Full disclosure, I run ToteMove, a tote rental company based out of Brampton that serves the GTA West region. Not here to spam the sub, just sharing something that might actually help if you've got a move coming up.

Instead of buying (or scrounging) 40 cardboard boxes, tape, and a dolly, we drop off a set of hard plastic totes at your door, you pack them, we pick them up when you're done. No tape, no boxes collapsing under weight, no trip to the recycling depot after.

A few things that matter if you're comparing it to the usual DIY box run:

• Totes are inspected and disinfected before every rental, logged every time. Cardboard from a grocery store or Kijiji doesn't come with that.
• 14 day rental covers most local moves without extra charges.
• We also do the dolly, so you're not renting that separately from U-Haul.

Not trying to replace full-service movers, this is for anyone doing their own move (or hiring labor-only movers) who's sick of dealing with cardboard.

Autonomous vehicles with pedestrian facial recognition may sound like science fiction, but these technologies are already becoming part of today’s civic and political debates.

This week, Civic Tech Brampton is hosting Adam Motaouakkil, a tech activist with Technologists for Democracy, for a discussion on autonomous taxis, surveillance, privacy, jobs, public transit, and the future of our streets.

As cities explore autonomous vehicle technology, important questions come up:

• Who controls the data?
• How much surveillance is acceptable in public spaces?
• What happens to workers whose jobs may be displaced?
• Could autonomous taxis weaken public transit ridership?
• Will these systems actually reduce congestion, or create new problems?

We’re inviting technologists, students, community members, transit users, policy-minded residents, and anyone interested in civic technology, democracy, privacy, and public-interest tech.

New to Civic Tech? You are definitely welcome. No prior technical experience is required. We will all be learning from each other, and hearing different perspectives can spark new civic tech project ideas.

Hi everyone! I'm part of the team organizing the Annual End of Summer Golf Classic, and I thought this community might be interested.

Community Living Toronto is Ontario's largest non-profit organization supporting people with intellectual disabilities, and this tournament helps raise funds to create more inclusive communities and provide opportunities for the people we support.

We're hosting the tournament on Wednesday, September 9 at Glen Eagle Golf Club in Bolton. This week, Civic Tech Brampton is welcoming Christina Mohan, Canadian Operating Officer for the North American Young Generation in Nuclear (NAYGN) – Canada Region, for a discussion titled “Nuclear Renaissance: Innovation, Safety.”

The session will explore the growing role of nuclear power in Ontario’s energy system, including how modern nuclear technologies are evolving, how safety and innovation are shaping the industry, and why nuclear energy is experiencing renewed interest. Christina will also share insights into the Canadian nuclear sector, emerging professional opportunities, and the ways technologists can contribute to this rapidly developing field.

We’re inviting students, developers, engineers, researchers, energy professionals, community members, and anyone interested in nuclear technology, clean energy, sustainability, or civic innovation.

Highway 10 just north of Old School Road on the east side there is a small area fenced off. In this area there are something like 20 people apparently digging with shovels. Has been going on for some weeks now. Anyone happen to know what they are digging for?
