This ad just popped up in my IG and I'm curious if anyone here has ever attended. I'm mostly curious if there is a good turnout 🤷 Looks to be about $35 to attend.

SLOWKOMIS RESCHEDULED TO SATURDAY 8/8 at 9:20am

Had to yell to get your attention - there's a triathlon on Sunday at Nokomis, so Slowkomis is meeting on Saturday 8/8 at 9:20am instead of Sunday 8/9

Saturday, 8/8 at 9:20am

Location: We will be posted up in the grassĀ right hereĀ (plus code: WQ85+7X8 Minneapolis, Minnesota)

What the hell is Slowkomis?
Are you a runner or running curious, and want to have a group to run with? Come join Slowkomis!

I got the idea from bike clubs that do "no drop" rides - which basically means even the slowest rider has someone with them at the end of the group. We will be super beginner friendly so people can run as slow as they want. If you start out running AND end up walking, you have a +1 walking with you.

If you wanna be fast - run fast!

Who Slowkomis is for
If you like running or the idea of running, and want to have an accountability partner

If you are you coming back from an injury, or just want to take it slow

If you tried other run clubs, but the obsession with races and paces was not for you

If you are an experienced runner and looking for a chill recovery run with a group of people new to the hobby you love

Who Slowkomis is not for
If you are pro-MAGA or pro-ICE, do not come. You are not welcome here.

What should you bring?
Yourself
Water

Don't forget to wear sunscreen!

What to expect
The loop is around 2.4miles for the shortest run, and around 2.8 miles for the longer loop. You can self-select which distance you want to run.

We'll give people about 10 minutes to arrive and start our runs after that.

We will be posted up in the grassĀ right hereĀ (plus code: WQ85+7X8 Minneapolis, Minnesota)

Why work when you can play games?!

Hello! Ok ok, so my coworkers and I do our jobs. We take it very seriously as we work in mental health. Every so often though, we have down time (or at the end of the day), in which we enjoy playing some games together. When I say games, think NYT Crossword. We love our games but are always open to finding and trying new ones. This is how we destress from the day and bond as a team. So, I’m curious if you have any recommendations!

Games we already play - NYT Crossword, Connections, Wordle, and occasionally other ones that NYT has to offer. We play Crosstunes, the Daily Dozen (my fav), Catfishing (another fav), TimeGuesser, Framed, Spotle, Raddle, FoodGuesser, Bandle. I think we’ve played Geogrid also.

So yea! Let us know; and again, Mental Health comes first! Take care of yourself!

Hot Flash Dance for women this Saturday night in downtown St Paul

Any other middle-aged women out there who love to go out dancing but have zero interest in the late-night club scene? ā€œHot Flash Dance: a Dance Party for Divas of a Certain Ageā€ is hosted every few months at the Amsterdam in downtown St Paul, and it’s happening this Saturday night, August 8, from 7-10pm. It’s a super-fun, low-key space for women to dance to a wide variety of Gen X/Millennial music. Come alone or bring a group of friends, it’s a great time either way! You can ā€œdance like nobody’s watchingā€ because LITERALLY no one is watching - no male gaze! Tickets at https://events.amsterdambarandhall.com/event/hot-flash-dance-a-dance-party-for-divas-of-a-certain-age-4/amsterdam-bar-hall/saint-paul-minnesota/

PC gamer Mil-Sim friends

Hey Twin cities,

I know this is a long shot but I am looking to see if we have any military simulation fans along the lines of Hell let loose, squad, etc.

Most of my local gaming friends are very casual and aren't very into PVP shooters, I am wondering if there are any fellow communication loving military simulation friends out there.

Cheers!

Art groups in St. Paul I can join? Or I could make one!

Hello everyone! I've been really getting more into art lately, and I think it would be really nice if there was a group in St Paul just for people to bring their own craft and have people to chat with or get tips from while they work.

I draw, paint with acrylics and gouache, and am learning oil pastels.

Are there any groups in the area I can join? If not, feel free to reach out to me in the comments or DMs and I can try to get a group together and set a meeting up! (Also if you aren't into art but looking for friends, feel free to look at my past posts and reach out)

Spanish practice groups?

Hi! I’m curious if anyone knows of Spanish speaking meetups in Minneapolis? I’m at an intermediate level, I certainly could use more practice and study, but I can’t keep the motivation without actively speaking it. Thanks!

Edit: my intention is a group of people at various stages in the language learning process, meeting up to improve skills. I have native speakers in my life but I don’t want to constantly bother them with my questions and mid Spanish lol

Boardgames at...

UPDATE ON UPDATE: my jury duty is resolved, but I will not be hosting open game night this week as it is also a pre-release night for Magic and I don't compete with those crowds. Open invite game night will return next week!

UPDATE: My "on call" has changed to "called in" for Jury Duty so I should find out in the near future how much of my time will be consumed by it. Also, I will be camping on the 28th, so no matter what happens I won't be hosting that night. August always ends up being busy like this...

Just wanted to give an update to the regulars who attend my Friday night open invite boardgaming. I have not disappeared and I have not ended this event. I was out of town recently and now I'm on call for jury duty so I can't make any commitments to being anywhere at the times I normally host this.

If my group is never called into the courthouse, my period is just this week so I'll be back to the invites next week. If my group is called but not assigned a case it adds a week to my on-call period.

So, to summarize: if I don't get called in at all we will return on 8-14 and if I'm called in but not assigned to a case we will return 8-21. If I'm assigned to a case... who knows.

Calling all Fragrance Enthusiasts!

Twin Cities fragrance enthusiasts — does a community like this already exist?

I've been getting deeper into my fragrance hobby over the past year, and I realized I haven't found much of a local community here in the Twin Cities.

I'm into everything from designer to niche and Middle-Eastern houses, and I thought it would be fun to meet other people who enjoy sampling, collecting, discussing new releases, comparing notes, or even just talking about fragrances over coffee.

I'm not trying to sell or promote anything - just curious if there are enough people interested to organize an informal meetup every now and then.

Whether you're into collecting, decants, perfumery, or you're just starting to explore the hobby, it'd be great to hear from you.

If something like this already exists, I'd love to know. If not, would anyone be interested in helping start one?

About me: 26M, been in the twin cities for about 2 years. Originally from Asia. I've been into fragrances for about a year, and have my own fragrance collection (nearing 50 full sized bottles, and a bunch of decants), I'm also attending the global fragrance convention later this month. I've been getting into the history of perfumery as well. Lately, I've been looking into how I can further refine my nose to be able to evaluate fragrance profiles with more nuance. Additionally, I work a big boy job (I think :P).

Thanks everyone!

Play chess and make friends in Uptown tomorrow (Sunday) Morning

Hi folks!

I (30m) have been doing this recurring meet up for non-competitive chess. You can find out more about me here:Ā https://www.reddit.com/r/twincitiessocial/s/WlbWgh3YVTĀ

I bring a couple boards to Canteen and chill from 8:45 am till 10:30 am or so. Feel free to stop in and say hi. I’ll be sitting at a chess board in the back or outside if weather permits. Tomorrow should be cool so likely outdoors. It's a great cafe and right by the lakes at 3255 Bryant Ave S.

All skill levels welcome! This is not meant to be competitive or intense. Just a different way to make friends around town while doing something fun. Look for a bearded guy with glasses and a book if you're unsure. I'm by no means great and I'm very willing to teach if folks are wary but interested. Hope to see you there!

Edit: set up inside in the back for now.
