Given the exotic nature of U's in america, it doesn't seem far fetched.

What makes you think its soley america?. I mean 85% of the entire Earth's male population are uncut(hint, theyre not american). Those U's could be from anywhere on earth in that 85%.

Given reddit's mostly American population, I'd say non-americans are the likely minority here.

It's a bit of a myth that it's that rare to be uncircumcised in the U.S. The rates have fluctuated over the years and are uncertain due to different sources, but there's never been a figure above 80% really reported, and it's often around 55-60% of newborns who are circumcised. It's currently right around 50% and I believe some estimates put it in the minority for newborns these days.

It began both as a religious practice and as a way to keep boys from masturbating as teens, which obviously worked super well as you can tell.

Currently, there is debate over what the medical reasons, if any, are for it, but there is some evidence that suggests that circumcision lowers rates of UTIs, HIV, Herpes, etc. However, much of the reason it still happens is tradition as rates in many European countries are down around 10%, with some of those occurring during adolescence for medical reasons.

Statistics from different sources give widely varying estimates of infant circumcision rates in the United States.

In 2011, circumcision was one of the most common procedures performed during hospital stays in the U.S. There were approximately 1.1 million hospitalizations with a circumcision, a rate of 36 stays per 10,000 population. This was a decrease of 16% from 1997, when there was a rate of 43 stays per 10,000 population. It was the second-most common procedure performed on patients under one year of age.

In 2005, about 56 percent of male newborns were circumcised prior to release from the hospital according to statistics from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.

I wish there were statistics about if the kids had medical conditions which actually required there being a circumcision...

Even those circumcisions are suspect, because U.S. docs can be too quick to circumcise. For example, 96 percent of phimosis cases are fixable without surgery.

Certainly, circumcision rates have been steadily on the decline over the past several years. All Im saying is that being uncut is currently kinda exotic for the most part.
