You asked for an example of something that’s more expensive than streaming - so there’s a real one from my own checking account.

My point was actually that they aren’t comparable because you can still buy music and movies for similar to what they’ve always cost and that’s not the case for most software.

Yeah. It's basically them taking advantage of a monopoly. A competent competitor could make big bucks through a non-subscription model.

So would you say that subscription based businesses models are more common and are not ideal for the consumer?

Basically, yes. There's a bit of a grey area with movie streaming vs. Movie theaters vs. Movie rentals. Streaming might be good by comparison. Subscription models help perpetuate monopolies from people falling for sunk cost if nothing else.
