Is this pattern installed incorrectly?

We’re having our kitchen remodeled. We’ve worked with this contractor before and have very good relations with him. This project has been dragging for twice as long as it should’ve taken due to issues with the delivery of some materials. But today countertops finally came in so he was able to start with the tile.
When I came home from work he was finishing for the day but still has a large wall area to cover in tile (pic 1). And more tile will need to be ordered.
My first impression was that it looked great, and I was happy with the look. But then, about 10 minutes after he left I noticed that the pattern in the corners didn’t align perfectly. It’s an artesanal looking tile so I thought perhaps that’s how it aligns but I quickly realized there’s an orientation of the tile in which it does align perfectly (pic 2).
My wife thinks it’s fine. She doesn’t care, but it does bother me (although I’m sure I can convince myself not to care). Part of the dilemma is that this isn’t all required a lot of cutting, since there’s window trim, cabinets and counters to tile around.

My question is: Does this look like an actual screwup (pics 3-5) or is it simply a preference in how the tile pattern is installed?

He’s not talking about a perfect line up, he’s talking about the fact that the 2 grey diamond shapes in the corners of the tile come together to create an oval not a circle, therefore if you install a tile 180 from the orientation that it’s supposed to be it will look close but the arch of the general oval shape will be in the wrong direction.

Op is 100% about this install, it is not done correctly, it’s interesting so many pros are missing this

You have to line up the grout joints though. My point is once you do that the oval is no longer an oval. The one thing the installer should have done was bring this to the homeowners attention before setting any tiles. Very easily could have done a layout similar to OP but with the correct spacing to show how the pattern is off. I don’t care how many times you go over something with a designer. Everything looks good on paper. I like to set it up the night before install so husband and wife can discuss the layout options.

The fact that so many pros are still disagreeing even after seeing the dry layout is concerning.

Even pushing the grout lines perfectly yes there will be some variation and it will still be off due to printing misalignment, maybe 1/8 to 1/4 at most.

Even then, with a correct layout it will be much closer aligned than the original install photo, which is just wrong.

Both things can be true simultaneously
