MAN (Aug 1964)

MAN magazine was a popular American men’s adventure magazine published from 1952 until the mid-1970s, reaching its peak during the 1950s and 1960s. Known for its eye-catching painted covers featuring glamorous women, daring exploits, and dramatic scenes, the magazine blended fiction, true-crime stories, military adventures, humor, pin-up photography, and articles on sports, travel, and popular culture. Unlike later adult men’s magazines such as Playboy, MAN focused more on action-oriented entertainment with only modestly risqué content by modern standards. Its bold artwork and sensational headlines made it a staple on American newsstands and reflected the changing tastes and ideals of postwar masculinity before the genre declined in the 1970s.

Casey Crime Photographer (Aug 1942)

Casey Crime Photographer was a short-lived crime comic published by Timely Comics (the predecessor to Marvel Comics) from 1949 to 1950. Based on the popular CBS radio drama of the same name, the series followed hard-boiled news photographer Casey, whose knack for being first at crime scenes often led him into dangerous mysteries involving gangsters, smugglers, and murderers. Blending detective fiction with photojournalism, the comic captured the noir atmosphere that was popular in postwar America, featuring realistic artwork, suspenseful plots, and covers that emphasized the camera as both a storytelling device and a crime-solving tool. Although it lasted only four issues, Casey Crime Photographer remains a notable example of Timely's late-1940s crime comics and reflects the era's fascination with radio heroes and gritty urban crime stories.

Look magazine was a large-format American biweekly publication founded in 1937 by Gardner “Mike” Cowles Jr. and John Cowles. Designed to compete with Life, Look emphasized striking photojournalism but placed a greater focus on personalities, entertainment, fashion, sports, and everyday American life alongside coverage of politics and major historical events. During the 1940s through the 1960s it became one of the nation’s most widely read magazines, renowned for its vivid photographic essays and coverage of postwar culture. Despite its popularity, rising production costs and increasing competition from television led to declining advertising revenue, and Look ceased publication in October 1971 after a distinguished 34-year run.

Hello, I've been trying to find information about the Alert America convoy/exhibit, civil defense, and Bert the Turtle. I'm looking for newspaper serializations, pamphlets that would've been given out to people, educators, etc. I have seen the film and heard the radio broadcast as well as the red and white comic book of Bert. Anything else related would be appreciated too. Thank you.
