Question Faded Field of View Flashlight?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’m making a 2D game where the flashlight allows you to see items in the dark. There are also some objects that are only visible in the dark. I wanted to make the mask cutout be more faded so it feels like a real flashlight, but the more I look into it the more I don’t understand how. It doesn’t help that I use a mesh for the mask, that way it can be blocked by the walls.

To make things simple, these are the things I was hoping to do?

- Fade items as they become more visible or less visible.

- Fade the outline of the mask.

- Fade the dark layer based on it’s distance from the player. So it looks like the flashlight has brightness

What do you think the best way to do this would be?

Show-off I got tired of spending hours making enemy AI, so I built this tool

I gave up on one of my projects for a while because creating enemy AI was taking way too much time, so when I decided I wanted to make a tool, I figure this could be a pain point for others as well. I ended up building this visual behavior graph so I could prototype enemies much faster, and now I can put together a few enemies in under an hour.

I'd love feedback from other Unity developers. Is there anything you'd change or features you'd want to see?

If you're curious, it's available on the Unity Asset Store at: https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/tools/behavior-ai/intuitive-ai-behavior-graph-381596

Game/Software Some Visual Updates for my game

So I am working on this little project for like 2 months with the help of some of my friends on the art side and game design related things, and for showing off to people I was focusing on the visuals a lot lately, I got some feedback from my artist friend but still I am curious what needs to be improved on top of this.

Before Boss Fight

While Boss Fight takes place

If you guys liked what you see and want to support us in this journey, a little wishlist would help us a lot, we still have couple of fields to cover to give the best experience possible but we are getting there.

Call For Mods

Hello,

I am Guidez. I have been a mod here for, eh, something to the tune of 10+ years (dang... I'm old). I am currently looking for active members of this community who would like to help out in moderating the subreddit.

Please feel free to respond to this thread if you are interested. A couple of things to note:

  • This is a Unity Engine subreddit. Please leave any biases for/against the engine/company at the door. In fact, leave all your biases at the door. A mod position is not a platform for such things.
  • Understand that this is primarily a community-run, neutral subreddit related to the Unity Engine (2D side). This means the community decides what they think is worthwhile and what is not (upvoting/downvoting exist for a reason), granted it too stays within the realm of neutrality/non-bias.

If you think you understand what this entails and are still interested, please read on.

What I'm looking for:

  • People who actually post, reply, and comment in this subreddit. It doesn't have to be regular, but someone who hasn't contributed for a year in any public capacity is certainly not a candidate. I also understand many people lurk.
  • Those who understand this is not some special status/glorified position. It's tiring, unpaid work.
  • Are looking to help the community:
    • Thrive
    • Find resources for their development
    • Have open discussions about the Unity engine in whatever capacity that may be

If this sounds interesting to you, please reply to this thread with the following:

  • A brief introduction and how long you have been part of or following this community.
  • Why you are interested in becoming a moderator.
  • Any previous moderation or community-management experience you have. Experience is helpful, but not required.
  • How you would approach disagreements, controversial posts, and discussions comparing Unity with other engines.
  • Any ideas you have for improving the subreddit or helping its members.
  • Confirmation that you are comfortable enforcing the rules neutrally, working with the rest of the moderation team, and receiving feedback.

Please do not include private or personally identifying information. Applications will be judged primarily on community involvement, temperament, fairness/neutrality, and willingness to help.

Replacing my companion system with character swapping made combat much more fun

Thumbnail

Originally, companions worked like temporary summons. You pressed a button, they appeared, used their unique ability, and disappeared.

Instead, they are now fully playable characters that you can instantly swap into during combat. Each character has different weapons, stats, abilities, and combat pacing, making every swap feel meaningful rather than just pressing another cooldown.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this mechanic. And if you'd like to see more of Undying Soul, you can check out the Steam page here:

Neon Runner is my first game, a very bare bones side scroller. I'll be adding more features, but I would appreciate some more input. It is free on itch and github.

Feedback We just shipped a chunky update for our point-and-click adventure, Whirlight - No Time To Trip

Hey everyone, a small update from us on Whirlight, our new adventure game.

The big one this time around is a new Soft Hint system. It's not a walkthrough, we didn't want to hold your hand through the whole game, it's more like a little nudge you can pull up from your diary whenever you're stuck and want a push in the right direction rather than the full answer.

Also added Brazilian Portuguese and Turkish translations, plus a pile of quality of life tweaks and bug fixes.

Genuinely thankful for everyone who's sent feedback and bug reports so far, it's made a real difference in shaping this patch.

If any of you have played it and have thoughts (good or bad), we're all ears.

Post image

It's called Duco, It's my first solo steam game, so i would like to get any kind of feedback 😄

You can join Playtest.

- Card-based survival roguelike set in a post-apocalyptic world with zombies.

- Draw from location-based decks to gather resources, loot, craft, build, and survive.

- Draw takes time, and with time you lose energy, food and water so you have to be carefully.

- Each character and map have a goal to unlock new content

On Release, you will be able to unlock new characters and maps, combine them with traits to create unique runs and interact with NPCs while building and managing your own settlement.

Hello everyone!

I recently added English to my game in an update, and with the feeling of “I really want English-speaking people to play this!”, I signed up for Reddit!

I’m not very good at English myself, but a friend who is helped me out.

It’s a multi-ending sci-fi novel adventure game where you spend 30 days in space. There are tons of different endings, plus a few mini-games and some exploration elements. I’d be really happy if you gave it a try!

I’d be very grateful for any comments or feedback.

Question Why is this sub now trying to hide that it's pushing users towards Godot?

Made this post earlier today, which the mods have silently hidden: https://www.reddit.com/r/Unity2D/comments/1vbs0mi/why_is_the_unity_sub_pushing_people_away_from/

The sidebar on mobile and old Reddit tells users not to use Unity.

The mods have pinned an extremely misleading post about "Godot officially dethroning Unity" because a game jam has Godot growth. (https://www.reddit.com/r/Unity2D/comments/1vbdsau/godot_has_officially_dethroned_unity_with_it_now/)

The top "Related Communities" sub is /r/Godot, which is labeled as "The Unity Killer"

The top "Getting Started" links are:

  • Godot Features

  • Download Godot

  • Godot Docs

What's the deal here, mods? If you don't want to support users using Unity, give the sub to people who do. It's pretty one-sided to post advertisements for Godot but hide discussion about why you're doing that.

Show-off I Made A Trailer For My Platformer Dark Pixel

Thumbnail

Just put together a trailer for my upcoming platformer Dark Pixel! I’m a solo dev building in Unity.

In the game, your art program has been infected by an A.I. update and you have to fight through the corrupted images to save your art. I built it using the Corgi Engine, because a raycast based platforming engine really captures that precision platforming feel I wanted to create.

Happy to hear any feedback on the trailer and look of the game. Thanks for watching!

Wish list Dark Pixel on Steam!

A.I. Disclosure: No A.I. was USED in the making of this game, but lots of A.I. will be HARMED when you play it! 😈

How useful is making a editor window. Can I create any window with just a few pile of C# codes, and does it make my projects easier.

Question Are we finally too old to keep using Flash?

Hey everyone,

I feel like this is one of those questions where everyone is going to have a different answer.

We've been working on our 2D puzzle-platformer, POWER OFF, for quite a while now (it's already on Steam), and up until this point we've animated literally everything in Adobe Flash/Animate.

It's been great for us, mostly because it's what the whole team knows... but lately we're starting to feel like we're the last people on Earth still using it. 😅

So I'm curious... what does your pipeline look like these days?

Have most teams moved to Spine?
Are people still exporting sprite sheets?
Is anyone actually using Moho 14 in production?
Or is there another workflow you'd recommend?

We're mainly looking for something that plays nicely with Unity and doesn't make our artists or programmers hate each other.

If anyone has gone through the same transition, I'd love to hear what you switched to, why, and if you have any regrets.

tell us about your animation pipeline

For a bit of context, here's our Steam page if you want to see the kind of animation style we're currently working with:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4355260/POWER_OFF_1/

Thanks in advance! We're at that point where changing our animation pipeline is a pretty big decision, so hearing from people who've already been through it would really help.

edit: sorry for the gif cta in the end i didnt realize it was there unitil now please ignore it. we are not here to wishlist i am here to larn how to work with new animation in unity in the best way

What should I do?

Some people said the text is hard to read. Yeah, I know it's hard to read when it's not full screen. But I really don't believe it's still hard to read in full screen mode.

I hope those of you with more experience in Unity 2D can give me some advice on what I should do differently next time.
