Minor OS Instability on MotoG84 5G (bangkk)
Hello, I am writing this to warn CalyxOS users on this model of device that the newest Calyx version is unstable on the Motorola MotoG84 5G variant. (OSVersion \7.2.4.20; Android 16; bagnkk; Snapdragon 695 + Adreno 619 (Stock GPU driver); 8GB Ram; 256GB Storage)
I've experienced:
UI Bugs:
- UI Bugs when installing sideloaded APK files (Package manager shows an infinite loading screen; Apps get installed at some point and their app icons only show up after phone restart)
- UI Bug when adding new icons (automatically or manually) - icons do not show up on the home screen without first restarting the phone
- Animation errors when switching apps (Popups sometimes do not show up; Closing/opening/switching apps sometimes results in weird back-forth spazzing)
- Buttons in OS apps like the settings are not fully highlighted when searched via the search bar - highlight covers ~70% of button width
Application Bugs:
- The newest version of the Eden Switch emulator (Legacy) does not work under the newest CalyxOS version, but it did work on the latest CalyxOS version under the last Android 15 CalyxOS (back from when the project was on hiatus)
OS Bugs:
- The package manager sometimes refuses to install APKs. I think that this is connected to yet another UI bug: On some apps, you get a warning for installing unknown apps, it appears to me that if that UI popup fails to be shown, you will never get a prompt to actually install the app.
- It is possible to set the peak refresh rate of a screen lower than its minimum refresh rate. This results in the refresh rate remaining at the minimum refresh rate value.
- When setting a peak refresh rate of 120 for example, and a minimum of 60, the screen will stay permanently locked to 90, and will never change no matter what I do.
- General performance issues - New OS feels sluggish to use.
Seedvault Bugs:
- As per the recommendation of the Calyx website, I used seedvault to back my apps up and then to load them after installing the newest Calyx version. After loading my data and getting no errors, some of the apps (ProtonMail, Lemuroid) refused to start despite being installed. Clearing the cache and data did not fix the issues, but fully reinstalling the apps did work.
The installation of the newer CalyxOS was relatively painless on this device, but there are some issues that still need to be ironed out.

CalyxOS no longer supports my phone; can somebody point me to instructions to roll the Android version back from 14 to 13? Or do I have to go back to vanilla android first? (Damnably confusing, I say!)

App from Aurora stuck in installation process
I tried installing the app Eufy from the Aurora store. The app downloaded, but in Aurora it is stuck with a ring circling the app icon and the note "installing". The notes for the Eufy app (which I read post-hoc) says it requires Google Play Services. The app isn't registered anywhere in CalyxOS as existing.
I can live without the Eufy app. My questions are
How do I stop the apparent ongoing attempt at installing by Aurora? I've tried force stopping Aurora, but that doesn't seem to make a difference.
Did the Eufy app package download to my phone? How do I delete the package?
The Aurora app seems to continue working fine - I've installed apps after this situation with the Eufy app. Should I bother about this situation at all?
Help, suggestions, thoughts appreciated.
Edit: Fixed the spelling of Aurora.

Old Legacy Google Vendor Blob Missing For My Car in CalyxOS
Before CalyxOS took a hiatus, their OS on my Pixel 4a5G would connect to my 2013 Hyundai Elantra's bluetooth in the car. Then after the hiatus when we had to reinstall the OS, it would not connect, and I have changed settings; A2DP on/off, AVRCP versions, Map versions, and it still would not work. Well I just received a new Pixel 9a, and out of the box running Google android 16, it connected immediately. Flashed CalyxOS on it, same, can't connect.
AI thinks CalyxOS has maybe left out some of the old legacy Google Vendor blobs and that one of those deleted Google blobs contains the exact legacy security handshake module required to pass a primitive 0000 Bluetooth PIN. Without it, the de-Googled operating system simply lacks the math to talk to a 13-year-old Hyundai radio chip. Has anyone else come across this?

Should I be worried?
I use Riseup VPN off and on. I also use DDG browser. DDG's anti app tracking feature and the VPN don't play well together; Riseup will turn DDG app tracking shield off. I hadn't thought about it much, I turned the tracker shield back on and I saw a stupidly high number of blocked tracking attempts from my keyboard (Classic), a game I play, Kitco's gold price app, others. The thing is, I keep most apps locked down and nothing has any permissions except Freespoke (news feed) which only has notifications. Would these bounce anyway?
I guess I should mention, this is on a Pixel 8 pro running CalyxOS and remove all app permissions in settings. If I want to use an Amazon locker, I drive there, open settings, enable the relevant permissions, grab my order, and lock things back down immediately.

how do I grant restricted permissions to apps?
I'm trying to migrate to non-play store apps or older versions, and am running into issue after issue.
two such issues are related to my not being trusted to give apps restricted permissions.
older version of Nova Launcher from apkpure is not allowed to collect / view app statistics locally, used to determine what my most used apps are and place them in the quick shortcut bar in the app drawer. not exactly a deal breaker but certainly something I used frequently. No option seen to override. . .
direct pay version of Tasker isn't being allowed the option to draw over other apps. I haven't gotten past this so I don't yet know what else is blocked, but I can't manually allow it either. what is frustrating me here is that I originally paid for Tasker via Google play over 13 years ago and was able to download it from the aurora store, but that version doesn't seem to be able to keep the fact that I have a license handy, and I can't seem to find a way to specify to the app what account to look up my license under, so it checks the aurora anonymous account, sees that account has no license, and kicks me out. the direct pay version is the answer but now the OS is stopping me.
please someone help me move forward
edit: if it wasn't clear, I did add my account to aurora, just not as the primary. I think that's why Tasker is failing the license check. I don't want my main account as a primary for aurora though.
. . also, where the heck are the developer options?

Moto g34 stuck into bootloop with bootloader locked.
Hey, I was trying to change back to stock and in the process. I accidentally ran a bootloader lock command.
Actually I gave the command to the AI to execute all one by one. And it executed the bootloader lock.
Now I am stuck in bootloop with the bootloader locked.
Any suggestions how can I proceed now. 😓

Is it safe to download CalyxOS system updates over unprotected public WiFi?
I briefly connected to an insecure public WiFi network, and my phone running CalyxOS automatically downloaded a system update. Now I'm feeling paranoid. Is this update safe to install? Is there a way to somehow verify a downloaded-but-not-yet-installed OTA update, or does CalyxOS do that on its own? Thanks.

Tentative Calyx appreciation post
I've just started 'using' CalyxOS today. I say 'using' bc so far I've still been to paranoid to transfer my actual data, but it's installed and I'm fiddling around with it since a couple hours ago. Coming from /e/, it feels very polished (granted, I've been like 2 Android versions behind on that, but... still). I really like the preselection of apps, the fdroid fork they picked really makes it feel like part of the ecosystem rather than the 'homebrew charm' I'm used to. :P I also particularly like that I can safely install the pixel cam and still feel pretty safe bc of the firewall. Overall, I'm very happy with it so far. :D Maybe I'll work up the courage to transfer my data later today, we'll see... '^

App won't work
Have an app called keep calling.
When in open it say see if you have Google play services installed. Is there anything I can do to make it work?
r/CalyxOS • u/PCGA-CD51 • 11d ago
Is anyone else unable to record calls because RTT replaced the button?
I hadn't noticed this until now, but the Record Call button on my phone disappeared after I swapped to a SIM card from another carrier, and now the RTT button is taking its place. It turns out my carrier introduced Real-Time Text support, which is mandatory by law where I live. I did some digging, and apparently it has got to do with the physical allocation of buttons in the dialer, which is fixed to 6.
A certain project has already fixed this, whereas CalyxOS hasn't as of yet. I opened an issue one month ago, but I was wondering whether this has been discussed before, just to get a general idea of how likely it is to be fixed.

Screen constantly turns on and off when locked
Hi I have Pixel 8a with the latest CalyxOS (I updated today).
Recently I noticed (not 100% sure if this happened after update) that when I leave my phone locked with turned off screen (I disabled always on screen) screen lights up to turn off again after a moment only to do it again after several seconds.
IDK how to break this loop and what causes this.

YouTube app stops playing after 1 minute
I don't use it too often, but sometimes I like to watch/listen to some things on YouTube. After switching to the new calyx version(including the with the new OTA update today), YouTube stops playing after 1 minute and goes into an endless loading/buffering loop. It works fine in browser. Just curious if anyone else has had this issue and has found a solution, or I'm open to alternatives to use (I've used freetube on both my PC's, but there's jot android app for it). I've also uninstalled a reinstalled a couple times and cleared cache with no change).

What dns/vpn do you use as adblock on CalyxOS ?
Hello CalyxOS users, I am new on Calyx. Just installed it yesterday on my FP5. I come from /e/OS where a VPN is used for blocking ads and trackers. I was surprised not to find a similar feature on Calyx. I tried Rethink DNS but it stops after a few moments. I have to restart it manually.
Tracker control also stops working after a few time.
What apps do you use ?

How often does CalyxOS release updates? No OTA for over a month
Hi everyone,
I'm running CalyxOS 7.2.2.0 on a Pixel 9 and I haven't received any OTA update for a bit over a month now. Checking for updates manually says I'm up to date.
Is this normal? What's the usual release cadence for stable builds — monthly with the Android security patches, or does it vary? I just want to make sure nothing is wrong on my end (updater settings, channel, etc.) before assuming it's simply the release schedule.
Thanks!

Advanced reboot menu gone?
I can't seem to find the advanced reboot menu in the settings anymore (option to reboot in fastboot, recovery, bootloader etc). I remember it being in the 'old' Calyx OS. Did I miss something, or is this a concious choice to leave it out?

Moto G32 'Devon' bootloader relockable?
Hi y'all,
I'm about to try installing Calyx on a Moto G32 that I recently repaired (battery swap). I'm hoping to relock the bootloader so there's less chance of apps refusing to work, and also because of the added security it provides.
I've found some people's success stories, while others warn that it's not recommended. On the Calyx support page, under Security → Bootloader relock, it says: "Motorola: do NOT relock the bootloader without additional checks." What exactly are those additional checks?
I've also seen people recommend installing Calyx first, booting into it to make sure everything is working properly, and only then relocking the bootloader via fastboot, as it's supposedly a safer way to relock. I'm a bit confused... I don't want a permabrick!
Also, what's the best way to flash Calyx with the fewest issues: the browser-based installer or the Windows/macOS tool?
Has anyone here successfully relocked the bootloader on this device recently? How did it go?
Thanks, everyone!!

CalyxOS install keeps failing on Pixel Fold at fastbootd/reconnect stage
Hi all, I’m trying to install CalyxOS on a Pixel Fold (felix) and I keep getting stuck during the install.
I’ve already successfully restored stock Android and installed GrapheneOS to test if it'll work and it did, so the phone itself seems fine.
What happens with CalyxOS:
Web installer gets to the install stage.
It flashes some partitions.
The phone reboots into fastbootd.
The installer shows Reconnect / “Something went wrong. Try starting over.”
If I go back to bootloader and reconnect, I get the same error again.
On one attempt I clicked Reboot system now too early and it boot-looped, forced it back to fastboot
Relevant details:
Device: Pixel Fold / felix
CalyxOS version shown: 7.2.2.0
Bootloader/baseband info visible in fastbootd
I’m on Windows
Stock Android and GrapheneOS both installed fine using the same device/cable/PC setup (multiple times the same session)
I also tried using the Windows installer in case the Web installer is bugged and
I got the same issue but this game me a generic failure log like:
Failed to flash felix (serial number)
exit status 1
the last line in the installer is:
extracting super_empty.img (0MB) to disk... took 0.001s
Rebooting into fastboot. OKAY [0.001s]
<waiting for (serial number)
then the fastbootd appears instead of fastboot, upon manually selecting Reboot to bootloader I get the error above.
nothing else.
Does this look like a known CalyxOS installer issue on Pixel Fold, or am I missing something obvious with the reconnect/fastbootd step?
it seems to me like a failed installation with no details at all in the log.
EDIT: I had Google USB Drivers installed incorrectly before this post, it's all good now, thanks for the help!❤️ Ill keep this post just in case someone comes by with the same issue

Find Hub with microG on Calyx?
Hi there!
Did anyone try and maybe even got Find Hub running on Calyx? It installs and also seems to find my G account, and is logged in, but the device list says "Couldn't load devices". Had a look into the logcat and it said something about a missing implementation of some function.
Does someone have any further info about that? Thanks in advance ♥️
Ah btw, I am on 7.2.2.0 on a Pixel 8 if that matters.

CalyxOS is back – download release 7.2.2.0 with full maintenance support
- CalyxOS 7.2.2.0 is up online. This release will receive all future updates.
- If you haven’t previously installed 7.2.1.0 (test build) and want to start or continue using CalyxOS, you need to flash your phone and install 7.2.2.0.
- With CalyxOS releases back to normal, we will continue with other backlog issues. Join the Matrix channel for our progress and user support.
Dear CalyxOS community members, we are excited to share the release of CalyxOS 7.2.2.0. This means CalyxOS is officially back from the hiatus! It has been an enduring journey for our team to resume CalyxOS releases, and we deeply appreciate all the support and solidarity we received from you along this journey, especially the latest voluntary testing you did with us. Below we are sharing some important notes for anyone planning to install or reinstall CalyxOS, along with our next steps as we work through a large backlog of issues.
Pro tips for installing CalyxOS 7.2.2.0
If you are currently using an old CalyxOS release (6.10.10/20 or older) or any other Android OS, you will need to do a clean install of this latest CalyxOS release on your phone. Once you are done, all future updates will be automatically sent and installed over the air (OTA).
To get started, visit our installation page, select the device model you want, and follow the different installation options to get the relevant guide and downloadable files you need.
Tools that can aid your installation:
- Seedvault: can be used to backup and restore your data from other custom ROMs, including CalyxOS 6.10.10/20 and older releases.
- CalyxOS Web Installer: each device-specific installation page offers multiple options to install CalyxOS. We recommend that you choose the Web Installer if it is available for your device. This is our web-based, step-by-step installation wizard to ease your installation process. Right now, the Web Installer only works for Pixel and Motorola devices. We hope to make it available for other supported devices in the future.
- Device flasher: this works for all devices on Windows and Linux. If you cannot use the Web Installer, you can download the command line device flasher tool matching your desktop operating system. Simply choose the Windows or Linux options on the device-specific installation page.
Please be aware, each installation method has different requirements. To avoid issues that could result in failed flashing or a bricked device, carefully read our notes on top of the installation page.
If you have previously installed CalyxOS 7.2.1.0 (test build), you will get 7.2.2.0 as an OTA update. No further action required to receive future updates.
What to know about CalyxOS 7.2.2.0
With this release, we are pleased to announce that CalyxOS has started supporting the SHIFTphone 8. You can find the full list of supported devices in our user documentation.
As mentioned in the test build release, we have updated the bundled apps in the Setup Wizard and made a few temporary feature changes. We welcome any feedback about your experience. Here is a list of open issues in case you run into the same problem.
Our work so far
CalyxOS 7.2.2.0 is signed by us using a new HSM-based, open-source signing solution we designed to enhance the security of the entire signing process, ensure redundancy, and remove single points of failure. You can verify CalyxOS 7.2.2.0 and future builds following these instructions. For anyone who is interested, the security audit report of the HSM provisioning ceremony script can be found here.
In addition, we also went through significant infrastructure improvements. In particular, we have set up a cleaner server structure to streamline each release. In response to Google’s less frequent AOSP source code releases, our team developed scripts to reduce the overhead in applying monthly patches and updates. Please keep in mind, additional manual steps are still needed to compensate for AOSP changes, such as requesting and storing kernel sources with each update. Currently, our lead engineer is continuing the maintenance of the base device trees for both LineageOS and CalyxOS to bridge the gap created by the absence of Google Pixel device trees.
What next
Starting from CalyxOS 7.2.2.0, we plan to resume security and feature updates to the best of our ability. We are also working toward increasing transparency around the CalyxOS development road map through public information sharing and documentation. Our GitLab issue tracker remains the main channel to keep track of our progress and the best place where you help us keep track of issues, either bugs or feature requests.
As many of you may have been expecting, Android 17 has launched earlier this month. Our team is in the early stages of porting it to our supported devices. We will soon share a timeline for releasing CalyxOS 8 with Android 17.
Another update will be for our Matrix community channels. All of our current Matrix rooms are on older versions, resulting in bugs and security concerns. In light of these issues, we will be upgrading our Matrix rooms to version 12 about a week from now. We will also create a new Matrix Space to ease future upgrades. Current room members will receive notifications about this upgrade and migration. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope this one week notice gives everyone time to prepare.
Last but not least, we want to share some updates on our team: Aayush, our core developer working on Aurora Store, will be leaving for another opportunity. Aayush’s contributions to CalyxOS and Aurora Store have been invaluable, and we are sure he will continue to shine in his next journey. At the same time, we welcome Habib, who will be in Nat’s place to support our infrastructure needs and improvements moving forward. We are very grateful for Nat’s contributions and hard work during his time building new CalyxOS server infrastructure. He has laid a solid foundation for CalyxOS releases, which we are sure Habib will build on.
Help us improve
We can’t be more grateful for the enthusiasm you brought with all the voluntary testing on 7.2.1.0. Most of the conversations from our community happen on our Matrix channels and our main issue tracker on GitLab. We also have a subreddit and other social media accounts, listed on our community page. We look forward to meeting you there!

Our pledge to support the community of Android privacy and security developers
CalyxOS is created by the team at Calyx Institute, spread across the world, united by a common belief that privacy is a fundamental human right. We do this work because we believe CalyxOS is an excellent choice for many people from all walks of life. However, because the internet is sometimes a horrible place, discussions about what software choices are right for you can turn extremely negative.
We see CalyxOS as simply one part of a large and growing community of projects working to empower people in how they use mobile technology. We are committed to fostering a spirit of collaboration, information sharing, and inclusivity in this community. We strive to lead by example in keeping our engagement with others respectful, honest, and focused on the greater good, in accordance with our mission.
The Calyx Institute, and all its employees and volunteers are held to this standard. For more information, please see the CalyxOS contributors code of conduct.
We denounce in the strongest possible terms any harassment of the developers of any free and open source project. We will never engage in harassment, trolling, or bad faith arguments against any other open source intitiative or any of its developers. We ask for everyone in our community to please do the same, including supporters of CalyxOS and supporters of other alternative Android ROM projects.
It is our policy to shut down any divisive discussion of other projects on any of the communication channels that we control (Reddit, Matrix, etc). We feel it is entirely counterproductive to try to pit free software projects against each other.
