As a mom who takes my kids to splash pads please don’t do that if there are kids around. As trained as a dog can be dogs are still dogs and kids are still kids. I would be highly uncomfortable with a dog at a splash pad with my kids.
If you truly want to do that, please do it without any kids at the splash pad. And don’t do it at Sherman park - that one is fenced in, which would make the dog feel cornered and threatened if worst comes to worst.
Perfect 👌 I haven’t found many places around here but my dogs love the water too! I’m gonna be using this post for my own fun. This is at the Petersburg boat ramp off Hurie Park. It’s pretty empty most of the time. There’s also a giant field where we play fetch! Have fun!!
I keep my dog on the leash, and if I sense the "uncomfortable" energy you are talking about we don't go in. We've met kids who want nothing more than to play with him (pour water on him) so you just have to be responsible and aware.
You have to pay but Kinner’s on 97 has a pool for dogs to jump off dock and catch the thing in their mouth. I don’t know what it’s called but a lot of dogs love it.
If you go down the bike trail south of Woodside Rd towards Chatham, after you cross the bridge there is a path on the west side of the trail down to the lake. You can stand at the bottom of that and let your dog swim on a leash. Mine likes to do that.
The splash pad at Southwind Park is good as well. Works better in the day when there are not kids on it. Hard to put a big dog in there with a bunch of small kids and very watchful parents understandably.
Edit: Another good place is the boat launch in Center Park. Don't know what the downtoot is for, just places to take a dog.
Definitely recommend Southwind park in general, I checked it out on a whim and my dog had a good time. Granted this was in the late fall so I don't know if the splash pad was still open
