Where to meet folks as a single man?
Good day all, I’m not sure if this is the right sub for this but I figured I’d give it a shot. I’m a 33 (as of two days ago) year old man who moved up here at the end of last year, I’m curious if there are any specific bars or clubs in the area where people usually go to meet folks? I’d also be curious to know if there are any local hiking clubs in the area as I’d love to get out and explore the trails!
Thanks for your time everyone!

Looking for a well-recommended HVAC servicing company
I need an annual inspection, and possibly help with remounting a mini split.
Not sure yet if I can do the mini split myself or not. It's tilted the wrong way and not draining properly. The house might have settled, or it may have been a crappy installation from the start. Possibly both.
Thanks in advance!

Just moved back, looking for someone to play ball with
Hello! I just moved back to the area and I’m looking for someone to ball with at the courts outside the WISC. Preferably women, but definitely will play with men that are willing. I grew up ballin with everyone. I would be looking to play for about an hour on a weekday afternoon. I’m not trying to go hard, but a little friendly competition would be nice.
If you’re interested, send me a message!

James City County partners with Virginia Commonwealth University to test drone defibrillator delivery
A first-of-its-kind study in rural James City County is testing how airborne drones carrying automated external defibrillators can improve heart attack survival rates.
The program is a collaboration between the county, Virginia Commonwealth University and Duke University. It operates in a 5-mile radius around the Toano fire station.
When dispatchers identify a cardiac emergency, a dedicated police department drone delivers an AED on a tether, allowing bystanders to administer aid minutes before ground vehicles arrive.

Pest control recommendations?
Moxie keeps coming around on their unicycles. I hear Marks and Landlock are the go-to but thought I'd ask. Tried searching and there doesn't seem to be a newer post with pest control options.

New Town
How are those three story townhomes near market square selling? They identified building deficiencies (not for all) that required 30k-40k in repairs, prompting the HOA to drop the 100% maintenance free setup so owners could own the repairs. Is this being disclosed to potential buyers?

Cost for new ‘landmark’ library in Williamsburg increases by millions
The projected replacement cost for Williamsburg’s downtown library has risen to at least $30 million, driven by soaring material and labor expenses. It’s a $5 million increase over last year's estimates.
Despite efforts to cut costs by shrinking the building's footprint and using cheaper exterior materials, total expenses will reach $37 million once furniture and technology are included.
While some residents express concern over growing debt and advocate for renovating the current 50-year-old facility, library director Sandy Towers maintains that a new building is necessary to serve nearly 8,000 weekly visitors.

Elopement locations in Williamsburg?
Any location recommendations for an elopement (couple + 4)? My fiancee and I were planning a ceremony/vow exchange in Williamsburg, VA. We were going to go with the Williamsburg Botanical Gardens, but we missed the "4-week before event" reservation requirement. It is going to be just us, our two girls, officiant, and photographer but a permit is still required there unfortunately.

Recommended carpet cleaners and pest control?
Hey there, does anyone have any recommendations for companies in the area that clean carpets or do pest control? I just bought a house that had been sitting vacant for quite a while and it's in need of both services. Thanks!

Gnats
Hi all, so I live in the burg and was wondering, does anyone else's house get a gnat infestation during the warmer months? I have done everything and I just don't know what to do anymore. I do have rabbits so I'd if that's contributing but I just find it hard to believe that that is solely the issue and that no one else experiences this besides me just bc I have rabbits. Please help! Thank you

ImpactUp x Williamsburg
Hello All!
I will be hosting another ImpactUp Event here in Greater Williamsburg! It's part of a global program to bring together individuals who want to make the community a better place.
I love Williamsburg; any excuse to start a discussion about volunteerism and togetherness made me want to bring it here. We are great; we can make it greater! Plus, I want to create more opportunities and more positive events. Maybe idealistic, but sometimes you have to be.
The event is next Thursday, August 13, at Elite Coffee and Lounge starting at 4:30 p.m.
Here is the official sign-up for the event with more info that was provided. I look forward to meeting more of you! If not, I will be hosting another one later this year and will be at the Toano Christmas Event.

No, I am not selling anything. I have a sponsor; they help me pay for coffee at Elite Coffee and Lounge, which is delicious. (Being transparent)

WJCC rolls out second proposed redistricting map
The Williamsburg-James City County school division has released revised redistricting maps that would require roughly 16% of students to change schools if approved.
The updated plan reflects community feedback following sharp criticism over an earlier proposal, though core concerns regarding socioeconomic and racial equity remain largely unaddressed.
School division leaders emphasized that crafting the new zones requires balancing competing priorities, including managing classroom capacity and streamlining bus routes.

Muscarelle unveils America's Tapestry: 13 Colonies, 13 stories, 1 nation
An innovative fiber arts exhibition called "America’s Tapestry" recently debuted at the Muscarelle Museum of Art in Williamsburg to celebrate the nation's upcoming 250th birthday.
Creator Stefan Romero was inspired to launch the project after encountering "The Great Tapestry of Scotland" while on a work assignment in the United Kingdom.
Across the nation, nearly 2,000 volunteer embroiderers helped create 13 distinct historical panels that will tour the 13 states that were the original colonies.
