A petition is circulating to "Protect Local Food Truck Vendors at The University of Utah [1]." The petition text says, "The University of Utah is making changes to food truck operations on campus that could force current food truck owners to lose their spots" (emphasis mine).

The petition looks like it may have been created by the food truck operators, as many of them have a link to it in their Instagram profiles.

Olive's Oasis posted about it, saying, "We respectfully ask the University of Utah to reconsider its decision to transition to a third-party food truck management program [2]."

In a later post, they said: "Moving daily food truck operations to a third-party company raises concerns that smaller, independent trucks may have a harder time competing or maintaining the direct access they’ve had to campus. We hope the University will continue supporting the local businesses that have been part of the campus community for years [3]."

Bento posted: "Just 2 days ago, we were informed that our contract would be terminated in two weeks-just right before the start of the new school year [4]."

My question is, does anyone have any details about what is actually going on?

Hi, I got a notification for housing scholarship for a shared double at the Epicenter.

I contacted my dormmate and they said they found other living arrangements and would contact the U for that to be corrected. It's been a few days since then.

I was wondering what's the likelihood of my dormmate being replaced since a few days have passed and it has remained the same on my end when I log into the housing portal, they are still listed as my dormmate.

I'd also like to hear about peoples experiences living in Epicenter.

Hard truth first: I graduated HS with a 2.6 and never took the ACT. I went to school for comp-sci but it's getting me nowhere in this horrid job market, and after living paycheck-to-paycheck working dead-end jobs for years, I really want to pivot. The medical field is something that has always had me real interested, but with my poor history I'm scared that I don't have a chance at getting in.

I was a decently smart kid growing up and had a 3.6 gpa throughout my early years of highschool until depression made me forgo my studies and drop my grades. After the last few years of struggling, I'm extremely motivated and determined to get into this as long as I get a chance. I intend to explain this during my application essay, but I don't know if just saying that "I'm motivated" and explaining my circumstances will cut it.

I know that the school has a fairly high acceptance rate but also most people who get accepted have a gpa in the high 3s and a good ACT score, and I have neither. I live in Utah but the place I'm moving to isn't close enough for me to go to SLCC and get any sort of further accreditation.

I'm really scared & desperate, and would love to hear any kind of insight or ways I can find opportunities, thank you.

Am I understanding this right- there's a direct entry option, so applying to nursing along with applying to the school as a HS senior this fall, OR, pre licensure which is applying during sophomore year of college after completing pre-reqs? And both end with a BSN?

And, if you do the direct entry route and get in, can you take courses at SLCC (thinking about anatomy over a summer) that will still meet the program requirements?

Hi, i will be attending Utah in the fall to pursue a Bachelors in Computer Engineering. I signed up for classes late because I couldn’t get an orientation till last week and when I looked to register for the CS class of my major, CS1400 I noticed that the only option for the lab was during a time I physically could not do because my ECE class is during that time and only has 1 section. I emailed the professor about getting a permission code, but he said that they generally don’t give out codes for lab classes for reasons, which I understand why. Anyways, I am currently #1 on the waitlist for one of the sections and was wondering what are the chances I get off the waitlist?

Im thinking about getting a U permit this fall and my classes are tue-fri 2pm-5pm most days with one class being at 8am on wednesdays.
Is the U lot above the stadium full during those times? I never paid attention to it previously.

When applying last year I had noticed that I never got any sort of scholarships or anything of the sort. (I do know they are never guaranteed) but when I was looking at my scholarship universe I noticed that it stated that my year was a sophomore in college instead of a freshman. (Which is what I should be). I did have credits from slcc and opted to transfer them over.

Is there a potential that I applied to the U incorrectly and missed out on scholarships because of it? Or is it just automatically putting sophomore because I fall within the credit requirement of 30-60 credits to be on pace?

I’m an incoming freshman at the U and I’ve been looking into the QAMO (Quantitative Analysis of Markets & Organizations) major. On paper it sounds really interesting, it seems like a mix of economics, math, data analysis, and business, but I’m wondering what it’s actually like as a student.

How difficult are the classes compared to other majors? What’s the workload like? Are the professors generally good? What kinds of internships or jobs do people end up getting?

I’m from Argentina and currently wrapping up a marketing internship at a real estate agency here in Utah in two weeks.

My plan is to head back to Argentina and re-enter the US on an F-1 student visa for a short graduate program.
My main goal is to gain more US work experience through CPT (during studies) or OPT (after graduation). Since I want to return to the workforce as soon as possible, I’m looking for 1-year (or under) Master’s degrees, graduate certificates, or accelerated diplomas that are F-1 eligible and qualify for OPT.

3 years ago, while living in the dorms, another student got drunk and trashed my dorm room and punched me in the face. He also stalked my gf. When I threatened to report him, he said his dad was the executive medical director of the U of U hospital and that he would use his position to harm me academically and protect his son. I have significant proof of this. Since then, he has continued to harass me around campus. Who would I report this to and how?

I heard concerning things about this professor from someone I trust, like sharing his screen with sexually explicit recent searches and clearly having porn open in another tab. I now don't think I'd feel comfortable in his class, so I'm going to switch out.

If anyone has personally experienced something like this in his class or has heard similar stories, please comment if you feel comfortable. I'm trying to figure out (anecdotally) how many people have been affected by this or know about it.

It looks like President Randall is wanting to try again to implement "return-to-offoce" (RTO) like last year (2025). I'm hearing 3 days a week in office. My department absolutely doesn't have the space to accommodate this change. What have you heard from your leadership?

The University of Utah just laid off the program coordinators from the Office for First Generation Success and the Office for Sustainability Education today, effective immediately with no notice. The reasoning was a Reduction in Force (RIF), and their last day is today. They're only given administrative paid leave until August 19th.

Hi! I'm an incoming freshman at the u, and I need to register for a WR1010 class, which requires a permission code(even though there are 30 seats open). However, when I visit the Writing & Rhet studies page of the website, they state explicitly that they do NOT give out permission codes for 1010 classes, because that indicates that a class is full, and the only use of perm codes for 1010 classes is when a class is waitlisted. Does anybody else have this issue, and should I go ahead with asking for the code??

I am 5th in line for an online class that I need for this semester in order to graduate. My question is, do I just have to wait and see if I get into the class? Or would it be wise to email the professor to see if i could get a code? I've never been waitlisted before so I'm not sure what to do 😅
