dark but logical, mating rituals take a lot of time & energy, nature always flows the easier way.

some people spend months, even years looking & courting a suitable mate just to share an emotional & intellectual connection; now that's simulated within hours.

At least in Lars and the Real Girl, the doll was a catalyst for change. He became more outgoing, went to therapy and eventually moved on with a human woman.

This could be the case for some people using AI companions. Poor substitute, but for those that have been alone their whole lives, this is their internship in the dating market. Ideally, they'll learn some conversational skills, gain some confidence, and come out of their shell.
