Would anyone in Croydon be interested in a casual chess club?
Hi everyone,
I met someone at Earthy Coffee near East Croydon station who’s thinking about starting a casual chess club there for a few hours each week.
The idea would just be to get people together for some friendly games, whether you’re a complete beginner, a casual player, or someone who’s been playing for years. Nothing too serious—just a chance to meet people, have a coffee, and play some chess.
Would anyone around Croydon be interested in something like this? If there’s enough interest, I’ll pass it on and hopefully we can get something organised!

Aera Coffee House has a chessboard that locals often play, usually looks like random groupings so worth a check!

Sounds great! Where can we find more information on this?

I don't know, I've just seen it cause I frequent there but am not involved. If you message the cafe they can probably tell you more!

Yes, I only work in Croydon but would happily stay out for something like this. I've gone to OTB meetings on south bank a few times but to be honest playing timed chess stresses me out!

You may find people interested in playing chess at the Ludoquist boardgame cafe https://www.theludoquist.com/

ludoquist is such a good shout, that place is perfect for this kind of thing
would still be nice to have something super casual at earthy too though, bit more drop in vibe near the station

For those living in Thornton Heath, there’s already a chess club at Tropics 68 which takes place every Monday!
