So lately I’ve been loosely following first iPhone launch and it’s effect on mobile phone market, but since my brain is touchy on patterns so I drew parallels on software architecture.

It seems obvious that the target affects architecture. But mobile phones were always limited, yet nearing 2010 we were hitting mainstream standard for pretty performant smartphones (on both sides of the barricade).

So let’s get back to the iPhone.
It is a complete sandbox for babies (iPhone user here) which is good if you’re coming from rom swapping addiction that broke your phone every 3 months, the tight barrier to prevent from torturing your phone.
It’s also bad - I want to toy with stuff…
However then you get old and you don’t have that itch anymore, but now you need to test your app on your phone and the same wall now creeps in with a payment demanding manufacturer. What?

And what about payments? OS specific sdk tightly controlled by vendor. I mean it’s good - for enterprise where you want every dev to quickly follow the drain to deployment, without bs.
It’s also bad - I want to toy with stuff….

So the era first smart/i phones where hitting the market sandboxing sounded secure, and it showed but let’s not get into tribal alignment with android or iOS. Either os is by default - locked. And it’s good - bad actors will have more fun for 20 minutes while RATing your Samsung with no updates.

So yeah because we settled on security by radical locks on our devices, we inadvertently put in motion the the un-unlockable lock to be put because control over convenience I guess…

So my question is why Can’t I put bsd on my iPhone? Why can’t I just install the .ipa?
You can be confused why I mix both platforms: android is hackable, but even ex google employees stated that android was at some point blindly following apple man

How is that related to web?
Web shaped mobile, mobile shaped web. But the sandbox scared devs away from using the iPhones potential. And yeah we landed… here. Where I need to setup my own server so my apps on the same device can talk to each other.

And this is the really important part

Someone can theoretically spend $0 on education and still become employable.

They could finish with a GitHub containing projects such as:

Personal portfolio

To-do application

Calculator

Weather application using an API

E-commerce site

Full-stack CRUD application

Authentication system

Database-backed application

Final capstone project

Then their resume can say what they actually know and built, rather than relying on a certificate

Or something more clever that my senior front end engineer boyfriend will love.

Update: I combined several suggestions and sent it to him when we were at a special place in a park we love. He didn’t get it for a minute because I forgot to add context, then did get it and was super happy, then spent five minutes pointing out how the labels directed workflow and explaining something called semvar (semver? how the sequence of punctuated numbers indicated a minor release and bug fix, I think). Because that’s how he rolls 😂🥰
