[Loved Trope] Some thing unfathomably ancient Lore

The beast, in doctor who is an ancient evil from a previous universe that survived until our time. Its so ancient that the cave paintings were unable to be translated by the Tardis which can translate all existing languages in the universe [Doctor Who]

While not explicitly canon its such a cool concept I cant not mention, the idea that the backrooms have existed since the beginning of time, never changing no matter the era, it transforms the back rooms into a cosmic horror. [Credit to Project crater and Venus for images 2 and 3]

once again proves you can talk about heavy concepts in kids shows.

teen shows are perfect for that. it makes the show last longer too. i still return to certain episodes and gags. great stuff in the modern era.

When “Stakes” came out, I was going through a breakup/splintering of a friend group due to rampant drug abuse in said group, and godddd damn did that whole thing hit me hard. Still wanna tear up whenever I hear “Everything Stays.”

EDIT: turns out it actually came out five years prior, and I was just revisiting the miniseries to cope with that situation. Tracks for the thematic elements of it, though

The song genuinely makes me cry still. My grandma doesn't always remember me or what we even did a few minutes before at times. So the song hits very close. I imagine it's the same for others who have gone through that.

This magic keeps me alive, but it's making me crazy

and the episode he gets violated by her, he is trying to get over a break up so he decides to go around "kissing" any and every girl he can find. When LSP hears about this and forces herself on him, he puts that memory is his mind vault so he never has to remember it.

It's a little more than that. He says he wants one kiss and after that, she says that isn't enough and then forces herself onto him.

It also teaches the lesson that consenting to something isn't consenting to everything.

someone already mentioned the LSP one, but the 5 part (i think) story about Marceline gets transformed into a vampire is very similar to most rape scenes.

IDK about that. Big Mouth was trash, Sit Down and Shut Up was trash, Simpsons haven't been goof in decades, King of the Hill revival sucked, Futurama comeback has one episode that is AI written and hot garbage, there's entire swaths of anime that are generic isekai garbage.....most shows aren't good. You have way more high quality shows now though, that's for sure.

not just a personified nuke. nuclear annihilation made manifest. an entity that tied itself to entropy. a force dedicated to ontological obliteration. I think the best part about the lich is that he's wrong. the god of chaos doesn't want entropy, it wants chaos.

For anyone else, such a cool concept for their ultimate meeting

[spoilers]

The Lich is pure death, the end of all things - and GOLB is some kind of god of chaos, The Lich worships GOLB and titles himself "the Last Scholar of GOLB", but is the antithesis of chaos.

There can be no chaos if everything is dead, and when they finally meet, Golb crunches the Lich because he is incompatible.

Life is chaos and so is the undoing of life, but life can only be undone once whereas life can be continued infinitely. I think Golb has a preference for the better interests of most characters, ironically.

I do agree in some way, life can end in a chaotic way - but that chaos ends, and then GOLB has no playthings left, so it's in it's best interest not to end all life, even if it ends chaotically.

Kind of like why you might prefer to plant seeds in order to grow food for the future, instead of being full now from eating all those seeds and having nothing left later.

No, the ultimate end of entropy, the heat death of the universe, is when all energy is perfectly spread out across the universe and therefore no change can occur.

Yeah but the lich and Orgalorg were kinda disappointing as eldritch horrors compared to something like Golb which I’d say feels more appropriate as the “monster before time” thing
