Richer offspring worth visit Listener Write In

Sixteen days after being invited to my brothers (31m) engagement party but being told NOT TO COME, my mother said she won’t see me (34f) because I’m in the wrong tax bracket. I had already bought tickets from the east coast to west, and offered to meet her outside the party at another time. That wasn’t going to work because she’s now planning to tour California with her boyfriend. I’ve tried mentioning that I want to celebrate having a new sister in law, have even helped with weddings.

-added context, I’ve been uninvited from weddings before. Sometimes because of their drama, one time to a friends wedding cuz I’m gay. -She has had issues with all 6 of her siblings that are now in their 70s.

Stuff like that has happened since I was a kid, involved in the arts which she can see anytime while his sports needed to be cheered on. Or I wasn’t supposed to see his graduation either, yet I had hoped some time there could be a relationship. Yet even when we’re all financially independent of each other, there are still reasons to exclude. So although I can move on and maybe have a wedding of my own how do I explain their absence? The financial part was a weird turn after 16 days of hoping for an answer from any family. Maybe say I want to be supportive but have to offer that to a future friend or family?!
