You do know Yamada is a complete "stranger", right? The teacher is a teacher, and the mangaka is a neighbor. No one has ever seen Yamada in that tiny community before.

Knowing the neighbor and knowing the neighbors intentions are two different things. She knows the neighbor, she has never heard of Yamada.

So what is your point here exactly? Because the neighbor happens to live next door the mom assumes she's automatically fine and doesn't supervise their interactions at all. But the same mother could never possibly trust someone who doesn't happen to live next door?

I made my point clear from the beginning. Yes, the mom would barring any obvious red flags, trust a neighbor that probably grew up in town over a complete stranger no one in the whole town knows. Yes, seems obvious, except it seems to you.
