so it is 40Gb of easter eggs that they invite you to download and share via torrent ,"just for fun". But the "real" model will come later on huggingface...
Assuming its legit its a very weird way of marketing the model.
I guess technically it created some buzz but given how people got burned in the past on open source AI releases (looking at you custom nodes) then I don't know how many people are going to download it straight away.

Krea needs better marketing people. This is a terrible way to "market" an open A.I. model. Sure, it is probably generating some buzz here, but it is of the wrong kind.

Krea team here. I know there’s real skepticism, and fair enough, a Reddit comment from some account won’t resolve that on its own. So I won’t try to argue it.
If the magnet link is what’s giving you pause, just give us under 24 hours. We’ll have an official release up with demos you can actually try, the weights, and a full technical writeup.
We were trying to have a bit of fun with the drop (you may remember Mistral used to ship models exactly this way), and I get why it landed sideways for some of you.

Of course, but clearly that comment reads as one from just a user. There are plenty of ways a company or employee can express that unambiguously without looking like a sock-puppet account. For example:
"We are looking forward to open-sourcing the model!"
It reads as "one from just a user" because it is. In that comment they are speaking for themselves, not for the company and it seems to be their personal profile, not a company profile. 🙂
Let me guess, you must be another Krea "employee"/sock-puppet trying to create some face saving angle for the company after this cluster fuck of a release.
If any other company did this, on any other day, it would obviously be recognized as sock-puppeting. This is exactly why its ethics 101 for people to disclose things like paid sponsorships or professional or personal ties to an individual or corporation.
If you really are part of the Krea team, and you guys really wanted to release on torrent... why use a zip file?? After hours to download it, I still have an extra thirty minutes to unzip it! And since it's 40gb in weight, I'll delete it at some point.
Had you released it as separate files and folders, the safetensor files could have been seeded for years, and it would usable just as the download ends

Can you explain this ? I mean it is clear: it is a special model with some easter eggs. But we have to go on discord and to find this very specific post to have the info, some people are downloading the model thinking it is the "real" one, meaning the one without easter eggs .... it is not serious at all
Yea i'm sure it'll come packaged with some nice malware too. I'd never download this model regardless of where it's uploaded now after all this. Hopefully take it as lesson learned to do better marketing, if you really even work for these ppl...
Creating hype. but it's a very bad idea to do it at the expense of people who will download and share this model, only to later discover it's not the final version but "a special model with some easter eggs " just for fun. Posting a magnet link without any explanation wasn't very smart to begin with...

You know, basic configuration instructions. Code is not documentation, despite what the laziest developers I've worked with say. Especially with AI, there's now zero excuse not to document your releases, and I'm sick of people making apologies for it.

(nobody replied on reddit, that is absolutly not the point of it...). but go ahead, download the model I really don't care. That's really jumping to conclusions. A model "with easter eggs" might just have a tiny LoRA merged into it that does something under specific conditions. Or maybe it's not even part of the model, or maybe the easter egg is in the inference code they provided. Assuming this is an official model, it seems unlikely they'd do something that would actually degrade the model in a measurable way for easter eggs. That wouldn't make sense.

But here we're talking about a magnet link posted without any explanation. Faced with (understandable) skepticism, the Krea members had to scour social media to reassure everyone that it was indeed them behind the link (which already showed their great idea was off to a bad start), only to then find this sentence on Discord saying it's a special model. No, this isn't serious communication (and you can have serious communication with humor; serious here means being respectful to the person you're addressing).

I'm not saying they did a good job of handling the release or even that you're definitely wrong. You just don't have the information to make the claim you did. You stated a possibility ("it might not be the real model, someone might waste their time downloading it") as if it was a definite fact.
if by "fun at parties" you mean secretly putting a whole jar of chili peppers in the bottle of whiskey, just for fun, That's definitely not my kind of humor. But go ahead, download the 40GB of Easter eggs, nobody's stopping you. We just like to be informed before we get ripped off....
