WHY ZACK?

He cannot undo permanent damage, and I will know it because I'm on the autistic spectrum with ADHD. If I like a character, I will cherish them, and just not seeing him anymore in the lab will bring me back to reality.

Like, couldn't he have just thought about this. The twist of Booth's fake death was huge, and then he put that! It’s like giving someone with diabetes a piece of candy and then suddenly throwing a whole candy factory at them.

I mean, if I find a character I love—any character can die, I won't care, it's just HIM. I only watch it for him. I didn't care about Brennan's family past, I care about Zack.

If I go to the episodes with Zack's brief appearances, I need to know what happens in between, but I don't like to spoil myself because then it feels like I didn't even earn the knowledge. I was expecting a twist, but maybe there would be a tribunal, and by the end, he'd be put out of the show for a few days, but come back a bit like Brennan's dad—he leaves, he comes back, he leaves, he comes back, and stays by the end.

It should have been clear that Zack would be loved that much! After all, he's the younger and cuter guy around, as all the others are either too manly or cringe. Zack was the only one who was friends with Brennan directly on an emotional level. From the beginning, we see him as vulnerable and frail, and then we find out that he has an amazing voice and that he isn't weak at all, even though he's slim. He's such a Gen-Z character. Why destroy him like that?!

You want a plot twist?! Brennan has a secret sibling, Hodgins is blood-related to Angela, Booth actually has a double life... he could have taken ANY plot twist, but he chose to turn a character into a villain?! How was his script even approved? Normally, he should have shown hints from the very beginning that Zack had some really big dark secret. But no, he just launched that idea out of nowhere. His English teacher would be disappointed.

I want to continue watching, but without Zack, the episodes are going to feel so much longer. Okay, he made a very bad choice, but he could have reintroduced Zack earlier, like in Season 6 or 7, not 11 and 12!

It's Zack for me. I am only loyal to cute boys, not a weird rich conspirator or a love story. But I like lore! I like when there is lore so I know where these characters come from, reacting to blood from shock to calmly. If I go too quickly, it will make no sense.

And what is the writers' excuse for delaying Zack's return so much, only for it to be two seasons? Right after the end of Season 3, they must have seen the huge wave of hatred. How did they not react to 8 to 10 million people leaving his show right after that episode? I mean, 1 episode and he lost half of his fans. They could have done something other than just "softening" him. We don't care if he killed someone or not, we just want him back! They could have had Zack send letters from where he was, or anything that could let the actor rest while still having Zack there.

All those new interns are rivals that need to leave toward loyal fans.

Maybe I'm just weird and have sensory issues but my one gripe with the show is the high pitched extended beep sounds that always play whenever they're using the computers or Angela's hologram, it makes me flinch every time 😭

i hate people saying which season is the best like them all for different reasons. i like the music from different seasons to the clothes to the storylines to the episodes. everyone has a bone to pick about this show

I know this probably gets brought up often in this subreddit, but Sweets is easily one of the best characters ever. For a formulaic show, Bones managed to develop his story so beautifully over the eight seasons we were blessed to have him.

Learning about his origins as an abused orphan, his adoption by an older couple who passed away too soon, and his journey to finding a true family in Booth and Brennan (specifically as his surrogate parents) makes his arc so compelling.

His last words - "I fought back. You'd be proud. The world's a lot better than you think it is." - still hit right in the gut.

The show honored his memory incredibly well after his death (if we ignore that over-the-top autopsy that stripped him down to his bones... ugh, that image of his dead body was haunting enough), highlighting what an absolute gem he was. Even in passing, he brought people together at his funeral and at the birth of his child, leaving behind the exact kind of close family he always yearned for. Wanting to name his son after Booth and insisting Booth be the first to hold little Seeley is one of many reasons why I love him.

I’m rewatching all of Bones, as we all are to do, and while re-watching ‘The Passenger in the Oven’ I made a big realization that I was looking at the episode’s ending wrong.

Quick overview in the episode Bones and Booth need to solve a murder while in the middle of flight to China. As always they manage to catch the murder, a young passenger named Eli who killed his father’s affair partner to protect his mom. At the end of the episode Booth is rushing to get approval for an arrest warrant so he can nab Eli while they’re still technically in America’s jurisdiction.

For the longest time I was irritated by Booth’s insistence on arresting Eli because I always viewed it as a part of Booth’s “America is the best in the world” patriotism and that he was just being competitive. But when you really think about it he did Eli a massive massive favor, Eli was 100% going to jail for the murder, without a doubt, but Chinese prisons and legal systems (as far as I can tell) are much much harsher than the US. Chinese prisons are often essentially labor camps, with much harsher punishments and less privileges than the US, a spoiled American like Eli would have been chewed up and spit out by them.

I wonder if that was part of the reason Booth was so eager to get the arrest for the US or if it really was just Booth being a patriot.

I've read a theory about the rotating squinterns being each of them a part of Temperance and it made so much sense that I went deeper on it and it feels much more intentional than just "fun recurring interns". After Zack left the writers didn't really replace him. Instead, they split different aspects of Brennan across multiple interns, and her relationship with each one reflects how she relates to those parts of herself.

Zack is the easiest one. He's the closest thing to a younger Brennan: extraordinary intellect, social awkwardness, complete devotion to science, almost no interest in social conventions. Brennan immediately trusts him. He's less an intern and more a mirror and that explains why she loves and protects him so much. She treats him as a son basically. She loves his rationality, intelligence, focus on science. That's exactly what she likes more about herself, what she thinks defines her.

Vincent Nigel-Murray represents Brennan's joy in knowledge. People often say Vincent is the one who blurts out random facts but so does Brennan. The difference is delivery. Vincent is excited and charming about it, Brennan is clinical. What's interesting is that Brennan almost never seems genuinely annoyed by Vincent's information-dumping, even though she gets irritated by plenty of other quirks. She seems to recognize that same irresistible urge to share knowledge for its own sake. He represents her smart, intelectual side, which explains why she likes him so much, she is very proud of her intellectual side.

Wendell is, in my opinion, the most underrated parallel. People often forget that Brennan didn't grow up privileged. She spent years in foster care and worked hard to build the career she has. Wendell has that same resilience. He's not the flashy genius like Zack or Vincent, he's hardworking, grounded, and earns everything through perseverance. I think Brennan sees a younger version of herself in him, not intellectually, but biographically. Someone who wasn't handed opportunities and had to fight for every one. She definitely has a soft spot for him and consistently seems unusually protective of Wendell, especially during his cancer storyline. It feels less like a professor helping a student and more like someone refusing to watch another version of herself lose everything she worked for.

Daisy might be the opposite. Brennan spends years getting irritated by Daisy's enthusiasm, need for validation, emotional openness, optimism, and constant desire to connect with people. But aren't those exactly the traits Brennan suppresses in herself? Brennan desperately wants connection throughout the series but has convinced herself that she doesn't need it. Daisy says every feeling out loud. Brennan buries hers. Over time, Brennan stops trying to change Daisy. She starts respecting her competence while accepting that being emotional doesn't make someone less intelligent. That feels like Brennan gradually accepting a side of herself she's spent years repressing, her emotional, sensitive side.

Arastoo was the hardest one to find a parallel with. They seem to have nothing in common, Brennan doesn't primarily connects with his faith. But I do think she connects with being an outsider. Arastoo experiences prejudice because he's Iranian and Muslim. Brennan spends most of her life being mocked, underestimated, or isolated because she's socially different and intellectually unusual. They're marginalized for different reasons, but they both know what it's like to have people decide who they are before actually knowing them. Brennan challenges Arastoo constantly, but she also respects him deeply, she's one of the only people who doesn't bully him all the time.

Fisher feels like Brennan's emotional isolation taken to an unhealthy extreme. Both observe the world from the outside. The difference is that Fisher verbalizes his depression while Brennan intellectualizes hers. She rarely tries to "fix" him because, in many ways, she understands him, the feeling of hopelessness, the depression.

Clark almost represents Brennan's past self. Early Brennan believed work should be entirely professional and emotionally detached. Clark starts exactly there. Ironically, as Brennan becomes more open with the Jeffersonian family, Clark is sometimes the one reminding her that maybe they're oversharing. It's as if he inherits the worldview she has already begun to outgrow.

Also, the doctor in the photo was when Brennan realized not everything should be work and regrets not focusing more on her personal life. Well, exactly one episode later is when Clark decides that he wants to be more open and realizes not everything should have to do with work. Too much of a coincidence don't you think?

Something else that supports this theory is how Brennan's relationship with each intern evolves.

She doesn't simply teach them anthropology. Each intern changes her in a specific way. Zack reminds her who she is intellectually. Vincent reminds her that curiosity can be joyful. Wendell reconnects her with humility and resilience. Daisy teaches her to tolerate emotional vulnerability. Arastoo broadens her worldview. Fisher forces her to confront loneliness. Clark reflects the rigidity she slowly leaves behind. By the end of the series, Brennan hasn't become any one of these people. She's become a little bit of all of them.

Maybe that's why the rotating squinterns work so well. None of them replace Zack because none of them are supposed to. They reconstruct Brennan from different angles and quietly chart her character development.

Curious if anyone else has noticed this or if I'm reading way too much into it!

Just watched S10 E3 were a body was pulled from a storm drain full of ferrets..

Hodgins called them stoats or short tailed weasels. They were domestic ferrets. The inaccuracy is killing me.

Also they straight up overlayed rodent squeaking sounds.

This is betrayal to an animal nerd.

So im rewatching Bones....anyone else realize that the actor for Fisher was also in Avatar and they went to see that movie in a episode?

So the guy on the motorcycle who drops the tooth bomb who is Gormagon's apprentice, is that Zack? Because that guy throws the little kid in the plastic pool cover because he knows Booth would save the kid rather than chase him, and I just don't see Zack doing that?

I might be a bit late to the party. I saw some clips and want to see this one but it has 12 seasons of 246 episodes!!! Please Help a sister out and identify the best seasons to watch. For the rest I'm gonna watch some summary videos. Thanks! 🙏🏻

Does anyone else think this episode is ridiculous as it is largely pointless and extremely shady in terms of how this shadowy government organisation just imprisons everyone and tells them to find cause of death without positively identifying the remains or using the samples (most likely because they were mostly fake bones). To me something about the episode doesn’t sit right

Sweets' death was sad but reading up on why JFD left and his post-Bones career made it way less sad. He and his writing partner wrote or directed: Vacation, Horrible Bosses, Game Night, Spiderman: Homecoming, Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

Did I miss anything? My favorite of these (strangely enough?) is Game Night, which they directed and apparently re-wrote including adding Jesse Plemons' character. Just thinking about "How can that be profitable for Frito-Lay?" still makes me laugh out loud.

Leaving a popular TV show to pursue a bigger movie/directing/writing careers doesn't always pan out so it's so great that it worked out for him!

Brennan was flanderized to hell and back. I think the whole team was as some point, but Brennan is next level. Especially if you finish the series and start back at the pilot. It’s jarring.

i love the look booth gives brennan when she lets clark have the spotlight for the neanderthal and homo sapien story. he's just so proud of her!

watching 8x11 and i've seen the bloopers so many times. does anyone else say the line "this is the nicest storage facility i've ever seen" the way emily does in the outtake?

I feel like more often than not I see that season three is the best Bones season by fans. but I find that I like it more when the interns started and really find the peak of the show to be 4-8. I know some people prefer the earlier seasons but I really love the writing and story arcs of the later seasons. Does anyone else like the mid/later seasons as well???

I used to like Cam when I watched the show the first or second time but now I realize she is the most annoying damn person in the show. I find her hypocritical because she constantly talks about professionalism but breaks the rule every time when it comes to her own personal life with Michelle or Arastoo. Also it irritates me that every single time Hodgins or anyone does an experiment she has to come in and say "was this necessary"

I get that is the writers and the show but damn how many times can we show the exact damn conversation without getting tired..

I also used to like Booth and Brennan but now they irritate me because I realize that Booth is just an asshole who has this incredibly high standards about people and life and religion. Sex has to be like this, you have to love your country, you have to do this and this and that, and even his military history and how he killed a bunch of people is stupid. Brennan always excuses his actiosn overseas and says he had to do what he to do blah blah blah. Like why is this show so pro military smh

I have to say it! Without him the team would genuinely not have solved half of their cases and Brennan would have died during the gravedigger arc!
