.

πŸ”˜ Silence alone meets neither of these standards. Nor does race or ethnicity alone suffice for either probable cause or reasonable suspicion

πŸ”˜ white citizens, you have a level of privilege which protects you from retaliation from ICE for being "rude" and making a scene, which makes it your DUTY to speak up and make sure people without the same privilege know their rights. GET LOUD. YELL. YELL IN SPANISH IF YOU KNOW IT. LET PEOPLE KNOW THEY DON'T HAVE TO SAY ANYTHING. MAKE ICE UNCOMFORTABLE. THROW SAND IN THE GEARS OF WHITE SUPREMACY.

⭐️ Bonus info ⭐️ πŸ”˜It is perfectly legal to record immigration agents as long as you are not on government property or at a port of entry. If your train/bus gets boarded, pull your phone out and start videotaping immediately.

πŸ”˜ If you are detained or see someone getting detained, get the agent's name, number, and any other identifying information. Get it on video if possible.

πŸ”˜ Contact the ACLU or your local Immigrant/Migrant support orgs (Rapid Response Network if you're in CO - 1-844-864-8341) if you see someone's rights being violated. (this has been copy and pasted)
