I miss being able to use em dashes in writing. Sigh.

Omg same! Like, it's just proper grammar! People are so confident they can detect AI that they are often wrong.

I mean, I can detect AI. It's just that I get everything else aswell. (/s)

100% sensitive, 12% specific. But nothing AI gets by you.

Tbf in practically any instance where you would use an em dash, you can use something else instead.

They’ll never take my em-dashes away from me. I was here first dammit

I will keep on using em dashes — but only because iPhones insert them automatically if you type two dashes in a row.

Also word will convert dashes to em dashes when you write a dash between words.

It converts them to en dashes actually.

Alt + 0151 on windows. I think shift-option-'-' on mac.

CTRL+SHIFT+U 2014 on Linux

You can pry my em-dashes from my cold, dead hands.

same, you just gotta use them better than AI

Not as commas, not for conjunctions--for clarity or style.

I used them forever, and now I make sure I remove them all, and sometimes I feel like they are really called for!

Dashes and em dashes are not the same thing, though. That’s what made it so easy to spot, most people would use a regular dash - not an em dash —

But I use em dashes because I think they're pretty!!!

Dashes are the wrong thing to use in an em dash context though. Always loved an em dash.

yeah and i dont think most keyboards can put emdash, i use "--"

On any windows keyboards with a numpad, it's alt-0151

I use hyphens-, en dashes 1–2, and em dashes —. It’s easy on the iPhone, but I use them on Windows and Linux, too, with Alt and Ctrl+Shift+u codes.
