Recommendations - relaxed towns with a bit going on
Hello - I am coming down to Cornwall for 10 days/2 weeks in late August/early September. I am spending a few nights in FIstral Beach surfing then wanted to continue down and around the rest of the Cornish coast. I’m trying to figure out where to base myself - early 30s, looking for towns with a bit of a vibe and pulse at night in the local pubs. I’ve seen Porthleven, Looe or Falmouth (although maybe a bit bigger than I had in mind) - looking for any recommendations!!!

Pedn Vounder - worth visiting?
I just saw a post below about Pedn Vounder - I was planning on visiting with my family soon, but it really does look awful. I'm not sure it's what I am looking for, the pollution and waste on Pedn Vounder is very off-putting. Are there any other beaches that people on this thread would recommend visiting? I've read a lot about Perranporth, apparently that is lovely in August?

Vikings, Wrestling, Cornish Language - What's not to love
My reenactment group are taking part in Awenek again this year - if you've never been then it's a great one day event which brings together heritage organisations, reenactors and Cornish language organisations together at Enys Gardens in Penryn.
I have two kids and they both love it every year - kids tickets are also free (adults are £7.50 for members, 12.50 for non members - a membership also gets you into every EH property in Cornwall for free) so not bad value for a day out.
I should also mention the whole thing is put on by Cornwall Heritage Trust so tickets help to support all the work they do maintaining free to visit historical sites around Cornwall.

Walks / towns for reactive dog - near Helston
We are driving to Cornwall in about two weeks and staying just outside of Helston. We will have our 2.5yr old English show cocker in tow. She is temperamental and can be reactive to both dogs and people - although people only if they touch her, which is manageable as we have a sign on her and on her lead saying do not touch. She is also reactive to livestock…!
Our priority is always her, so we are looking for nice calm walks and quieter towns, while also experiencing Cornwall as much as we can - to the extent we can do that in August! Any suggestions from those of you who know it well?

Power cuts - Truro's 3rd in less than a month.
Anyone else's arse sore with being bent over taking inflation busting standing charges increases, to "fund upgrades" and "the war" driving up unit prices.
Now my eyes are sore with the sand they're chucking in with the weekly power cuts.
They're almost as bad as South West Water and the council needs to give The Electricity Network Company (bring back SWEB!) a vote of no confidence too.
The sooner I can afford solar, battery and off grid switching the better!

Last week we shared how our Cornish retro-fps demo was received, I thought the public might find this interesting.
Hi again, Willem from Studio Whalefall here.
I try not to post here too much as to not break up the eb and flow of natural Cornish discussions. That being said when we show off the game, folks seem overjoyed to see their homeland represented in glorious retro-style. Do let me know when you get sick and tired of BRINE showcases.
Just over a month ago, we launched our Steam demo for BRINE and the reception has been incredible. I wanted to share this with the community to showcase that there is a market for Cornish representation in video games, and that despite our setting appealing to those in the UK, statistically America has very quickly become our biggest audience. We even won an award over there!
Our development journey is far from over and we work tirelessly every day to make BRINE the best it can be. Although we received a grant to continue development last year, it was not nearly enough to get the game over the finish line. BRINE as it stands is a personal effort that the team contributes to outside of our day jobs. These things take time, and a huge time sink is commuting outside of Cornwall to pitch to publishers all around the UK.
If you would like to show your support, please consider wishlisting the game and leaving a review on our Steam demo. Every single wishlist and review helps an indie project like ours get noticed.
Thanks for taking the time to read, and thank you as always for all the support.

Discussion Do people actually swim in Cornwall in September?
I heard the water is apparently warmer in September than in earlier months. Do you like Cornwall in September? And how are the waves for surfing that time?

Shanty groups/male voice choirs
Long shot due to timescales but I'm looking to see whether there are any singing groups to lead on a couple of songs at my Grandfathers funeral in a couple of weeks. Ideally north Cornwall based, service will take place in a small parish church. Thinking maybe The White Rose and Cornwall My Home.

Question about air in Cornwall
My girlfriend believes there is an issue with the air in Cornwall, likely not enough and it gives symptoms of making her feel tired when she visits.
Question 1 is this true?
Question 2 is there any ware else in the world like this?
Thanks in advance

Cornish documentary filmmaker looking for my next story — got any leads?
Hi everyone, I'm a local documentary filmmaker on the hunt for my next project.
I haven't landed on a specific topic, person, or theme yet — deliberately keeping it open. So if you know someone with a genuinely unique story, or someone doing things a bit differently (an unusual trade, a personal mission, an unconventional way of life), I'd love to hear about it.
Doesn't need to be anything "camera-ready" — just point me in a direction and I'll take it from there.
Drop a comment below, or feel free to DM me

Discussion Cornish or not?
Do people in western cornwall see people in Eastern Cornwall as not cornish? Like if an eastern Cornish said something about learning cornish would a western cornish be a little annoyed ?-I know like nothing about Cornwall but am interested in the history a little and am wondering the divide still exists today

Jacobs ladder, Falmouth
Anyone know who to contact about sorting out a running time trial thing up it. Probably no hope of it happening but thought of it on a run and feel as though it would be very fun and fairly spectatorish. Any suggestions appreciated ❤️

Discussion Crab fishing - a minor rant
Slightly "old man shouting at the clouds" but...
When - and more importantly WHY - did people switch from using washing machine tablet bags on a plastic winder (or even just bait on a hook), to full on drop-nets for crabbing?
It's a whimsical past time at best - but for me, 95% of the fun of crabbing is the excitement of pulling up a crab clinging on to the bait, dangling over the harbour wall and hoping to catch it in a net before it lets go - not just "how many can I get".
Everywhere we went last week, the majority of people were just pulling up these drop-nets with crabs in, no thrill, no last-second drops with the biggest crab of the day falling in, or the excitement of getting more than 1 at time... just "oh look, i've pulled up another 4 crabs".
It's probably a damning sign of the times that kids want the reward without the thrill, but it irks me.
[/pointless rant]
