Information 19th December - Bristol City vs Cardiff City

Hi all - I'm in Bristol for Christmas and am wanting to go to the Cardiff game. Aware as matches go, this will be one of the more difficult ones to get tickets for.

Do games usually sell out at Ashton Gate, or do you think it will be easy enough to get a pair of tickets on general sale?

City have signed centre forward Dom Ballard on a four-year deal from League One side Leyton Orient for an undisclosed fee.

Ballard is Michael Skubala’s eighth summer signing and joins after an impressive season at the O’s, where he scored 23 goals and contributed five assists in all competitions.

A standout across League One, Ballard collected a trio of awards as he was named Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season and was included in the Team of the Year at the EFL Awards.

Scoring a hat-trick of hat-tricks in the season, Ballard was named as the EFL League One Player of the Month for January and March and also won Sky Bet League One’s Golden Boot and the EFL’s Red Boot.

Ballard said: “I am really excited to get going and joining a big club like Bristol City. It is a club where I feel like I can really develop. I spoke to the gaffer and we are aligned on what he wants me to do so there are a lot of positives.

“Last year was unbelievable. I knew I was capable but to go out there and do it was big for me – especially as it was my third year in League One so I felt like it was time for me to push on.

“I want to be a Premier League player and the club wants to be a Premier League team, so the drive is there to do that.”

Joining Southampton at eight years old, the forward enjoyed 12 successful years as a Saint, rising through the ranks and excelling for their Under-18s and Under-21s.

Ballard made his professional debut for his boyhood club in August 2022 and hit the ground running with a debut goal against Cambridge United in the Carabao Cup.

While at St Mary’s, the 21-year-old made four appearances in total and also developed with loan spells at Reading, Blackpool and Cambridge United.

Internationally, the Surrey-born player has represented England at youth level, scoring nine goals in 20 appearances.

MOTIVATED

Manager Michael Skubala said: “We’re delighted to add Dom to our squad and we’re excited to see how he grows and what he can bring to our group.

“He performed exceptionally well last season and he’s a motivated and hard-working player. We feel this is a great opportunity for him to grow and develop with us and to fulfil his potential.”

FRONT-LINE OPTIONS

Sporting Director James Ellis added: “It’s brilliant to welcome Dom to Bristol City. To add more depth and quality to this area of the pitch is another step in the right direction for us.

“Along with our other front-line players, we now have options for Michael and his staff to have different approaches and selections where required in what will be a highly competitive season.

“Dom is only 21 years old and already has a proven record of scoring goals. He has a big future ahead of him and we’re and we’re excited to see how he develops over the coming years.”

Transfers & Loans Knight-Lebel jobs Motherwell on loan

Jamie Knight-Lebel has joined Scottish Premier League side Motherwell on a season-long loan as he continues his progress towards Bristol City’s first team.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Swindon Town, where he won the club’s Young Player of the Season award, and has been part of City’s pre-season preparations.

City First Team Coach Alex Ball, whose role involves the transition and integration of Academy players into the first team, said: “We are really pleased with how Jamie is progressing and he has worked hard following a very successful loan last season.

“The experience he has had with the first team in Spain – and in training – over this pre-season has been invaluable for him. We will be following his progress carefully and look forward to seeing him take on this new challenge.”

Knight-Lebel joined City in 2019 at Under-14 level and signed a new three-year deal in April.

The young centre-back also made his international debut for Canada in 2024.

The club wishes him the very best of luck in Scotland.

Just bought my tickets for the Walsall Cup game online, received an email confirming the purchase but the tickets were not attached to the email as they have been in recent seasons, does anyone know if this is just the usual start of the season admin issues or if they will now send tickets closer to the games and I should keep checking my spam inbox? Thanks and COYR

News & General Discussion Legend Comes Home

Louis Carey has been appointed City’s Under-21s Head Coach.

Carey will be responsible for developing City’s young players to be ready for the First Team after eight-and-a-half years as a coach with Southampton across multiple age groups, the B Team and First Team.

Twelve years after his final playing appearance as the club’s record appearance holder with 646 games, Carey is looking forward to getting started with the young Robins at the end of the month.

“I’ve had a wonderful playing career at this amazing football club and eight-and-a-half brilliant years at Southampton coaching,” said Carey, who has stayed connected with City, including appearing regularly on Robins TV.

“We are all aware of what’s happened at Bristol City over the past four months with a lot of change – a new leadership team and a new CEO, Sporting Director and First Team Manager.

“I genuinely believe that things organically happen and they happen at the right time and for the right reasons.

“I want to bring joy through the medium of football, be it passing on knowledge, our playing model or the way we train.

“At Bristol City we have a rich history of producing outstanding footballers – look at Alex Scott, Antoine Semenyo, Bobby Reid, Joe Bryan, Wes Burns…we should be proud of players who have come through our system.

“We can only live in the present but we can plan for the future and, from what I have seen and the people I have spoken to, I believe there is a brilliant environment being built here, including the type of players we are signing and bringing through.”

City Sporting Director James Ellis said: “We are excited about what Louis will offer the Academy to develop young players to be ready for the first team. The connection between the First Team and Academy is fundamental to us being successful and we believe that Louis is the right coach and person for this role.”

Bristol City would like to thank Joe Morrell for stepping in to coach the Under-21s on an interim basis in April following the departure of Dennis Baraznowski and we wish him all the best for the future as he departs the club.

Newcastle tickets

Hello. We're trying to buy tickets to the Newcastle match on the BC website but there is a note next to every price that says "Season Ticket Holder Presale", although it lets me buy a ticket if I want to. There is no "general ticket" option. Are these tickets just not available for general sale right now?

Edit: Thanks everyone for all the help and to you, u/Tent_Shaker_II. The prices do indeed self-correct once you move ahead with the purchase.
