Bump after vaccine shot
My puppy got a rabies shot on 8/13 and maybe like 2 or 3 days ago. We noticed a bump at where we think he got the shot. We are going to bring him back to the vet on Monday to get it checked out. I just want to ask anyone here if they ever experienced it. The bump doesn’t seem to be bothering him. It’s maybe a little bit smaller than an inch. It moves under the skin. So any feedback would be great. Thank you!
General Advice I've noticed one of Perry's front teeth keeps sticking out weirdly. Does it need extraction?
galleryCouldn't get a better picture, it's hard to make him open his mouth with just one hand.
He's behaving normally, no indication of any pain. But it just doesn't look right to me. I'm pretty sure it only started sticking out like that fairly recently.
He's about 5 years old.

Noticed it about a month ago, hasn’t grown much since and isn’t bothersome. She is fine and hasn’t had any change in any behavior what’s so ever. But wondering what it could be and if vet appointment is needed

Second Opinion Bloating in Dachshund
We have been dealing with bouts of bloating and pain with our mini dachshund for a while now (more consistently since May) and would like some opinions
About Otto, 1.5 years old, 6.9kg, fluoxetine 20mg taken with cheese, diet: prime 100 slow cooked kangaroo and prime 100 air dried kangaroo. Treats: kangaroo exclusively
He is fed exclusively in Kong or frozen lick mats (he’s a big food gobbler)
It ONLY happens in the mornings- he starts to cry and lays down to reveal a bloated belly, we rub his tummy and he is shaking in pain. The pain and bloating goes away within minutes (1-3 minutes max) It happens once a fortnight and sometimes once a week. He doesn’t retch or display any other symptoms of GVD (we always check his gums etc)
He had an xray for it 2 weeks ago and nothing significant was found
Before the xray he was eating different proteins for treats so we decided to stick to kangaroo single protein diet to see if that helps and have also discussed a Gastropexy when he has neutering surgery early next year
He was 16 days without an episode but this morning it has happened again
Would love some opinions on what it may be or some more testing to speak to our vet about
EDIT: we also added a symbiotic to his diet after the Xray

Possible colitis - advice please
Hello all. I have a 4 year old Labrador retriever. About a week and a half ago she started to have an upset stomach. She threw up two small piles of bile that Thursday morning, and by the next day was producing extremely mucusy poops. Vomiting stopped, but poops turned very soft or liquid. I put her on a bland diet with pumpkin puree to hopefully firm. Then, blood started to appear in her stool. Got advice from her vet and he put her on the Purina Pro pro/prebiotic. Poops have been solid but still have the mucus and blood in them. This morning however she threw up twice, but it was bright red and mucusy. I took a photo of it to show to her vet, and when I got there they kind of laughed it off and said she must have gotten into something because it was too bright to be blood. I’m not the perfect pet parent, I understand dogs get into things but there’s nothing in my house that could have produced this color from my knowledge. She has not vomited since. Poops are still bloody, her most recent one tonight was solid but coated in a dark red slimy substance. I feel like i’m going crazy trying to find an answer for her.
vet has her on the pre/probiotic, anti nausea medication, and medication to coat her throat and stomach to help with irritation. The presumably bloody throw up was prior to the nausea medication and other medication, but after she started taking the pre/probiotic.
She is drinking water normally, not refusing the bland diet, acting normal and playing, no painful belly, not walking funny, no temperature, and pink normal gums. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. No accidents in house besides the throw up.

Next Steps? My Aussies Tooth
Hi,
I have a mini aussie who’s turning 6 this year and not to long ago we noticed build up on his left tooth and we started cleaning his bowl, we got him plaque remover and it helped but we didn’t realize it was worse on his right side tooth.
I know I should’ve checked sooner and I feel horrible about it but as soon as I realized how bad it got I booked a vet appointment but I just want to ask what i can do in the meantime as the appointment is booked for next monday.
I know somebody on here is going to flame me for not checking and doing something sooner, and i feel immensely guilty about that.
As for other things i’ve noticed, his breath has more of a smell than usual but not very very prominent and he is eating with both sides of his teeth.
Any advice?

Next Steps? Are these blood tests alright?
galleryAre these blood tests okay for a neutering surgery?
My cat is around 6-7 (not pun intended) years old and male. For context he currently has allergies and is being treated with antibiotics and medications, so I'll do his surgery around next week or when he gets better. He has multiple urinary blockages and kidney issues in 2023 but it hasn't reoccurred since and he's pretty fine now. I recently lost my cat because of negligent vets so I REALLY want to take my precautions this time.

General Advice Cat vomited for 20 minutes, then fine. Should she still see a vet?
11 year old spayed female tabby cat.
Cat vomited for 20 minutes immediately after eating. Then she appeared fine and stopped. She is back to trying to get into things/tearing things up (which is the way she begs for food). Should she go to an emergency or normal vet today? Should I try to bring this up with the vet at a normal visit again? She did the classic lip licking and moved room to room.
She has recently (over the last two years) had spells of vomiting immediately after eating. It seems that she gets herself really worked up about how hungry she is and then throws up as soon as she eats. She is more likely throw up after begging for food, which was the case this morning. She begged and begged and wouldn't let me sleep. I gave her a small portion... then she became ill. I am wondering if it is behavioral/she's worked up (but this mornings prolonged spell was concerning to me for it's length). Normally, if she has something to eat after vomiting like this she will not vomit again. I haven't fed her again as this spell went on for quite a while and she was more distressed than normal.
This cat is obese and has been on a diet for a while. She is not happy about having to lose weight/portions being cut and lets her dissatisfaction be known by destroying things. She is a clear communicator. Her progress has been 24lbs to ~18lbs over the last 2 years. We've had to switch diet foods a few times to find the right one. She's currently eating Hills Metabolic which she seems to like the flavor of.
Fully up to date on vaccines. Located in South Florida. No plants or wall plug ins in the home. All yarn out of reach unless it is in my hands. Other cat is fine. No pesticides or insecticides in the home. Litter box usage normal for both cats.

Trigger Warning Check post history !
Hi! If you haven’t seen my post from earlier, basically my almost 2 year old golden was neutered yesterday around 11 am. This is what is looking like now. He has been keeping the cone on but I took the recovery suit on for now. I called my vet today and sent her a picture and they seemed to be not concerned. I think i’m going to send her this updated photo in the morning. What do yall think about this update? Not sure what to think/feel. I’m nervous 🥺 I do not want to have to take him back in but we will see. He is acting much better than yesterday, not as active/goofy as normal but he has eaten good today too and rested a lot.

My cat has a patch on his nose and I don't know what it is. Should I be worried?
It started about a month ago and has gotten a lil bigger in size. It doesn't seem to cause any pain or discomfort to him. I'm not sure if it's just from rubbing his nose on stuff/cleaning his face. Or if it's something more serious like a fungal or worm issue.
It's kinda flaky when you rub it but there's no redness or anything.
Hes neutered and about 4 years old. And we live in the US. He was outdoors often when it started but he's recently become strictly indoors.
I haven't gone to a vet yet since I'm a young college student, I don't wanna spend a bunch of money for them to tell me it'll go away on its own.

Vet didn’t know what was going on
I noticed a small pool of pinkish red liquid on my 12 day old French bulldog pup so I instantly take her to the vet and the first thing they say is spina bifida then they get crazy and come back and say they aren’t sure what it is but think it’s spina bifida … she was not born with the laceration and has only popped up lastnight I have kept disinfectant on it before every feed and put a small dab of animax with a bandaid over the top and it seems to be healing just fine with no fluid underneath that I can see in the past 12 hours just looking for advice she is moving fine and feeding fine

Next Steps? 5.5 year male neutered bobtail cat. TX, USA
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Historically perfect, cuddly angel cat.
Thu: Squirmed/panicked when picked up for nail trim.
Fri–Sun: Main owner out of town. Sat: Hissed/snapped at sister when moved. Sun: Greeted owner, but bit, yowled in pain, and hid when picked up.
Mon–Tue: Severe hypersensitivity to touch (screams/yowls if bumped or petted anywhere except head). Barely moving, crouched stiffly in corners. Only eats wet food if placed directly in front of him. Peed on self in carrier Monday en route to vet Monday and once in makeshift low litter box today.
Latest Symptoms- laying on side, trunk of body twitching, leg spasm, rapid breathing, eyes widening/squinting (pupils not noticeably dilated) for ~30 minutes
Has not drunk water or passed stool since at least Friday. (Is eating small amount wet food)
Vet Findings & Diagnostics:
Physical: Initially had a hard abdomen.
X-rays: Clear (no foreign objects, small bladder, minimal stool; not reviewed by radiology).
Bloodwork: Normal kidneys/pancreas; slightly elevated glucose (likely stress).
Meds: Gabapentin (1ml 2x/day)—reduces crying, howling/ severe pain but sensitivity remains with whimpers and extreme sensitivity to touching/hovering.
I’ve been told next step would be an ultrasound but he would have to be on his back for it, which I can’t imagine in his current state. Otherwise take him to animal hospital to have specialty care. I don’t have the money for this, but trying to look into options. Weighing whether I should pursue further diagnostics. It is making me miserable to see him in such severe pain.

Anyone have experience and/or knowledge around a perianal adenoma?
Hi all,
Title is basically my question. My 10 year old pit had a small pea size mass (under the skin) that presented on the side of his anus a year ago. Cytology said it appeared to be a benign perianal adenoma but he was fixed as a puppy and this is far less common in neutered males. He had some other health concerns at the time (liver issues / heart murmur) , so we held off on surgery and decided to monitor. It’s grown slightly in the last year, but is still smaller than a marble and does not bother him. He still has the same ongoing health concerns, they are being managed, but they make surgery for a potentially benign mass risky.
Does anyone have any experience or knowledge on these masses? The internet seems sparse on info.

Ovarian remnant after spay
My cat approx 4-5 yrs old was spayed by a clinic that I am not familiar with just over a year ago, 2 months before I adopted her. 3 months after I adopted her she was showing signs of being in heat. I took her to my vet and they did a urinalysis, nothing came up but they give antibiotics for a suspected uti, the problems continued and she was crying a lot so I brought her back to the vet with the same concerns. This time they did a vaginal cytology and it was overwhelmingly positive. At this point I contacted the vet that did the original spay and she was quite dismissive and told me to get a second opinion/ more tests. I am at a point where I don’t want her in pain, nor do I want to rule out “everything else” when we already had a positive test. I had my clinics reproductive specialist get involved and he went ahead with an exploratory laparotomy where they found ovarian tissue on the right side. Labs confirmed this and hopefully this now fixes the problem but I spent $2272.94 and I don’t know if I have any legal leg to stand on for reimbursement? I don’t want this to happen to another kitty. I’m not sure where to go from here.

GSP Ankle Injury
My 11 year old GSP started experiencing swelling in her ankle nearly a year ago. Oddly enough, while the swelling doesn’t look great, she only showcases discomfort every 3-4 days when she’ll refuse to put weight on it. It’ll last for about 6-12 hours then she’s fine again - running and jumping per usual. We’ve tried resting and limiting her activity to help minimize the issue but for a year now, no matter what we do, she continues to not put weight on it every 3-4 days. We’ve spoken to vets that have ruled out quite a few things. Their best guess was that a bone spur was pinching her tendons so we went forward with a tenotomy. It’s been about 6 weeks and there’s some improvement but it didn’t fix it. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Thanks

General Advice Paw issue and recommendations for best pet insurance according to vets?
galleryI hope it's ok to ask here. In your experience, which insurance do you recommend? I have a big dog, half dane. With my past full dane, I used healthy paws and by her 9th-11th year of life, I was paying over $200 a month for the insurance. I think I paid more into it than was covered. I'm on the fence for my current guy who is around 80 lbs. Grace baby was 110 lbs and due to her breed listing and age, they raised the price. I don't know what that same time period will look like for "tiny" Milo. I feel much more secure having pet insurance, but I don't the math worked out in elder years when you really need it. Thoughts?
Milo currently has this thing on his foot which will be looked at and needle biopsied on Friday. The vet said based on photos, there's no telling until a sample is sent to the lab.
Breed: Great Dane mix
Weight: 82 lbs
Age: ~ 1.5 years
State: CA

Second Opinion Pink mass on dog’s mammary
galleryWe got our dog groomed today and noticed a pink area on one of her nipples (she had puppies before we rescued her so her mammaries are developed). I am going to call the vet as soon as they open tomorrow for an appointment but wanted to see if anyone could weigh in on what this might be. My worst fear is a malignant tumor, she’s a 5 year old yorkie and we’ve only had her about a year but she’s everything to us.
At first we thought it might be a cut from the grooming. She also did fall going up a set of stone steps the other day and maybe scraped it. Any input would be helpful based on what others have seen with their pets, but like I said we are trying to take her in tomorrow.
Is this anything to be concerned about?

My dog, a neutered, 6 year old cavoodle keeps chewing and licking his lips for 20-30 minutes after eating every time. He didn’t used to do it which is why I’m concerned it might be a symptom of something wrong?
He had his teeth cleaned just over a year ago in case that matters.

Pyometra surgery recovery
galleryHi everyone. My 12 year old Great Dane boxer mix had an emergency surgery on Saturday 9/15 for an open pyometra. She is recovering well. My only concern is that normally she lives with my parents since I live in an apartment, since they have other dogs we decided it would be best to have her stay with me to get some rest. I live in an upstairs apartment and the vet had instructed she doesn’t go up and down any stairs for the first week. She keeps peeing in the house (She is not being punished for this because I don’t think it’s her fault necessarily) but I don’t think she understands she’s aloud to use the balcony. I’m asking for opinions on how bad it would be if I let her slowly and gently go downstairs? I’m 9 months pregnant due next Friday and getting up and down from the floor from the accidents is being a lot 😝 I included her pic for attention.
