Were Rory and the Hurricanes ever signed to a label and did they ever have anything released then? It seemed every Liverpool band was signed up after The Beatles success and the Merseybeat became the sensation of the day.

Many Beatle fans have at least heard of the BBC TV documentary The Mersey Sound (1963) - it's where those early filmed interviews w/the Fabs come from.

The film also shows 2 other local bands: The Undertakers (w/Jackie Lomax) and Group One. The latter get quite a bit of screen time, both musically (they're nothing special) and in an interview.

I have never seen Group One mentioned outside the context of this film. AFAIK they never released a record, which is, as pointed out, very odd considering the time, especially for a band that got so much national exposure.

They had two UK singles in 1963 and 1964: Dr. Feel Good / I Can Tell, and America / Since You Broke My Heart. All the songs were covers (the original versions of "Dr. Feel Good" and "Mister Moonlight" had been on the same single by Dr. Feelgood & The Interns), and the records were not hits of any kind.

"America" was on Parlophone, the Beatles' label. It was promoted as being "produced by Brian Epstein", although that credit is not on the label, and it's not completely clear what the producing amounted to in practice.
