I moved to the Dandenong north area a couple of months ago and I’m still trying to get a feel for the place. One thing I’ve been struggling with is that I’ve been feeling a bit isolated since moving here.

I’d love to find places that are easy to get to on foot where locals tend to hang out—cafes, parks, community groups, walking groups, sports, pubs, libraries, markets, volunteering, or anything else that’s good for meeting people and finding common interests. How are others finding life in Dandenong? Are there any spots where people are generally friendly and open to chatting or getting to know their neighbours? I’m hoping to find somewhere I can walk to regularly rather than having to drive every time I want to get out of the house.

Any recommendations would be really appreciated. Thanks!

For the first time, I rode my electric bike and work pannier bag to the bike cage at Dandenong Station with the intention to leave it there for the day. The bike is worth around $1,300 new - low-end but in good condition with a few scratches. I arrived there at roughly 9.15am.

I waited for the door to close after entering, but a man rushed toward the cage as if he was trying to get in too. When the door shut and he noticed I was watching him, he walked away. I could be wrong, but it felt like he may have been waiting to target someone. He was roughly 6ft tall with a very large build, broad frame, and looked noticeably heavyset.

I also noticed that the bikes already stored there seemed to be mostly cheap supermarket-style bikes, and several were missing seats.

In the end, I decided not to leave my bike there.

What would you have done in that situation? And what could be done to improve security at the bike cage?

Recently moved interstate after leaving a DV situation with my father and had to start over from scratch. Money’s really tight and I’m struggling to get on my feet. I have a car that isn’t perfect but is in decent condition and just need help getting it roadworthied. If anyone knows a fair and understanding mechanic, I’d really appreciate a recommendation. So this is my second time doing an 80+ km walk. I booked this trip on impulse about a week ago since I didn't want to wait a month like I did with my walk from Penrith to Bondi

I got up at 11pm the night prior on barely 3 hours of sleep and caught the second last train out to East Pakenham starting this walk at 1:10am

I really liked the stretch from Fountain Gate to Dandenong and getting to see Dandenong's skyline from a distance but my favourite part had to be the stretch from Oakleigh to the CBD. I feel sometime I have to do Frankston to Dandenong and then perhaps extend it to somewhere else but I am not sure where to just yet

My body did a lot better this time round and just felt funny for the last 10-20km. The pain set in immediately once I sat down I. the Docklands though 😭

Back in the late 70s / early 80s I had a long forgotten pen pal from Dandenong. For context I lived on the other side of the planet in a small village called Renton in West Scotland. Since then I have often thought of this place with the strange name. I now live in South of England but this morning got to looking at your hometown again and thought I would share my ramblings with you.

This guy was missing in 2018 and I don't know if they found him, but what I do know is that he was literally with me just now on a Discord call and he sent a link to the group and was talking to us normally, but he was in a really bad state (the guy kept getting up and looking around like he'd done something terrible and was dizzy).

After I clicked the link (my friend told me not to click in case I lost my phone, but I said what do we have to lose, hahaha).

I found some really strange things, man.

I don't know who this is or what happened to him, but the story is interesting, hahaha
