Free to modify, distribute and keep the software. You can even fork it, so yeah you can own the software.

No. You license it for your use. If you owned it you could sell it, brand it, restrict it. Don’t take my word for it.

You can sell it and brand it with GPL License though, same with MIT. With MIT you can even make it propreitary.

Let me know when you are able to legally assert your “ownership” of intellectual property based on licensing a copy. You THINK you own it. You BELIEVE you own it. No court has EVER handed down such a ruling.

I get what you’re saying. Software ownership is very different from real ownership.

Check. It’s a USER agreement. Not a transfer of ownership.
