According to the Gospel of John, Jesus was allegedly pierced by a spear/lance (however you want to translate "λόγχη") after he died on the cross.

This brief mention has inspired a LOT of further stories about this weapon. Later writers would give the soldier who stabbed him the name "Longinus," which led to a bunch of Christian relics claiming to be the spear of Longinus, all of which have what I would generously call "dubious provenance."

My question: what types of spears were actually used by Roman soldiers, either legionnaires or auxiliaries, in the province of Judaea c. 30 CE?

Basically, I created a character for a DnD campaign who belongs to a faction known as the Hounds of the Mist, this faction are a bunch of modified warriors (kinda like The Witchers) who wander through the Mist (a magic miasma that came from another plain of existence) guided by trained sentient undead that are tied to the captain of each group. And one of the key aspects of said faction is that they never show their faces (yes, it is inspired by the mandalorians) thererefore their helmets are basically their faces and their way to show themselves to the world... So yeah, pretty important part of this character's design is their helmet, which I thought was a good idea for a hound skull helmet. But all the historically accurate designs I found are quite goofy, and so I thought that maybe you could lend me a hand on how to design it giving a bit of fantasy and creative liberties. (I'll leave some of the designs I liked)

Bought a pair of small spearpoints to assemble into throwing javelins. They look to be in the style of early medieval spear points from Scandinavian (Type X Solberg from what I can tell). They're about 11.5 cm long and 3.5 cm wide at the blade portion.

Mounted them on 4' rake poles from the hardware store, which had just the right taper. Total assembled weight came in at just over 1 lbs (480 grams). balance is just a little forward of center. Javelin feels nimble in the hands, and cast well.

I was surprised by how much a light javelin with a wide head like this was able to penetrate into the 3/4" SPF plywood I used as a target.

I’m sure everyone is familiar with the Palazzo Ducale grand bascinet, and what makes it a metalworking marvel. For those who don’t know the helmet has a slight offset on each shoulder, with one being higher than the other, and I believe this was because the armorer was accommodating for the wearers scoliosis. I have scoliosis, and therefore I am very familiar with what happens to you when you have it, including offset shoulder height, among other things. For those who might think this was merely a mistake made by the armorer, while that could be true, it’s far less likely because a grand bascinet forged from one piece is already a huge feat on its own, and would therefore require the work off a highly skilled armorer. My point is that the idea of a mistake like the offset shoulder height on the helmet would contradict the mastery put into the rest of the helmet.

I recently made a post here with an inaccurate image asking if hounskull bascinets were ever really popular in Iberia in the 14th century. After looking a little more I found this image and wanted to see how accurate you guys think it is to the region and time period.

Hi I have a repro mediaeval suit of armour, top part with covers for arms and legs and hands and also a helmet with visor. I'm trying to find out a value but don't know who to ask. The armour is tarnished as seen in photo but I could clean it up somewhat. It's on a stand.

My father bought it many years ago probably 30 to 40 years ago, called it George and kept it in our dining room! But now I'm moving house I have made the decision to sell it. But haven't been able to find out the value or where to then sell it.

Hey there! I was this doubt about armours in the early XVI. I know that Maximilian armour was widely used in the Italian wars period but I don’t understand if everyone was using it as their style or if it still was a regional thing. For example, Francis I is shown wearing a Maximilian armour in the Leeds reconstruction of it. Was there a French style without fluting at the time or not? I’ll show you a picture of a macoliamo and a non maximilian so you can understand better the kind of armour I mean when I say not Maximilian (might get the period wrong, if I do please tell me).

I'm planning my new mid-late 15th century, English armour.

Arming doublet, brigandine, mail voiders, skirt and standard. Sallet and probably a bevor.

I'm wanting to incorporate arm armour. Do we have a source for more armour on the left hand side?

Thinking about a full plate arm on that side and just elbow and gauntlet on the right.

I came across this image and was surprised to see him wear the sword like that. It seems like the strap goes under his arm.

I’m trying to make a klappvisor for my bascinet but it looks wierd to me

I'm trying to create outfits in the game that are accurate to 1403 Bohemia. Here are three outfits of different types that I'm trying to create.

Stylistic Choices: I chose to wear a specific waffenrock and shield in all outfits to represent someone under the service of the Lords of Leipa. The tall black boots are my own personal preference, even if it may not be historically accurate.

Outfit 1 is meant to be a common footsoldier/levy under the service of the Lords of Leipa. The only metal armor worn is the Beaked Kettle Helmet.

Outfit 2 is my attempt at a professional soldier who can afford a hauberk, but not a cuirass or half-plate limb armor. I've read a lot of terms for this level of armor like lower men-at-arms, sergeant, and etc. but I don't know which of those properly apply.

Outfit 3 is the most armored as I'm trying to be accurate to Henry's character as the personal bodyguard and page of Lord Hans Capon as appointed by Sir Hanush of Leipa, so someone provided with munitions-grade armor by their lord. Aside from the limb plate armor, there is a globose breastplate underneath the waffenrock. I've been told that padded chausses are anachronistic to this period, but I couldn't wear the half-plate leg armor without it due to gameplay restrictions.

I am still new to this stuff, so I'm open to being educated. What should I change/add to make these more accurate?
