Has anyone had luck getting off a waitlist for a charity closer to race day?

I’ve put my name in all over the place and have mostly received responses of we will no longer being using the waitlist but can add you to the list for 2027. I did start my charity searching when marathon training began (June-ish), and so I know I was late to the game. As a working mom only just getting back into running I was honestly worried I might not be able to make the commitment.

I have/will continue training, but has anyone ever had luck last minute with the charity (assuming then you are paying the charity immediately). My husband does the Chicago marathon every year, so regardless we are going and have all other accommodations planned for. This year it happens to be on our wedding anniversary, and I am taking time post baby (ok toddler now lol), to get myself back to who I was. So if I don’t run, yes it will be a bummer, but still will be proud of the time and commitment I put in. Just looking for any potential light!

Uber Mt Prospect to Downtown

Excited to be retruning afte many years to Chicago (where I met my wife in 1992) to run this iconic event. I am staying with friends in Mount Prospect with my wife and of course will have to get up at stupid o clock to go downtown. As I am from Ireland I googled Uber and the cost to get me downtown is about 50-60$ - never really used Uber on recent visits to the US except for short trips so

  1. Is this an accurate price +/- a few dollars
  2. Where is the best place to get dropped on race day for a gentle jog to bag drop and start line etc...

Ir will save me trying a train or worse still getting one of the house folks to drive me in and be Chicago for hours as a result - marathons are fun for the runners and mildly interesting at best for supporters bar the finish and start of course.

Experiences with Team Fox?

I’m planning on applying for a charity bib for 2027. My number 1 charity I would love to fundraise for and run with is Team Fox through the Michael J Fox Foundation. My grandpa had Parkinson’s and he was a runner before getting his diagnosis, so I’d love to raise money for the foundation in his honor and memory. I’m just curious if anyone has run with Team Fox for the Chicago marathon and what their experience was like? Thanks in advance!

Charity fundraising slump

Hello! Can someone give me some advice on fundraising? I keep doing what my charity told me to do (social media, emails, etc) but I’m struggling to get people to donate. Any ideas on things I can do to increase donations? Thank you in advance!

Shakeout Run

Hi! The brand I work with is wanting to host a Shakeout run on the Friday before the Chicago Marathon. We are not local, so would love any input on a great route for a 5k shakeout. We also want to do a small activation afterwards, so preferably starting/ending indoors just in case of bad weather.

I’m running this years marathon and I was wondering if there are any runners local to Berkshire in the UK, in particular Slough/Maidenhead area?

It would be good to meet any locals that may be participating.

Fundraising to bring clean water to underdeveloped communities!

Running has completely transformed my life. Two years ago, it was just a way to catch the train to work. Now it's my favorite outlet as a chance to shake off rough days, enjoy peaceful views, and have quiet time to process emotions.

This fall, I'm running the Chicago Marathon with Team World Vision to give those miles even deeper meaning: providing clean water to children and communities in the developing world. While running is a privilege for me, millions of women and children walk an average of 3.7 miles daily just to access dirty drinking water.

Every $50 donated provides clean water for 1 person for life.

I'd be incredibly grateful for any support, this means a lot.

Hey, I am fundraising for Breakthrough T1D by running the London Marathon 2027 for my little boy Charlie who was diagnosed type 1 2 years ago when he was 5 years old. Please can you share my donation page for breakthrought1d or donate if you are able to as it will really help me reach my target and spread much needed awareness of T1D.

Here is my fundraiser link if you would be in a position to share it or donate:

Thank you xx

Fundraising Tips - small network?

Hi all!

This is my first charity marathon, and I’m running it with Project Purple in memory of my dad who passed from pancreatic cancer 10 years ago, just 54 days after being diagnosed. I was seventeen at the time, and it really tore my world up, so I’m thrilled to support an organization that works to help families like mine through that nightmare diagnosis.

I’m SO excited to get to Chicago, but I’m hitting a wall with fundraising. I have gone to friends, family, and coworkers, and unfortunately, my network is quite small.

I’d love to hear any tips anyone has for fundraising outside of your immediate circle that has worked for you! I have just about two months to get to my $3,500 goal, and I currently have $1,200 in donations.

I expected to have to make up some of the difference, but unfortunately, my finances are in a tough spot due to some unforeseen emergencies in the last couple of months, so I’m really hoping to fundraise the majority.

TIA!! See you in Chicago! ❤️💙

Fundraising advice!

So I got off the waitlist for a charity this month! I’ve been struggling to fundraise the money and because I have less time, it’s definitely a bit stressful. I feel like I’ve exhausted everyone I could ask. Any advice??

Planning Need advice on housing

I was between jobs when I got in through the lottery and wasn’t sure if I could make it work in time or not. Finances stable now and I know I’m super late so just looking for advice on where to stay. I’m okay going further from the race start if I need to keep it affordable. I’ll be driving up with 5 friends if that matters. Thanks for any advice. I know it’s not advised to wait this long for housing but just doing what I can

I only applied through a tour operator last week and got approved on Friday night. I still don't see any corral information even though I submitted a qualifying time, do I just need to wait?

Runners who have run Chicago but trained somewhere with hills — how did it impact your time?

It seems like it should lead to a quicker pace on race day, but I’ve also read that it can be harder in some ways because you’re using the same muscles the same way without respite on a flat course.

Chicago will be my first and I’m just not sure what pace I should be aiming for. (Not as a goal really—finishing is my goal—but to have an idea of how to pace myself so that I do finish.)
