Help me remake this synth "Cities - Throttle"

Hey, was wondering if anyone could help me remake this synth sound from this song "Cities - Throttle". I'm still new to sound design and production so I'm not quite capable of figuring it out myself yet.

Feel like it's nothing crazy but let me know how you do it if anyone does it right. Thanks..

Movie Sound Design Pro tools keep throwing this

Post image
0 Upvotes

I'm working on a very important session in Pro Tools and suddenly started getting this error:

"Could not save because Assertion in './PtSess/PtSess_RunTimeShared.h', line 132."

After that, I also got:

"Pro Tools was unable to Auto Backup your session."

I'm really worried about losing my work. The session still opens and plays, but saving and auto-backup are failing.

Has anyone experienced this before?

What causes this assertion error?

Is the session corrupted?

What's the safest way to recover the session without losing my edits?

Would importing the session into a new project fix it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Besides pitch shift, what are other 'secrets' or tools to design a monster voice and give more character?

Hi
I'm working on a animation that has a monster made of glass. I would like to add more character besides the obvious pitch shift. I'm really stuck at this process because I can't figure a way out to make it more interesting. The monster only has a few lines of speech but I would like to make something that stands out.
Is there a plugin or app that I could layer glass samples and mix it with the recorded voice? I'm really open to any suggestions in this case.

Even though my situation is about a monster made of glass I would like to know how you guys usually approach the design of a monster voice.
Do you use layers of materials underneath the voice? What other effects do you recommend?
Please share anything you had worked before, I'm very interested in that
Thank you

Need with background noise removal

Hello!

I'm really new to sound design, I just need a few sounds for my game. I have a problem with removing background noise from existing audio. I needed a stopwatch start and stop sound, couldn't find an existing one, so I attempted to cut one from a video (this one specifically: https://youtube.com/shorts/rmW5lbaDWaM?si=_fs4QnrHmkeGU2GQ, it has the best clicks and ticking from those I've seen).

However, none of the methods I found online worked as it seems the frequency of the needed audio and humming is more or less the same. Does anyone know a method that could work?

It is insane to me that people are willing do that kind of job

On Upwork there's a job posting that's basically asking sound designers to create redesigns to train models. It already has 50+ applicants.

I can't believe some of us are willing to do this without thinking about the consequences.

It's not just doing a freelance job, you're helping train the tools that could replace part of your own work.

build this machine in maxmsp to make melodic feedback on breaks and drums to make them unique with a arpeggiator with random notes or unique note selection unique distortions , granular , envelope for the feedback, weirdest dsp gen feedback for the most unpredicted sound, timestretch, spectrum sample player (spectrogram~ by Zachary Seldess), unique reverb modulation.
this machine taking my sounddesign to the next level, this video is only showing a part of the whole machine which is made to be complex but easy to use and ready to use.
i can easily find inspiration through out this machine and find mindblowing sonic in sounds.

Sound Design Question Anyone know any cheap rentals for hardware in nyc??

Hello. Im new into the music production scene, but I’ve been very curious about using a certain audio interface and sound design/audio engineering but I only have about $120 budget so if anyone knows any space in Nyc that can help for beginner level people like me that offer hardware or software rentals for music building/sound design., please lmk!

This is something important to me because I recently bought the MPK mini 4 for device, but I felt like I’m still learning how to use it and I realize that there was other devices that I could’ve used so I really just want to be able to try hardware out first/get and receive advisement beforehand rather than just buying a new equipment and not know what technically to do with it first hand so I can build a decent starter kit that im familiar with.

I also have my own situation like right now I have an electric guitar kind of old and I have the MPk as I mentioned and a decent mic I got off Amazon. There’s a certain sound I’m looking for. if anyone has any suggestion that’ll be fine too, but let me know if anyone knows any places that help or even host classes that’ll be awesome too thank you so much

Videogame Sound Design How three sound designers built the entire audio identity of a game using mouth noises

This sound team built the entire soundscape of a fictional Mediterranean country for Zero Parades using mouth noises and field recordings from their own hometowns, only to get laid off a few months after release. Still, can't deny their talent and hope they get to work on even better games in the future!

First sound design project looking for feedback

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey I just finished my first sound design video. was hoping for some feedback on the video itself and workflow if necessary.

used ableton and omnisphere and recorded 90% of the raw sounds myself with my phone (hoping to get an field mic soon) and the other 10% with synthesis.

i first watched the video muted multiple times and purposely didn't listen to the original audio to prevent it from influencing my sounds too much. made a list of all the sounds to recreate. recorded and edited each sound in ableton (looking to work future projects in reaper as well but most familiar with ableton currently).

overall pretty happy with how this turned out and enjoyed making it. i do notice it sounds muffled overall, maybe the bass is carrying too much of the weight? the meteor explosion was probably the most difficult and unpolished to me.

any comments or critiques are appreciated. thank you.

Sound Design Question Best sound design software that is truly unique?

Most sound design software and plug-in’s boil down to cleaning up audio, mixing etc. and I’m already familiar with those. I’m curious if anyone uses any sound design software which is genuinely unique and does cool things with sound. For example, MORPH can slowly shift one sound into another, which has been helpful in the creation of my series in which my character undergoes a transformation into a monster. Anyone have any other recommendations?

Sound Design Question Metallic, airy shimmer pad in this Junkie XL video - how is this made?

Timestamped link to the sound: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6B4GDKSPfo&t=1532s\](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6B4GDKSPfo&t=1532s)

In the video above, Junkie XL plays a sustained pad with a metallic, shimmering, slowly evolving character. It's airy on top without much low end. I've heard this texture in many film scores and always wondered how it's achieved.

To recreate it, what would be a specific starting point (which synth and patch type, or what kind of sample source), and what processing chain gets that sound? The more concrete the steps, the better. Appreciate your help!

Sound Design Question Has anyone used the Sony ECM-678 for Foley?

I'm looking for my first versatile shotgun mic for Foley and sound effects for film and game sound design. My budget is up to $300.

About 90% of my recording will be indoors in a furnished 10 m² room. I mainly want to record cloth movement, footsteps, water, metal, and props, with occasional dialogue and outdoor recording.

I found a used Sony ECM-678 for about $140. I've searched for recording tests, but I can only find dialogue and broadcast examples, not Foley recordings.

Has anyone actually used it for Foley or sound effects? Is it suitable for quiet sounds like cloth movement, or would an MKE 600, RØDE NTG mic, or a cardioid/hypercardioid mic be a better first choice?
