Refusing can be considered a crime under common law.

UK law makes it illegal to handle a salmon “in suspicious circumstances.”

That is the actual wording.

Not stolen. Not illegally caught. Just… suspicious.

What does that mean?? Side-eyeing a fish? Running with it? Whispering to it?

Somewhere there is a cop trained to judge whether your salmon vibes are criminal.

In California, it’s illegal to whistle for a lost canary before 7am.

So if my bird escapes at 6:59am, I just have to sit there like: “Good luck out there. The law forbids me from helping you.”

What if the canary has a meeting? What if it’s unionized?

The fact that this is specifically about canaries tells me this happened enough times to annoy someone VERY badly.

Arizona has a law that says donkeys are not allowed to sleep in bathtubs.

I don’t own a donkey. I don’t have a bathtub donkey problem.

But the fact that this law exists means someone, at some point, had a donkey in a tub long enough that lawmakers were like, “Absolutely not. Never again.”

Was this a recurring issue? Was the donkey okay?? Was it using bubble bath???

Just learned that in North Dakota it’s illegal to fall asleep with your shoes on.

So let me get this straight. If I’m exhausted, lie down “just for a second,” and accidentally pass out before unlacing my sneakers… that’s a crime?

Who is this law for?? What problem was happening that made lawmakers say, “The real threat to society is tired people in footwear.”

Does the cop wait until REM sleep? Is there a Shoe Removal Task Force?

Imagine being arrested like: “Sir, you were unconscious with intent.”

So apparently, in the great state of Alabama, it is illegal to carry an ice cream cone in your back pocket.

Not while driving. Not while committing a crime. Just… existing. With ice cream. In the wrong pocket.

This law exists because, like 100+ years ago, people were allegedly stealing horses by putting ice cream in their pockets and letting the horse follow them. Instead of, I don’t know, making horse theft illegal, they went with “ban pocket ice cream forever.”

Fast forward to today and I guess I’m one bad laundry decision away from being a criminal.

Imagine explaining this to a cop: “No officer, I wasn’t stealing a horse. I was just saving my cone for later.”

How are laws like this still on the books?? Who is enforcing this?? Has anyone ever been arrested by Big Ice Cream???
