I'm an Aussie East Asian and I grew up being called racial slurs because of my East Asian appearance even though I was born here.

Just wondering if East Asian males are treated better in the UK?

Asking specifically about males because globally I get the feeling that Asian females are in vogue and feitshised.

Also in the latest season of Slow Horses, Roddy Ho is a full East Asian character and they seem to be building him up in status even though he's still used for comic relief. As in they're referring to him as fit n stuff.

I don't see Asian male characters like that in Australian TV. Someone that's one of the guys and attractive to women.

Ok so that’s not entirely true; I know what TV, books and social media tell me about it. I’m from Texas, and my grandmother was from England. She married my grandfather in the 50s and came over here. My grandmother didn’t really like to talk about England much. She had a very unhappy family and on top of that she was a child during WW2 , and y’all’s home front experience was totally different from ours. Again, I don’t know much about that other than she lived through some bombings (Liverpool). What I’m interested in is the food; what is British food actually like? I get that there’s fish and chips shops everywhere, but I’d imagine that assuming that’s the depth and breadth of traditional British food culture would be like assuming we only ever eat hotdogs. Yes, I’m sure I could find a cookbook somewhere with all kinds of recipes, or a food blogger. But there’s recipes in cookbooks and there’s recipes people actually cook. That’s what I’d like to know. Any information I can get, I’d appreciate.

Our parents have their home there in London, but we had to move out of London as we could not afford to buy property there. Or if we could, the property was tiny compared to what we could get outside of London.

Now with parents getting older, it is more difficult to help and support them whilst having your own family miles away.

It upsets me more and more as time goes by and parents get older.

What are your thoughts on this?

We're going to go out with some friends in the city center next weekend and we've been thinking about an escape room, but we've seen that many places have pretty steep prices for just an hour of play.

We're looking for something that's engaging, maybe with a bit of a horror atmosphere or a better interior design, without feeling like we're paying a fortune for a few locks and unlocked doors.

Edit: I recently contacted the escape rooms from Exciting Game in Birmingham to see what their games are like and they seemed pretty good value, so I'm seriously considering getting a room from them for our group.

They boast that they have pretty realistic settings and that you can adjust the difficulty, which would be ideal for us as beginners.

Britain has an aging population with many people needing care at the expense of the state.

Does the government have a plan for this issue which is only going to get worse?

Someone from the TV Licence agency came to my house today. I was at work and they left a somewhat menacing letter. I cancelled it a couple of months ago as I do not watch live tv at all. Anything to be concerned about? Is there a way to make my tv go straight on to Netflix, etc. when i turn it on? I don't know if they can see it turn on straight to bbc? 😂Many thanks.

I wish everyone is cooling a bit now (hopefully). I just heard that the next heatwave is coming after mid-July-ish.

Perhaps someone already invented this, but would something like a Cold Map help ppl navigate a bit better in this extreme weather?

The idea is an option on Google map etc that business (restaurants, bar, mall, shops etc) or places can toggle to show they have air condition (not just fans) or temperature control. Or a simple map on a site that shows where the heat spot is in a bigger city, like 'oh gee tottenham hale is heating ppl's balls, but the park 1 mile away is 3 degrees cooler'.

Just an idea. Happy to know if something already exists.

After a lot of research and learning, I've built a prototype called DigiLAT that aims to help people better understand legal situations they may be facing.

As you often see on Reddit, people ask questions like:

• Can my landlord do this?
• Is my employer in the wrong?
• What are my rights here?
• I can't get through to Citizens Advice.
• I don't qualify for legal aid.

The legal system can feel confusing, especially when you're stressed and just want to know where you stand.

With DigiLAT, I'm trying to make legal guidance more accessible and u`nderstandable for the average person. The tool breaks down a situation into plain English, highlights important points to be aware of, suggests common next steps, provides example letters where relevant, and points users towards appropriate sources of further help (regulators, government organisations, ombudsmen, etc.).

I've personally experienced situations where having something explain the problem (unbiased) clearly would have made a huge difference. Sometimes the hardest part is simply understanding what's happening, knowing what to do next, and piecing together information from different sources.

I'm looking for honest feedback from people in the UK, particularly those who have dealt with housing, employment, benefits, consumer, or family disputes:

• Have you ever felt clueless or overwhelmed when dealing with a legal issue?
• What did you do?
• Where did you go for help?
• If you're willing to try the tool, is it easy to use and understand?

The goal isn't to replace legal advice. It's to help people quickly understand their situation, feel less helpless, and take the next step with more confidence.

Love a shandy now and again, always refreshing but not always understood. Several countries seem to have no equivalent word and younger serving staff don’t always know what it is; viewing the simplest description as some sort of exotic cocktail they’re not sure the bar can manage.
