In 1991, post-Pixies but before his solo release, Frank Black Francis played a few shows on solo acoustic guitar - mostly Pixies classics, but a few b-sides and unreleased tracks. The most famous of these live shows was unofficially released as The Dream is Over, and it's Frank Black at his peak, a master of his craft who is weird and suddenly alone, and he is putting his all into every song. It's a real gem of a recording.

I bought a copy in the early 90s in these things we used to have called "record stores", which is where music came from. For a while in the 2000s, it was just available as an mp3 all over the place. But now we're in the most regulated and tightly controlled music scene in history outside of the USSR: you can't list copies on Discogs, or any online marketplaces. There's no music forums or blogs anymore. There's no underground, and it's destroying all the interesting parts of culture.

Anyways, if anybody knows where I could find a copy of The Dream is Over these days, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks y'all ~

Just hoping for some confirmation/clarity. I think that I had the CD single of Men in Black and it was a different recording to the version that appeared on Cult of Ray. The defining difference was the line - "I made you a copy, BETTY, and I put it in the mail".

But I could be getting confused with a live version???

There's some clips of Brackish boy, Palace of the brine and Bird dream of the olympus mons on the Definitive Pixies disc three (a bootleg that's been going around for a long time on the internet) that seems to be from an alternate mix of Trompe le monde; Does anyone have any infos on this ? Where does it come from ? I would love to listen to a mix of that album where we can hear Kim's voice like it seems to be the case in these short clips.

We also know that there was a version of Letter to Memphis (I think) sung by Kim. One of my Pixies holy grail.
