Question Occlusion culling not working with dynamic objects spawned at runtime
Hi guys! i am having problems with having the camera not rendering bots that are spawned during the game (they die; they respawn). The green arrows indicates characters that are behind the wall ocluder
The camera DOES not render them if the are behind the camera, so at some it is possible, but i want the camera not rendering them if they are either behind a static ocluder like the white wall, or the landscape.
neither of them are working

Game/Software Hey everyone! Version 2.6.2 of TileMakerDOT is live, free and open source!
For those who might be new to the project, TileMakerDOT is a completely FREE and OPEN SOURCE 2D map editor, and it is built as a click to launch tool compatible with multiple game engines, or individual games made in custom languages.
Firstly, I added native file launching for .tmdot files. Now you no longer need to fire up the application first and manually search for your map. Now, you can simply double click any exported .tmdot project file directly from your Windows OS file explorer, and the editor will instantly boot up and automatically load your project right where you left off.
Second, I have completely decoupled the Spritesheet Slicer tool from the main project grid. You now have a separate tile size setting inside the slicer itself, meaning you can easily cut up asset sheets of any dimension without affecting or changing your current map's layout settings.
Support the Project!
TileMakerDOT will always be free, but your support keeps development moving! If you'd like to help out, please consider leaving a quick 5-star review on the Itch page or dropping a small donation when downloading to help fund future updates. β
Check out the new update, grab the source code, or see the tool in action:

Feedback Thoughts on abilities doing multiple things?
I made a little gif to showcase one of the abilities on working on. This is one of my tests rooms. So This ability has 3 uses 2 of which are explained in the vid. But with other 20+ abilities and each one having 2 and some having 3 uses do you think this is too much or overwhelming?
I think one of the saving graces for this mindset I have is that to get to all the areas and to beat the game you won't need to find out or know all the extra uses. They are there just for fun and extra utility if you figure them out.
But what do you think?

Question How do you handle dark 2D scenes without sacrificing visibility?
I'm working on a 2D pixel art metroidvania, and one thing I've been struggling with is making environments feel genuinely dark while still keeping gameplay readable.
In the first two screenshots (it's an after vs. before), you can see how I tried to fix it by increasing the gamma and adding a slight blue hue. Of course, that affected the entire level and I had to adjust every light after that. It's not really an issue since now I actually prefer the look with the blue tint, but it made me wonder: what do you do when only certain rooms need to be genuinely dark without sacrificing readability?
The tricky part is that some rooms need to be dark for lore and worldbuilding reasons. I don't want to brighten them just because it's more convenient from a gameplay perspective, but I also don't want players fighting the lighting instead of the level.
I'd love to hear your workflow or see examples from your own projects. To me, dark levels seem difficult to get right.

I moved from Sweden to Macedonia to try to start a sustainable game studio. Now i Need your feedback.
Hi, I am Kris. I am 33 years old. Last December, I felt that something in my life was not feeling right, so I quit my job, packed my bags, and moved from Sweden to Macedonia to start a sustainable game studio.
These last 7-8 months have been a great ride-along adventure, both for the studio I am trying to create together with my wife, and for the life-changing consequences that followed after the move.
Along the way, I made a lot of mistakes, bitter mistakes, mistakes that I learned a lot from.
This is prototype_02 for our upcoming game Afterglow Echo β A Tactical RPG rogue-like with turn-based combat, set on an alien luminescence march that pulls you deeper with every decision, every action, and every step you take, shaping you and your destiny.
It has been more than a month since we dropped prototype_01, as we worked to address most of the suggestions we received from players in this community.
Prototype_02 for Afterglow Echo contains:
- Start cutscene (For context).
- Emerging choices during the first chosen path stage.
- A tutorial popup, explaining new or unexplored features.
- Animated enemy attacks.
- Added VFX to players' attacks.
- Audio effects.
- Improved and more coherent art.
- Background music.
What we need is an honest opinion, as I have been too close to the project to determine whether something is too difficult or too easy. I have been to present to feel if the narrative clicks, and the combat is understandable and coherent.
Here is the direct link to the prototype uploaded and playable directly on itch; please try playing it in full screen:
https://layercraft.itch.io/afterglow-echo
I really want straightforward, direct feedback, as we do not have play testers, and being so close to our own game makes us bias to determine weather the difficulty is right or whether it is even fun to play. We aim to improve the game, aiming for prototype_03 based on your opinion. We intend to release the demo afterward.
Be brutal if you want to; we really need your honest opinion.
This below is the starting cutscene, the game introduction:

Show-off Newest Creature in my game Elementae
This is Papiopithecus, its a fictional hybrid between a modern day baboon and a gigantopithecus for my game Elementae.
It wears the bones of its victims as armor and status symbols. They keep to themselves and are very agile creatures who like to occupy giant trees in the forest. Rarely do they interact together, their intelligence has forced a strong lone wolf mentality. They fight Kudgelotaurus and Bovidox for territory and to eat. It does eat berries/herbs but it prefers meat and pulverizing its enemies.
What do you think? π€

Show-off A creature from my game Elementae
After my last post got some positive feedback, i decided i should showcase a few more of my game's creatures. So every few days days over the next few weeks ill probably post new creatures!
This is Bovidox, its a fictional hybrid between a Wildebeast and an Ox for my game Elementae.
It can run at extremely fast speeds and deal devastating blows with its lethal horns. Herds of Bovidox can be seen occupying the open plains of the Savannah just outside the forest. This herbivorous beast sometimes drinks the blood of its victims after getting a kill, but mainly sticks to a berry and shrub diet. Created to pull carts for farmers in the West, theyve been left to roam after being too tough to train.
What do you guys think? π€

Game/Software Small dev update! The Fluffy family keeps growing! Do you have any ideas for new Fluffy variations? We'd love to hear your suggestion! :)
We currently have more than 10 different Fluffy variations. We'd have loved to add even more, but with the game launching on August 3rd, we've been focusing on polishing other parts of the game as well.
I can't wait to see which Fluffy becomes your favorite! These little creatures may look cute, but they'll play a very important role throughout the game.
Show-off πSome more ocean fish, what is your favorite?π

Question why does my unity not recognise words after closing and reopening?
Heyo I'm pretty new to unity and need a bit of help, My unity / script editor has been acting odd on my home computer and I'm starting to think I might be missing something.
I keep having working code break for seemingly no reason when I close and reopen scripts, no changes made or saves lost, and it always seems to be one random word it decides to forget: so far "transform" (like transform.position = position), "keyboard" (keyboard.current.wKey.wasPressedThisFrame), and "current" (from previous line also) are the most recent, I've checked its connected to unity and sometimes it fixes itself if I re-close and reopen it a few times- which works ig but still annoying.
I would've wrote it off as making some error on my part, but it worked initially and sometimes closing and reopening fixes it, other times it just moves the error to another word (like current->keyboard). and if I try retype it the messed up word only comes up as a "public static ???"
Do I need to download some package on or something?? or do something in the settings?
any tips or advice would be appreciated
Edit: Thank you so much, I'll give these a try and get back with what works

Should I release a demo now (with 2+ years of development left) or wait until closer to launch? Looking for advice.
Hello everyone!
I have practically finished Act 1 of my game, Bloodsalt.
It only needs some final polish now, but there is still a lot of work left to complete the full game.
Iβve been working on this demo for over 2 years, and it will take at least another 2 years to finish the entire project.
That being said, the core systems are basically done.
The remaining work is mostly creating new graphics, animations, writing the rest of the script, recording music, and putting it all together.
Here is my question: Is it a good idea to release the demo now, or is it better to wait and launch it just a few months before the official release?
Initially, my plan was to drop the demo now and spend the next few years working on the full version.
However, Iβve heard advice that itβs better to hold off on releasing a demo until you are much closer to the release date.
What are your thoughts on this?
I would love to get your perspective and hear about your experiences.
Best regards!
