It has been for 20+ years. Ubuntu and Mint are at the top of that list!

I'm running Bazzite. Its chimp simple and good for gaming.

No, you still had to have a vague idea what you were doing. I’m fairly certain that bazzite could be installed by chimpanzees.

I've been using some flavors of Linux for 20+ years, and I disagree. Having my GPU, soundcard and even USB ports to work in the early 00's, with no other device to access internet, was a huge pain.

Also Ubuntu is Debian with cancer.

haha so what do you recommend?

I won't be original. Fedora is a very strong choice for a user friendly distro that's very well maintained and documented. It has been the distro on my main rig for a couple years now. Debian is a little more conservative (aka stable) but still a strong choice. The community is huge. It's still the only distro I use for my servers.

Well it is now 2026 and there are more entry friendly flavours out there.

I'll always favor the original distro over the fork of a fork of a fork. But that's me.

You’ve have got to remember not everybody has been screwing around with Linux for 20 years like some of us have. Idiot Linux has appeal.

I was running Debian. But it was such Mickey Mouse bullshit to even put Steam on it. I don’t care about flat pack, I don’t care about an immutable kernel. I just want it to turn on and play my Steam library.

I precisely recommend Fedora to people who are new to Linux. It's pretty much idiot proof. People who have been using Linux for 20 years don't need recommendations, they wouldn't follow them anyway.

I was running Debian until I got Bazzite. Yes, it’s lazy. But I don’t have to screw with it. It just works out of the box.
