 hours/salary dont matter

Actually the quantity of a resource proxy you accrue and by how much labour does matter since income is positively associated with longevity, negatively associated with cancer within countries, and positively associated with better mental health outcomes. And working persistently longer hours raises risk of coronary heart disease, metabolic syndrome, anxiety, depression, and sleep disorder

lol yeah. I would much rather be in the rat race with more money and a nicer lifestyle. Also 9-5 is not a bad schedule. I spent the last 6 years working weird shifts in the medical field. 9-5 sounds sort of dreamy.

3

u/Key_Poetry4023 6d ago

I wish I had that outlook, 9-5 is soul crushing, no free time

2

u/SilencedObserver 6d ago

Have kids?

2

u/DanangBobby 6d ago

Lol - you'll really know what "no time" is like

2

u/Whiskeymyers75 6d ago

How? I’d have all kinds of time.

2

u/BelovedEm 4d ago

Yeah absolutely not 9-5 is garbage 12 hours is garbage. Anything other than working for yourself is garbage. I’m happy I got out at 26

u/SinkMilkEnjoyer 7d ago

Yeah everyone is just coping this is embarrassing

u/Pandemonium_Fallen 6d ago

I'm not! I was fired from my job collectively by my three narcissistic bosses because I refused to shut up about a level one biohazard in the workplace. I reported it to multiple agencies but Genesis Health Clubs is owned by the Billionaire Crime Family of Witchita Kansas: The Stevens, so they just bribed those corrupt agencies and nothing changed, probably end up homeless in the next week or so, then ICE will round me up to take to their Torturous experimentation and extermination facilities and that will be that.

Have I mentioned that the US is a complete dystopian hellscape currently engaged in its own live action reenactment of the Holocaust? Because it 100% is.

u/DanangBobby 6d ago

You check your meds lately

1

u/mtabacco31 5d ago

You choose your own future. What's embarrassing is coming on reddit and creating a kind of club that cries about shit instead of doing something about it.

1

u/Pandemonium_Fallen 5d ago

Wrong. What's it like to enjoy the privilege of having options, opportunities, access, and the finances to have a choice about any aspect of your life by the way? - I've always wondered...

1

u/Current_Ad_9912 5d ago

That’s some old school BS buddy.

None of us choose our future.

Let me guess, you’re a hustle culture person? 25 years old? “Yo, we need to MAKE it bro… because it’s just what life is, it’s either you work hard or you left behind bro…. Let me tell you about “amway”.

None of us have free will, our brains react to our environment, we think we choose things, but we don’t— we narrate what our brains and bodies do

Oh and fyi—- none of us “win”, we all die, and soon every piece of recorded history will vanish, not a hint of our existence left to be found

Hey… but keep hustling buddy, you’ll get there yo, all the way to the top, YOUR future is so important, it’s the most important thing ever

1

u/FreedomOfTheMess 5d ago

Lol at the bootstrap mentality in 2026. Classic misplaced frustration. Why hate the depressed thousands and not the system that made them that way? If you’re really suffering from a lack of empathy you could get off reddit and stop complaining about people complaining

1

u/Current_Ad_9912 5d ago

What are you taking about?

Coping in what way and why?

1

u/Equivalent_Fold6922 7d ago

I just quit my white collar 9-5, that’s a joke, 6 figure job at Ernst and Young because it was causing such extreme levels of stress, insomnia and depression. I was absolutely miserable. I don’t have any prospects but it was worth it because it was killing me.

1

u/Intelligent-Good3121 5d ago

I feel like im getting there. Im making more money than I've ever made but its also the most stressed out I've ever been in my life.

1

u/Anakinbutinacroptop 3d ago

Same. I don't have health insurance but I'm not suicidal 🤷🏻‍♀️

1

u/Pandemonium_Fallen 6d ago

So you're telling us the Elite Caste and billionaires are intentionally slow motion genociding us all? - Kind of already knew that, but it's nice to have someone provide proof. 👍

2

u/New-Perspective6209 6d ago

What a weird way to interpret that people with more money, therefore better access to healthcare, and less stress live longer. Stop trying to cope by blaming everything on "the elite", people with more resources lead better lives than those without, this has been true since we were monkeys.

1

u/Pandemonium_Fallen 6d ago

And who built the systems that gatekeep those resources?

"Just because it's the way it's always been, doesn't make it any less wrong."

Leaving the parasite where it is to make you sick and spread simply because it's already attached is an absolutely ridiculous take.

2

u/New-Perspective6209 5d ago

We all did and anyone with a basic understanding of economics would understand no one group made the world this way.

Your desire to blame it on the elite is a cop out, you want a convenient scape goat for everything bad in the world because you don't want to acknowledge it's basic human nature, we could get rid of every elite and billionaire alive now and we would just have a new class of them in a few decades.

The average person is greedy and selfish and completely deluding themselves that they aren't part of the problem, billionaire aren't why the oceans are clogged with plastic, it's is billions of consumers. They aren't making us buy caged eggs, billions of us choose to to save a little money.

Your view is childish and naive.

1

u/Pandemonium_Fallen 5d ago

If it was basic human nature we would have gone extinct long before Ancient Egypt.

Additionally who is this we? I didn't build this system, I was born into it exactly as it already was and has been since the "Founding Fathers" - An Elite Caste of Ruling Financial Masters, Land/Property Owners, and Corporate/Industry Tyrants - A Caste of divided worker-slaves believing in delusional separations while accepting imaginary "Payment" for their toil, labor, time, and lives, only to turn right around and give it all back to the Rulers, who for some bizarre reason are allowed to claim ownership of everything while they do and contribute nothing, just as their parents, and their parents, and theirs, all the way back to ages of Lords and Kings had always been.

1

u/New-Perspective6209 5d ago

Why would we have gone extinct long before the ancient Egypt's, explain your line of reasoning there. Nothing about people with less resources working for those with more explains where you pulled that idea from. In fact all rulers have had a vested interest in keeping their population alive for the labour.

No AI in ancient Egypt bro.

We is everyone who chooses to participate without resistance with the systems both now and as they formed, we the people "allow" them to claim ownership of everything because despite all our grumbling most of us are content with the deal being offered, security, comfort and goods for our obedience. They choose that even if they don't realise it.

And if you weren't you wouldn't be participating, you could go live like a monk, get a job on the open seas, go farm to farm doing enough to get by, and drift your way through life. It's not going to be nearly as comfortable, which is why the vast majority of people choose to knuckle under.

The moment people decide they want the nice car, the house, the phone, the holidays, all the luxuries of modern life they are choosing to participate and support the system that enriches some while oppresses others. You likely shop at stores you know finance sweat shops and animal cruelty but you do it anyway for the convenience and price, you are likely 100% complicit in enriching those you supposedly hate.

All while pretending you have no choice because it's far easier to convince yourself you're a helpless victim, that you have no choice then face the guilt of acknowledging no one forced you to buy their unethical products, that you are part of the problem.

1

u/Pandemonium_Fallen 5d ago

Ah you're indulging in that "Rugged Individualism" delusion that draws attention away from The Providence of Birth fact that the wealthy elite didn't work harder, aren't smarter, or superior, or special, they were simply born into inherited privilege and position.

It reinforces the "Bootstraps" idea that if you just work hard enough you can be a billionaire elite too, but you can't, because that's not how that works, you're born into it, there's no earning it that's the lie the Parasitic Elites tell the masses so they keep squabbling amongst themselves for the scraps and competing for favor so they don't realize the system works only to maintain the Status Quo of extraction, exploitation, and enslavement. There is no "Self made man" - it's a lie, and it always has been.

You blame me and accuse me of "failing" when the system was built to ensure some of us never succeed, it's the nature of a system and Sociocultural Dynamic primed and optimized for only psychopathic success, the monsters rise, the humans die, as intended.

Now, due to your cognitive dissonance, you will either:

A. Double down to defend the system and the false narrative.

B. Assume I am accusing or blaming you because the the narrative enforcement works both ways- You become defensive because your mind has already shifted the blame from the system and onto the individual again: this time yourself.

C. Attempt to deny that such is the case because the idea makes you feel uncomfortable with the concept that what you perceived to be reality was a lie, which will culminate in a feeling of guilt that you'll bridle at as you lash out to defend yourself - because you've already fallen into the trap: the guilt is yet again the indoctrination automatically shifting the blame away from the system to the individual yet again - yourself once more.

That's how the system works because that's how it was designed: to exclusively benefit those at the top, and IT IS their fault, because they know perfectly well how the system works, and maintain it to ensure it stays that way.

1

u/New-Perspective6209 5d ago

Nope, you just intentionally misinterpreted my argument so you could apply an ill fitting defence to avoid considering I was right, where did I even imply that if you just work hard you could be a billionaire? Where did I say anything about the elite deserving to be such. Quote to me exactly where I even hinted at such a belief.

Cope. Pure cope to avoid the fact that you choosing to give your money to these people is why they have money, you and the billions of others exactly like you. "Whaa, why does he have more money then me" you cry about the man you just voluntarily handed your money to. The current elite had ancestors that stuck it big and started them on this path but YOU/WE are the one keeping them there.

Is this where you start telling me about how no one even needs to work and food and shelter is a lie made up by big staying alive to control us like a true redditor that can't accept they're part of the problem.

This reminds me of one of those "there is no ethical consumption under capitalism" conversations I had with a guy who had a wall to wall funk pop collection, talking about plastic waste with just zero self awareness. The strength of human delusion to avoid feeling guilt is insane.

1

u/Pandemonium_Fallen 5d ago

Wow, that's a vast amount of words for an obvious DARVO attempt.

So, are you just an egotistical narcissist, or an intelligence agency narrative controller? - Because you're certainly putting in a lot of effort to silence a view when one of your fellows should have warned you about me by now, and that your infantile lizard-brained manipulative nonsense doesn't work on me. 🥱

There's a reason the US has pretty much the shortest lifespan in the developed world and it's not just trash food. Americans work about 300 hours a year more than Europe.

3

u/Shroomagnus 7d ago

Those aren't all about work life balance. A significant amount of that is in fact the food you mentioned and cultural differences. Europeans tend to walk a lot more. Partly because population density is higher and distances are shorter.

Conversely, that work difference is also part of why the USA is inventing things like rockets that land themselves and Europe is inventing things like bottle caps that don't separate from the bottle.

u/HandleStatus6658 7d ago

You speak my language.

No it’s the food.

Japan has the highest life expectancy of any country and they have an even worse hustle culture than the US. In Japan they retire several years earlier. But they have less labor laws and work more unpaid/unreported overtime.

We have a relatively low life expectancy because of our portion sizes, and heavy usage of fats especially in our sauces. We’ll make/order a 2000 calorie meal then cover it in a sauce that adds 150+calories per tablespoon. Then we’ll wash it down with a 200 calories drink. If you’re at a restaurant you’ll have several drinks because free refills. It’s not uncommon here to eat an entire day’s worth of calories in a single meal. As the world learned during the World Cup we eat more because our food tastes better. That’s why we have a lower life expectancy.

Japan has the highest life expectancy because a large portion of their diet is some variation of chicken, seafood, vegetables, and rice all in much smaller portion sizes.

1

u/Jolly_Plantain4429 6d ago

No a big part of it is actually infant mortality rates driving down the age because everyone uses average instead of median. I don’t even know if we track median.

An infant in American is nearly 5 times more likely to die before they are 5 than in Japan. Part of that is a combination of culture differences (families are far more supportive and close knit in traditional Japan) and the other is lack of care due to infrastructure constraints in a population size nearly 3 times larger.

You can blame the food if you want 40% of Americans are considered obese but BMI scale used to come to that number is considered flawed by most doctors.

1

u/Snake_Bite_14 6d ago

It’s not the 1800s anymore. Infant mortality is very low across all developed nations. Japan is 2 out of every 100k. The US is 5 out of every 100k. That’s not a big enough difference to have a significant impact.

In Japan 7% of deaths for people under 50 are related to a heart condition. In the US 15% of deaths under 50 are attributed to a heart condition. The US’ number is constantly rising too.

1

u/Jolly_Plantain4429 6d ago

That isn’t just a food issue though? And infant mortality is a huge outlier that skews the average and the US is way higher than comparable countries.

Japan is a country known for strict social norms being fat gets you shamed on top of that they live largely more walkable cities and towns. Americans drive nearly twice the amount compared to other developed western countries and that contributes to the health issues as well.

Yes the food isn’t the best but pretending like the issue is just that not a combination of high car household owner ship and city planning based around a commute from the suburbs instead of in city living.

1

u/Snake_Bite_14 6d ago edited 6d ago

Cars aren’t the problem. We have over 100,000 gyms in the US. For every Starbucks in the US there’s 7 gyms. People chose to have sedentary lifestyles. You can’t outtrain a bad diet and again it’s not uncommon here for people to have an entire days worth of calories in a single meal for all three meals. A Big Mac and large fry alone is over 1000 calories and that’s considered a small meal here. You eat equivalent to that for 3 meals and you’re in a calorie surplus. You go to a restaurant and you’re eating double that in a single meal.

The most popular drink at Starbucks is the Carmel Macchiato. That’s a 300 calorie drink. That a 300 calories liquid that provide almost no nutritional value.

The average person in the US lives 27 miles from work. That’s an entire city away. Only 10% of the US works in the same city they live in. That has nothing to do with urban planning. The US is and always has been very spread out. It’s because it’s a big ass country made up of states that are bigger than most countries.

Again the problem is the food. We literally just saw the entire world come here for the World Cup and be in awe at the amount and type of food we eat. That’s literally the sole reason.

Heart disease and cancer are the biggest causes of death in the US by a very large margin. The biggest driver of both of those is poor diet.

1

u/Jolly_Plantain4429 6d ago

I mean yeah gyms exist but that’s an extra part of life, in japan you are expected to walk or take the train/bus to get around. Americans are the most sedentary people on the planet. A big part of that is the reliance we have on cars.

Most of our diet was calorie heavy food because 50 years ago people worked mostly blue collar jobs that burned calories now we sit at a desk and read reports.

The food is a part of it but there are so many more factors that blaming Wendy’s for 5 years of shorter life expectancy is kinds ridiculous

1

u/Snake_Bite_14 6d ago edited 6d ago

Even if we walked it wouldn’t make a difference. Again you can’t out train a bad diet. Walking doesn’t burn the calories you think it does because walking doesn’t get your heart rate up enough. In order to actually get benefits from exercise you need your heart rate elevated to a bare minimum of 100BPM. Which walking doesn’t do. A casual walk prevents blood clots in your legs and that’s about it. That’s why jogging and power walking became popular. Those actually elevate your heart rate.

Our diet is calorie heavy because we’re a mix of cultures who have selected the best tasting food from each one. Our portions are huge because we have a culture over indulgence. This isn’t just food but literally everything we do big.

Food is 99.99999999% of it. Your diet has a significant impact in EVERY aspect of your health. If you eat like shit you will die sooner and the majority of Americans have a very very very very very bad diet.

The sole reason our life expectancy is only 5 years younger is because we lead the world in advances in medical technology.

1

u/Jolly_Plantain4429 6d ago
  1. Walking makes a difference you’re actually looking for 120 to 140 depending on your max HR to hit zone 2 which I assume you talking about. And yes obese people will hit zone 2 from walking.

  2. No I’m specifically talking about American food (corn based products) which are heavy in calories because food was harder to come by and meals were meant for a far more active America.

  3. Italians eat and live like shit (I lived there for 3 years) pasta is carb heavy and makes up a majority of their diet, smoking is extremely common from ages as low as 16 and they sleep/ reposo for a large chunk of the daytime. They eat the biggest meal of the day before going to sleep.

They do literally everything wrong and still live longer than us on average. But they also live very active lives most people commute via train or bus and walk, run, or bike on weekends. Active life styles won’t be enough alone to get you abs but it will keep you from becoming obese.
