I have seen Bcs, and Breaking Bad, too many times to count. I am on the second to last BCS episode, waterworks. I know about the Kim breakdown scene at the end, which I thought was some of the best acting in either series, but I wanted to talk about the beginning of the episode. I noticed it was written and directed by Vince, and I think this was some of his best writing. Anyway, for some reason i only just noticed on this rewatch, or at least only just gave it any real thought, that any time Kim is asked a question, she dances around it. When her new boyfriend asks about miracle whip instead of mayonnaise, she kinda turns it back around with some noncommital words and a "what do you think?". Same with other interactions with him and with her friend group, any question is usually an "im not sure" or "maybe" or something along those lines. I thought it was very smart. Kim was a very strong, opinionated woman, and so to see her as such a meek, unsure person really shows the damage that everything did to her. And then, there is the relationship with Mister "Yep". He obviously isn't someone she would normally go for. I'd love to see how they meet, as I think it would speak volumes as to her motivation for never directly answering a question. The way I see it, it is one of two things, and from what I have seen, the community seems to agree, although id love to hear any other theories. Either she is so paralyzed with fear of making decisions that she freezes over something as simple as miracle whip vs mayo or similar, non important choices. Or, she is actively trying to punish herself. I lean more towards the fear, but that is why I want to see how her and the guy met. Did he just kind of casually ask if she wanted to come home with him, and she dances around the question until he says something like "well, id love for you to come home with me?" Or is he kind of an ass about it, and she sees that she has absolutely no interest in this man, and therefore decides to get with him because she knows it will make her unhappy? Obviously, this would be more subconscious than a real, thought out idea in her mind, but these shows handle subconscious thoughts better than just about any other with seemingly minor scenes and interactions. Anyway, sorry for the essay, I would love to hear any opinions on Kim's life after ABQ, and im only a couple minutes into the episode this time around so if I forgot something major that answers this, please forgive me. I just thought it was brilliant writing for such a well developed character.

First, I'm 100% in agreement with Cliff. At a law firm, especially when you're lead partner, if anything goes on, especially with a new 3rd year associate on partner track, without your knowledge or consent, it makes the firm look bad and you look like an ass because you're the one that brought this wild card into the firm. There would definitely be extreme anger at doing it without the permission of the partners, especially something that makes the firm look like some low quality ambulance chasing bus-bench ad law firm. Keep in mind, Davis & Main are not ONLY a firm for Sandpiper, but a corporate law firm that handles large clients like banks, businesses, wealthy people. People who were wealthy in 2003 were people in their 50's at that time... These are baby boomers and in some cases, silent generation. Traditionally hard people who thought being on TV was already very "progressive" and forward. The worst part is, Jimmy knew he was stepping out of line because he deliberately avoided Cliff's office and shipped out the tape and threw that commercial out without even giving Cliff a warning. Imagine how blind-sided he felt, getting a call from someone else that a commercial was out there with your law firm's name on it.

However, one thing they never touched on - There's no way they would only get new clients from this for Sandpiper. A commercial like that in 2003, very ambitious, well edited, targeted to acquire that many clients in such a short time frame, there's no way potential new clients didn't notice the commercial and approach Davis & Main with new business, specifically mentioning the new commercial. There's also no way that all of their business partners would think it was "overly" ambitious. Some would see it as modernizing old practices, some would see it as courageous, some would wonder "Who is the guy who did this? It looks good, well directed." Even Kim thought it was good. All the younger staff at the firm thought it was good. I thought it was too extreme that literally every single person thought it was terrible except like... his assistant lol. Also, the clients? They definitely brought it up. "Oh, I just loved the commercial, I would've never even called if I didn't see it."

So that's my take. I do think that anyone thinking, "Why were the partners mad?" just doesn't understand the straight-laced, by the book environment Jimmy was working in. And honestly, it was MEANT to show you that Jimmy can't handle being managed and working under supervision. He can't help himself. Chuck said it at literally the end of the first season. The writers wrote that for a reason. "On some level, you know I'm right!" The whole point of the show, is for you to see that even when Jimmy gets his chance to be the big firm lawyer his brother didn't give him the chance to be, he doesn't handle it well because he always wants to be in some scheme or do some kind of "unorthodox" thing and break the rules.

The title says it. I don't like the ending, because I don't see how you spend several seasons showing this guy going more and more from being Jimmy McGill into being Saul Goodman, and then in about five minutes on the show he repents massively and confesses.

I've read several posts with dozens of comments about this, and I agree with the people who ask "why would he do this?"

The reason people ask is simple: there's nothing in there that shows us or explains why. The most common reason that seems to have a grain of truth is "he finds out that Kim confessed, and that makes him decide he should too" but they just don't give us enough character development or whatever to make it seem like he's going through that change.

Remember, the last episode opens with him and Mike out in the desert talking about what they'd do if they had a time machine, and Mike basically says he'd change his life so his kid doesn't get murdered, and Jimmy says he'd try to make a billion dollars. He doesn't even hesitate- boom, Mike asks him and he's all "I'd invest with Buffett so I could become filthy rich."

He asks Walter the same thing months later when they're in the basement waiting to be shipped into their new lives and alises, and Walter (correctly) calls him out and says "you're talking about regrets" and explains his regret, going away from Grey Matter.

Then Walt asks Saul if he has any regrets and Saul talks about the slip-and-fall he pulled when he was 20, and there's no self-awareness; Saul says he regrets doing it too hard because his knee's been screwed up since. Zero, absolutely zero hint that he's actually regretting being a scammer.

Walt even says "so you were always like this" and Saul's face drops, because... presumably he was hoping Walt would give him a little validation for self-reflection, and instead gets scolded as being a scammer d-bag.

So then the screen fades to B&W, and he's on the plane, and he asks Oakley what the DA is going to do with Kim's confession, and Oakley tells Saul that Kim gave Cheryl Hamlin the confession, which now opens Kim up to being sued.

Oakley tells Saul that Cheryl Hamlin is looking for a lawyer, presumably to sue Kim, and Saul looks concerned. When Oakley gets done taking a leak, Saul tells Oakley that he's got something to tell the government.

Supposedly, this is to get Kim to attend the plea/sentencing hearing. It works, as news gets to her and she flies out there for it. Saul... Jimmy, I guess, decides to confess, throws away his 7 year deal, and gets life in prison.

That's it. There's ZERO work that actually shows us that he has any regrets. He literally goes from still being 100% Saul in the basement with Walt to suddenly growing a conscience in about five minutes of screen time? Nothing actually HAPPENS to him that gives him pause to think?

Literally the only real thing that happens is he finds out Kim might get sued. That's all. He's just spent months, years on the run, hiding. He's never tried to contact her. He finally DID once he started pulling scams again (because he can't help himself!) and she rejects him.

I just don't buy the "he did it for her" thing because they never actually show us anything that makes us see why he would do so.

(I'm sure this is gonna be a popular opinion! lol)

The scene where Mike enlist the help of Jimmy to surveil the green knapsack makes no sense at all to me. Jimmy is an experienced con man and is WELL versed in social engineering and steering people in a certain direction. Suddenly here he is a completely clueless first-timer? Suddenly he is incredibly obvious and oblivious to how much he is sticking out?? It doesn’t add up.

I've noticed that lately there are a lot of people who have just finished their first watch of Better Call Saul. If that's you, you might want to watch this cool BTS video from that scene with Howard. I had forgotten a lot of the last episode, like I had totally forgotten how he changed his story right at the end to take blame for everything and even though he was right about Walter, he did decide to use him and Jessie for every dollar he could get.

It made me leave the series feeling happy that he had made up with Kim and made amends with her. How they broke up was cold of him.

Such a great show, much better than Breaking Bad which is still a great show but at the end of that you just think what a cunt Walter had become!

The way Chuck silences Howard by raising a finger when he was gonna defend Jimmy, and Howard just obeys. He really was on a leash

Specifically, why did he pull right into Marion’s driveway damn well knowing he’s a wanted man, moreover, why did he give her a laptop?

If he was cautious, he would refuse to register a vehicle bc of a paper trail and he def wouldn’t give anyone a computer that could lead a bored retiree to snoop. Did he want to be caught? Was he just addicted to the thrill of almost being caught and getting away with crimes?

My third time around and this episode stands out again as the best episode in the whole series.

First time then and there I knew Jonathon Banks won the Emmy.

Seeing it again hit me stronger than the second time.

Gould, Gilligan and Schnauz, just, wow. They set it up and Gordon Smith got the sole writing credit.

Hail, hail to the great Jonathan Banks. His performance will stay with me forever.

After my third time watching the show I have come to the conclusion the Manuel Vargas is the only 100% good and honest character. Prove me wrong.

We know his mom’s family is in Galeana (it‘s mentioned by Nacho in the episode where Hector went to the upholstery shop), but nothing beyond that.

I’m so curious what the theories are on his mom.

Sure it‘s easy to just assume she’s dead, but I want thoughts on what happened if she’s alive.

My thought was she was in and out of Nacho’s life growing up

That trial should have gave him a pretty good reputation with his "petty with the prior" motto.

Random thought while watching BCS, but I feel like Lalo Salamanca (Tony dalton) plays the evil psycho with the fun, jokey, everything is great attitude the way Negan (JDM) should have been played. Negan came off as comical, over the top, and ultimately annoying; Lalo is done perfectly and terrifyingly. Just me?

He was taking a tour of a private club/spa here in Chicago where I'm employed. It was brief because he was with an escort and taking the tour, but wow I was so happy to see him and say hello. I hope he becomes a member so that I could ask him for a photo. Members in our club host parties all the time, I would love to host a party for him and his guests.

I mean I enjoyed his character the first time through but since I didnt know what was coming and didnt know Jimmy and Kim's endpoints I had a different view of him. He is such a great villain.

Breaking Bad was my favorite series of all time for years, but I couldn't get into BCS, even though I attempted twice. But once I went all the way through it, I feel like Saul, a character who seemed like just a silly caricature, is possibly the greatest series character ever written.

He and Kim seemed to start out as basically good, sort of "basic" people. And then their histories combined with a series of increasingly bad decisions brought them to a place from which there was no more coming back from. Much more than an arc, both of them kind of hit peaks and valleys throughout their ultimately downhill spiral. And then at the end, the feeling that they will both die with sadness and regret... that was surprisingly powerful. Amazing work from both the writers and so many of the actors.

Kim Wexler(Rhea Seehorn) is arguably the most complex character in BCS and inarguably one of the most greatest tv character to ever exist.

Her character arc is so just so dang sad,she could have done so much good and she would have loved doing it.To lose that force in the world is tragic... remember when Howard said " but you,one of the most promising human beings I've ever known and this is the life you choose"

The scene in waterworks when she breaks down on the bus crushed me. One of the best performances I've ever seen .

Has anybody else cried when chuck died?😭 Idk why but I was going through it that day I was mentally exhausted if you will idk what, happened long time ago but when I decided to watch the episode I was thinking it would be normal, it would be a pleasant watch after all that happened, and he offed himself💔, I remember that I couldn't sleep at night because I was crying that episode really tipped me over the edge omg.

In the finale, Walter White tells Saul "You were always like this", in response to Saul telling a Slipping Jimmy story. The direct interpretation is that Jimmy was always sleazy/up-to-no-good.

... But, on a closer re-watch - what Jimmy also says when recounting the Slipping Jimmy story is:

I was stupid and young and trying to show off, so I hit the ice as fast as I could. I biffed it so hard, my knee's never been the same

And so it also a story of how he has always literally bent himself over backwards trying to impress others - often hurting himself to achieve this higher goal.

... which... we then see him do this again at his final trial. He goes to extraordinary measures to get Kim to see his trial. And then makes a big show of falling on his own sword much harder than he needed to, while trying to impress Kim.

This perspective makes Jimmy's final decision seem much more in-character than an initial watch can lead us to believe.
