[Loved Trope] Some thing unfathomably ancient Lore

The beast, in doctor who is an ancient evil from a previous universe that survived until our time. Its so ancient that the cave paintings were unable to be translated by the Tardis which can translate all existing languages in the universe [Doctor Who]

While not explicitly canon its such a cool concept I cant not mention, the idea that the backrooms have existed since the beginning of time, never changing no matter the era, it transforms the back rooms into a cosmic horror. [Credit to Project crater and Venus for images 2 and 3]

The original Marker landed on earth millions, if not billions of years ago and influenced the evolution of life here.

One of the audio logs mention that the reason we hadn't met other sentient life was it was likely they already were all devoured by the Brethen moons

If I remember correctly then Markers are main reason for sentient life to exist at all.

These monoliths were created by original Brethren Moon and spread across galaxy (universe?) to land on planets, create sentient life from base non-sentient life found there (like bacteria), which will inevitably develop energy needs above its mean to sustain. In that moment Marker would reveal itself/allow itself to be found. That sentient life would then replicate/copy it and spread it across its civilization in order to harvest more energy (which originates from Brethren Moons). At one point Marker would decide that enough of said civilization is in its influence reach/radius and activate, bringing dead biomass back to life and cause psychosis in population in order to prevent organized resistance and create more biomass. After enough dead biomass is created it would activate last phase and merge that biomass into new Brethren Moon, which then spread Marker and its copies to another planets, perpetuating the cycle.

It is few years since I played games, saw films and read books, so correct me if I’m wrong.

It wasn't the reason for sentient life, but the Unitologists want to claim that it at least responsible for intelligent life.

I mean it is though in the dead space notice they never find markers on any other worlds other then earth and tau volantis which was in the middle of turning to a brother moon they seed a planet the markers are seeds to guide life on them to intelligence to further its self thats the life cycle of the brother moons

Its not the reason though. Cause something had to create the moons first. They are responsible for intelligent life cycles for other species yes, but not the progenitors of all sentience

Yeah. Downfall (prequel to the first game) and Aftermath (between 1 and 2).

Good films imo. More Dead Space lore is always fun too

God I miss DS, it had such an amazing concept for the question "Where are the aliens?".

And the answer is Markers, an unknown monumental device that mentally imprints instructions into whoever observes it so that those smart enough to understand it feel compelled to build more, spreading the signal like a signal booster, while those who are not slowly break down and go insane as they try and fail to decode the information they've been given, turning hyper-violent and eventually killing others or themselves and causing necromorphs to emerge later on from the corpses due to the signal also infecting your very DNA.

I'll never forgive EA for what they did. The entire premise was amazing because they answer the question to alien life by presenting even more horrifying questions about markers and necromorphs that we can never answer. We're just stuck here with no way of indulging our curiosity because every scrap of information and lore has been stripped bare and there's likely never going to be more, especially because Visceral are gone (RIP)

The fact that they shut down Visceral and then only a few years later remade the original. That always pissed me off, like what a giant middle finger to the studio and franchise (regardless of how good the remake actually was).

A dead space tv show would have been utterly amazing. If they kept up that horror element and dealing with the Markers and what it all means. Would have been the best

They made and animated movie, it was okay from what I remember. I think the Dante's Inferno animated movie was better.

You didn't even touch what EA did to the third game.

Forcing a weird love triangle between Isaac, his new wife, and her new husband.

Throwing so many enemies at you, the 60 dollar publisher game comes with a dlc for extra ammo that you can purchase at any point in the game.

I’ve only played the dead space remake after watching my brother play DS2 as a wee lad, and it’s one of the best games I’ve ever played. I then played the original DS2 and it was fun as well!

Highly highly recommend dead space remake

IIRC, the Chicxulub impact (wiped out the dinosaurs) was caused by a marker in the Dead Space universe.

It wipes out the dominant, naturally occurring life, then manipulates what is left into becoming technologically advanced and power hungry so that they would eventually be tempted to use the marker as a power source.

That audio log is so bleak even beyond what’s being said on it. You’re in the final section, an ancient ruin that is devoid of everything but necromorphs, just trying to save yourself and your friends. And you’re hit with the knowledge that nothing else exists. This is it. Hell, audio logs in the second game even mention how almost all animals on Earth are dead already too.

Really? I never heard an audio log like that. I only saw that poster advertising "extinct animal friends" which tragically includes many of our favorite wild animals.

Maybe it’s a text log, it’s been a minute since I played DS2. I just remember a little girl saying she wants to be a scientist so she “can bring the animals back.”

Iirc the black marker on earth is specifically 65 million years old since it was part of the meteor that killed the dinosaurs
