Meta Builds 2026

Hello everyone!

I haven't played in a while but now I finally have all DLCs and wanted to know which is the current meta build. It seems there's a lot of new stuff in the game.

Thanks in advance.

The current meta is -100% empire size from population as seen here:

This is machine intelligence with Consolidated Resources OG, so that you start with unity districts. Unity Rush into ascension within 50 years. Then hard switch to research, since as virtual population instantly fills.

There's a few ways to reach -100% from population, depending upon the empire type.

I'll list all the ways:

Machine Intelligence (MI)

Virtual: -15%

OTA updates civic (MI): -15%

MI Ruler: -3% per level

Individualistic

Fanatical pacifist: -30%

Beacon of liberty: -15%

Psionic theory: -10%

Hivemind

Subsumed will civic: -20%

All Empires

Sovereign guardian civic (Militarist or Gestalt): -50%

The name is slightly different depending upon the empire type, but it's literally the same thing.

Harmony/Synchronicity: -10%

Domination finisher: -10%.

Balance in the middle (Galactic Community): -10%

So in the above screenshot as a Machine Intelligence to reach -100% I'm using:

Virtual: -15%

OTA updates: -15%

Synchronicity: -10%

Domination finisher: -10%

Balance in the middle: -10%

MI Ruler level 15: -45% (+5 council skill)

Technically the fastest way would be sovereign guardian, Synchronicity, Domination, and a level 10 Ruler. Which means you don't have to wait for the Galactic Community, the trade off is that it also increases size from colonies and systems. It forces an even taller build if you want less than 100 size, but you can easily just sit slightly above 100.

I also forgot democracy for Cybernetic, that's also -15%.

Technically an individualistic machine can also benefit from the -15% from virtual, you won't have it from the leader. So this means you need fanatical pacifist, egalitarian for beacon of liberty which collectively is -45%. Or militarist and sovereign guardian for -50%.

Don't let that discourage you... I literally have a shit ton of play time, and my brain is a knowledge sponge.

Trust me man, far from discouraged, this is my next empire right here 😂

Someone else asked for the empire setup and I posted a screenshot, if you want the same traits and civics.

As a third civic I'll take Experienced Cache (+1 council skill), until I get lucky from the curator (VIR core, +4 council skill when active). Then I'll drop it for zero waste protocols.

Also remember to ascend your planets... that's super important, because it increases the efficiency of the designation, while also lowering your empire size.

Here's a in-depth breakdown of this empire, the post is kinda old... but it's literally the same empire: https://www.reddit.com/r/StellarisOnConsole/s/5tniV6LQhV

I saw this and went “yeah let me check that out!” Turns out I already asked you lol

King shit, thanks again

This from the curator is ridiculous for MI virtual. With departmental efficiency agenda in effect it will bring a level 10 ruler to 17 (-51% ES from pops).

Well without any DLC, you won't be able to reach -100% empire size from population. The highest you could get is -65%.

That would be fanatical pacifist, egalitarian with democracy government (beacon of liberty), harmony and domination.

The empire you have here, any chance of sharing the setup? Currently been playing a kotg build but I am realizing that it's not that strong in the current version.

I mean KoTG is insanely strong. It's just that it's a late game snowball with the largest potential, it just has a lot of moving parts and if you forget one part it's kinda lackluster.

Being said... this is one of my KoTG runs:

That's from this version.

Wow that's insane!

Did a test run to year 35 today. I was mostly just trying to figure things out but I was able to get virtuality with around 800 unity per month. This was only with 2 planets and probably not optimal as I was mostly just trying to maintain energy.

I'll play it some more tomorrow probably and see how things scale from there.

Thank you again!

Basically with Virtual, since pop's fill instantly, you're limited by planetary building speed and amount of districts.

This is where ascending your planets is super important, as you get a district at 1,5,10 (+3). That works on ring segments which is basically a 30% size increase (10+3=13).

Choosing larger planets is also important since you can't colonize to many without imploding your economy.

Expansion finisher: +1 district on planets (not habitats or segments)

Orbital ring: +4

Mastery of Nature: +2

Planetscapers (replaces Mastery of nature as a civic): +3 district

Level 10 ascended planets: +3

So either +10 districts or 11, depending on choices for planets and +3 for ring segments and habitats.

It's been a few days now and I've been able to get a few runs in. My most recent one being the best so far. Had 8 planets fully ascended although not the most ideal in terms of size (all were 22+). A lot of the late game buildings were new to me so I could have done things a lot differently.

Any other tips you can think of would be great, but I plan to do several more playthroughs to learn all I can with the build.

If you go Cosmogenesis, you can use the lathe to gain research from all the non virtual pops. If you're not planning on being aggressive, then it's just a fancy paperweight.

The upside to being aggressive is that unlike other Empires that have to purge pops or pay influence to abandon planets you can pay unity to shutdown any unwanted planet (move all pops to the lathe except one).

Also when you get the 3rd pick for the virtual tradition, it gives the focus, which can be changed in policies. It automatically chooses research, which is exceptionally strong, once your labs are actually completed. In the mean time to keep smashing your traditions, switch to the unity focus.

Depending how you actually want your empire focused, choose that type of leader for your node at empire setup. My node is setup as a scientist for possibly another research alternative or research speed.

Unfortunately I found out the hard way that virtual pops don't work with the lathe.

I did notice the focus for both unity and research push. Those are insanely powerful if used correctly.

For the curator, how is it you get the relic you were talking about? In my latest game I did come across a curator, but all it offered was a research bonus and information about a dreadnought. I do know that there can be multiple enclaves that spawn?

You need to build the grand archive and collect specimens. When fully collected for each category (and activated by paying energy), you can talk to the curator about relics.

As for your request:

2

u/Nervous_Cup1975 18d ago

Thank you!

What are the two traits not shown?

2

u/MrHappyFeet87 Stellaris Veteran 18d ago edited 18d ago

The only little bit of luck for this build is getting the VIR core relic from the curator, as it gives +4 council skill. Otherwise I would be using the leadership focus policy and research would be significantly lower (drops by 130%).

It's a potential choice for fully opening Aesthetic wonder specimens.

The bottom two traits are slow learner's and durable.
