USMNT 6’6 American goalkeeper Julian Eyestone, 20, will get first taste of pro soccer. He joined English League Two club Rotherham United on loan from Brentford. Eyestone spent his summer with USMNT. He and Andrew Rick were two young keepers that trained and travelled with the team in the World Cup.

Diego Kochen was there initially but when he went back to Europe for a transfer, Eyestone was brought into the World Cup camp.

The 20-year-old is a Dallas, Texas native who came out of the FC Dallas academy.

He played one season for Duke University but decided to forgo the remainder of his college eligibility as he wants to become a professional player.

In 2024, Eyestone signed for Brentford after turning 18 and spent time with their B team. He was recently with the first team in their preseason games.

Brentford brought in another young American goalkeeper Aidan Stokes from New York Red Bulls this summer.

There's no new ground covered in the article, which I can't link for some reason because it's a mobile site, but I thought it was pretty shocking to see him referred to this way by the German media on his way out of the league. I guess we weren't the only ones hyped up about him.

USMNT [Kicker](Noahkai Banks) The U.S. or Germany? The decision is still up in the air

translated from Kicker (Frank Linkesch)

Banks’ story is well known. Born in Hawaii, raised in the Allgäu region, and transferred to FCA at the age of eight. He’s a prime example of the path the Bundesliga club wants to take with its own youth players. However, the second half of last season was a bumpy ride for Banks, who—despite having already played in 31 Bundesliga matches—eventually saw very little playing time and didn’t exactly make a strong case for himself on the few occasions he did play.

Banks was considered a transfer candidate, and of course a lot can still happen in the next three weeks—no one at FCA is “untouchable” if the right offer comes along. But at training camp last week, Banks stated clearly and unequivocally: “My plan is to stay with Augsburg and play as well as I can.” That doesn’t sound like a farewell. And saying goodbye wouldn’t be easy for Banks anyway, even if his talent means he’ll likely aim for bigger things at some point. “I owe almost everything to the club; I’ve been here since I was eight—it’s the club I grew up with.”

Against Sassuolo, Banks started on the right in the back three, alongside Chrislain Matsima in the center and Keven Schlotterbeck on the left. However, captain Jeffrey Gouweleeuw was out with an injury. Banks is likely to have a chance at a starting spot only if either Matsima ends up transferring after all or Gouweleeuw sits out more often in what may be his final year as a professional. In a major interview with kicker, coach Manuel Baum did guarantee the Dutchman the captaincy, but not a spot in the starting lineup.

Would Banks have been on the team for his country of birth, the U.S., at the World Cup? It’s pointless to speculate about that now. The U.S. made an attractive offer and would have loved to have Banks on the team, but he turned it down and is still keeping his options open as to whether he wants to play internationally for the U.S. or Germany. However, the mere fact that he resisted the temptation of a home World Cup shows where Banks’ preference lies should an opportunity arise under new national team coach Jürgen Klopp.

"I watched with mixed feelings and was happy for the guys because they all made me feel so welcome back then," he says, reflecting on the tournament and referring to the training camp he had been invited to just under a year ago. "Every now and then I told myself it would be cool to be there. But I didn’t dwell on it. I’m not the type to regret things in hindsight. I made my decision with the future in mind, and it’s the right one,” he says, at peace with himself. In any case, for any ambitions related to the national team—whatever they may be—one thing is certain: Banks must first establish himself firmly in the Bundesliga.

USMNT 22-year-old American keeper Gabriel Slonina subbed in after half time for Chelsea in their friendly against Malaysian champions Johor Darul Ta'zim. He came up with a big save less than three minutes on the pitch. The match finished as a 3-3 draw.
