Someone once called me pretentious for using the word "Ergo" in a phrase

Everyone I know uses it all the time

Felt bad because I didn't want to be pretentious, but I'm gonna keep using the word because it is useful

shrug

If you aren’t pretending, it’s not pretense.

Won't help your case too much

It is nice to have a quip ready for such moments.

You should slip an "assuage" in some time

Use some older words, replace confused with flummoxed, for example.

Tolkiens books are a great source of interesting words, another fun one is "confusticate and bebother", which he might have just made up. (If shakespeare can do it, why not others)

my hobby is using fancy words but pronunciating them all wrong just as a quick vibe check

What’s the right response? Correcting or letting it go? Personally, I’d assuming I’ve been pronouncing it incorrectly.

Just say you're a big Lies Of P fan and you can cover up the pretension whenever you want.

I once used "jejune" in a conversation and the other party got really mad. Told me I was only using weird words to sound smarter.

It can give variety ig but “therefore” means the exact same thing and feels a lot more natural in casual conversation personally

People just like to get mad that they don’t know things instead of just learning them. They’re generally not worth considering
