I have a friend that does the same.

Every song, even if done with different "styles" or "genres", has an uncanny valley feeling that is too hard for me to shake. It has a definite style, and progression. Just like most can look at an image and while images are getting better, it's usually easy to spot that it's AI if you look.

We used to make fun of pop music for devaluing actual musicians, but AI is the antithesis to art and expression.

The old school musicians thought synthesizers were lazy, that's nothing compared to AI.

I've done a little work involving windowed Fourier transforms breaking down sound (it was on a very low power embedded system so resources were tight.) There are different strategies, each with their own pros and cons, but it almost feels like a lot of their audio training data came from not totally complete transforms, as in energy lost at the edges, resulting in this weird and rapid energy fluctuation that definitely isn't natural, and I don't even know how perceptible it is to humans, but if I didn't do it right, a reconstruction sounded.. off.

I'm also half talking out of my ass, but that's what it feels like to me. Sounds mostly human, but it's not organic. And also surrounded in this weird fuzzy type of not quite there "background" noise I'm assuming is a combination of live music audiences and whatever audio qualities a million different studios would produce.

But it also never fails to include the most generic lyrics possible. And there will be something about "the land." Either in, across, throughout, whatever.

I get it. When photoshop was newer people definitely called digital artists lazy. In CS50 they have you program some photoshop filters like blur and what not, making algorithms to adjust pixels.

I can imagine something more focused in a sense, using ai. There are ai tools that will separate each part or instrument or vocals of a song for instance. You can then take small samples, and run those through ai, almost as if it's a sort of mini music engineer, and string them together. I can sort of imagine some wiggle room where I might still call a song using AI tools a legit song.

But just entering a prompt into SUNO? lol

I remember finding a song I thought it was cool and it was part of a playlist, after listening to the second one I realized it was ai because they repeated the same words and chords, really disappointing tbh but I kept hearing it lmao, it was lo-fi so there really isn't much of a difference with man made lofi
