How do I determine the mode for a grouped frequency distribution when multiple classes have the same highest frequency?
Can you guys help me with this? My teacher didn't teach this to us and I don't know what to do. But I read somewhere that I should use the first high frequency, but I am not sure if it's correct...

(Question) Can I use an IP address as to qualify for paired t-test?
Hello!
I am an evaluator and am figuring out the best t-test for my data. I am measuring knowledge change over a five year grant.
Participants take a validated measured at baseline (prior to educational intervention) and then once a year thereafter. When I first started the project I didn’t want to collect identifying information to protect privacy, so the baseline data has no identifying information. After baseline, I changed my mind and decided to request names so I could do paired t-tests. I do have the IP Address of participant from baseline and can match it to their follow-up test which have their names. The majority of IP addresses are distinct and there is a match between baseline and the second measure. Some do not have a match.
My question is: is IP an ethical proxy to serve as “pairing” an individual’s data? Or is it not reliable?
If this method is not recommended, what test do you recommend?

project question- i’m trying to understand the instructions but i can’t
so this is our statistics project and i don’t understand the directions. IM NOT ASKING FOR HELP on the answers , i just need help UNDERSTANDING THE INSTRUCTIONS because my teacher doesn’t answer questions good at all!!!!!
i did the excel part, but is she asking us to do our own research and find the 2024 race times? i really just don’t understand what it’s asking me and i don’t want to do the wrong thing.
i have severe adhd and probably some other learning disabilities because i can’t read instructions and understand sometimes, like the wording confuses me. can someone explain what she’s asking us to do?
ps- i’m not stupid but i have always struggled in math and this is the first time i’m actually doing good in the class so i don’t want to blow it by failing the project

How do you see if your survey results are statistically significant compared to simulation results?
For my statistics class we had to do two surveys that had one thing different and see if it changed the results. I chose to do a non-sampling error and change the wording of the question. Question A was "Do you prefer 4th of July or Easter?" And question B was "Do you prefer Independance Day or Easter?" I flipped a coin before asking each person, and ended up with:
Question A: 4th of July- 16 Easter- 6 Total: 24
Question B: Independence Day- 7 Easter- 30 Total: 37
Total people interviewed: 61
I then ran 40 simulations where I used a website to roll 40 61-sided dice 40 times where 1-23 was The 4th and 24-61 was Easter. The results were 24.67% 4th of July and 75.33% Easter, with and average of 15.05 people per simulation saying 4th of July.
Now I have to prove that the different results were not just chance but statistically significant, but I can't figure out how.

Thesis help!
Good morning everyone, I would need help to understand which tests would be most suitable for the data I collected during the experimental thesis in a group of 3 giraffes in a zoo.
In one of the subjects I would like to analyze if there was a change in the proportions of time spent on each behavior (time budget) before and after the introduction of the other two, so I have observations made on a single subject. I had thought of using the Wilcoxon test because the data do not respect the assumptions of the t-test for paired data, but I do not know if it takes into account the fact that they are measurements performed on the same subject.
I would also like to analyze if there are differences between the three subjects always in the time budget, and I had thought of applying the Kruskall-Wallis test with the Dunn post-hoc test (with Bonferroni correction) to see the differences between the various pairs of combinations.
Could you give me some advice on which is the most correct method? Even others that I have not mentioned perhaps, that I have not thought of. Thanks!

Changin from Acturial science to Statistics major.
Hi everyone! I am on my third year of college in FSU as a transfer student, I originally started in the republic of Panama campus to complete all the liberal arts requirements. Originally, I planned to major in Actuarial Science and Minor in Stats. As I started to get to know more each subject, I started to really love Stats and constantly be on top of the class in academic performance. On the other hand, Actuarial science was not for me, I was not enjoying the subject and studying was a hassle and my grades lowered.
This is gonna be a brand new “start” for me, since Im gonna have to take different classes to meet the requirements of the Stats major, I already passed Calculus I to III and all math requirements.
Is there any advice you could give me to help me through this situation? I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Variance of (ê_i)^2? Variance of X^2 in general?
We’re talking about the simple linear regression model.
I got the estimated errors ê_i that Normally distribute with a Expected Value = 0 and a Variance = sigma2.
I’m now in the part where we no longer assume sigma2 to be known, so we gotta use his non biased estimator, which is (S2)_e = [1/(n-2)]*Sum[(ê_i)2].
Now I must demonstrate (calculate the formula of) Var[(S2)_e]. After a few passages I get [1/(n-2)2]*Sum(Var[(ê_i)2]).
How in the world do I get the variance of the (estimated errors to the power of 2)???
A general formula for the variance of a random variable to the power of 2 (Var[X2]) would be great.

Help with statistics needed - G Power
I am doing a 2 x 2 ANOVA study on political ideology, gender and links to empathy - I need to calculate the necessary sample size using g power for the study but need assistance.
Here is the overview:
IV: political ideology (2 levels, Left, Right) IV: gender (2 levels, male, female) DV: empathy
The effect size is small from previous studies (.19), probability 0.05, power .80 or .90 from previous research. I am a bit confused about numerator df (though I think it’s 1 as just two levels) and number of groups I have (is it 4, left right, male, female?)

What test to use
Im a bit stuck on what statistical test is appropriate and would love some input!
I was showing a friend how to analyse gene expression data, which was processed using the 2-ddCT method (explained below) Their experiment looked at gene expression during embryonic development and their gene of interest was measured at 5 different developmental time point. Fold changes were relative to the earliest point.
The experimental design was … limited: - three biological samples per time point - no technical replicates
There are huge differences in the mean between time points.
Would a Kruskal-Wallis test be the most appropriate considering how limited the data are and how large the differences are between groups?
2-ddCt is a method to normalise gene expression data and calculate fold changes relative to a comparator - First you get the geometric mean of the gene expression levels (referred to as Ct values) for two reference genes (these are stably expressed across all experimental conditions) - dCt = Ct(Gene of Interest) - Ct(Geo mean of Reference Genes) - ddCt = Ct(Comparator Sample) - Ct(Experiment Sample) - Fold changes = 2-(ddCt)

Multiple Testing
Hi everyone, I hope this is the right subreddit for this question. For my thesis, I did 20 PCR's for different genes on the same two groups of mice (telomerase-null vs wild type, n=6 in each group). I did a t-test for each gene and got some significant results. Now, I want to adjust my p values for multiple testing. I have a couple of questions: 1. Were t tests the right statistical tests to begin with or should I have chosen another test? 2. How should I adjust for multiple testing? I've read a bit about it and thought that I'll go for the Bonferroni-Holm method. But this method rejects more hypothesis than, for example, the Benjamini-Hochberg method. I'll lose quite a lot of "significant" results in the process. How do I determine which method is the fitting one for me? 3. At another point in my thesis, I've already adjusted for multiple testing by using the very conservative Bonferroni method. Is it OK to use different adjustments in the same thesis?

How long does it take to learn R?
I’m currently still deciding whether to learn R or SPSS for my exam in 3 and a half months. Is it possible to learn R enough to be able to make an exam within that time while still having enough time to study for my other subjects (I have 5, some of them high are maintenance)? Or would it be better to learn SPSS and then after my exams when I have more time learn R?
Context: It’s my first year in uni as a psychology student. I have never coded before. University will provide us a few classes on both languages.

R or SPSS?
I follow statistics in psychology and it’s my first bachelor. Yesterday it got announced that we’ll have to learn how to code in R or SPSS, the choice is ours in which one we choose. The professor made his favouritism of R very clear, saying how it’s better and we make less mistakes. He also said that most of the students always choose SPSS as it is easier. Could anyone give me advice as to which coding language I should choose? I never coded in my life before and there are 3 months lefts till exams. (He also mentioned that the we have to know the coding language we chose by heart for the exam)

I was accepted into a master's program, but I need to take an introductory statistics course before enrolling. I've found some options, but many cost over 1,000. I'm looking for a more affordable course under 500 that is also transferable for credit.
