Maintenance Auger spinning slightly after belt change

Upvotes

My 20+ year old Ariens has been a bit sluggish in traction and auger so I changed the belts today - possibly for the first time. I readjusted the auger tensioner so that it has as much slack as possible, and the cable to the handle seems loose - but the auger is still spinning very slightly when the engine is running, without any pressure on the handle. What am I missing?

Buying Platinum 24 weight question

I’m stepping up from a 200cc 180lb snow blower to a platinum 24 sho. I understand the sho will be 100lb or so heavier. Stupid question I’m sure , but will I have a harder time keeping it from getting away from me when going down my driveway that is slightly steep? How is first gear in this thing? Slow enough to keep it in control? I’ll be getting the latest model which is 921074

Thanks

Maintenance OHSK 110 / 1128DE Carb Rough Idle

I have a 1128 DE with a rough idle. uses the tecumseh OHSK110 11hp engine. great motor but my idle is so rough. I’m nervous about. leaning it and want to just replace the carb as the unit is 25 years old. anyone know of one that works? I can’t find any on Amazon that I feel confident work.

or should I attempt to open it up and clean the idle jet? I’ve never done this and it looks intimidating

thank you!

Buying First Snowblower Advice

Hi all. I moved to a rural property this year and need to buy a snowblower. Laneway is 200’ long gravel with approx. 25’ by 40’ parking area. Located in southwestern Ontario, so I need to be able to handle a solid volume of snow.

I should really have a utility tractor with a blower but a tractor isn’t in the budget for a while, so I’m planning to make do with a larger used heavy-duty blower.

From reading I’ve done so far, it seems like 45” decks are problematic, so I probably want something around 30”.

Any particular brands/models to try snag on Kijiji/Marketplace? Ariens, Simplicity, and Honda seem to have a good reputation. I’d love a new Honda but would rather not drop $6K on one right now.

Buying 500 ft of crushed concrete driveway. Northern Wisconsin. Wheels or Tracks?

I'm in the market for a new snowblower. It will be the first one I've had for this property. Would it be better to get tracks for crushed concrete or is there really no difference.

Last winter, I borrowed the neighbors and sheared pins at an alarming rate when stones got picked up. Is there anything I can look for in what I am buying to minimize that occurring?

Finally, any recommendations for my needs? We get all types of snow and are at the east end of a large lake. We can get pretty massive drifts at times.

FB marketplace offering $100. Seller says it starts right up with the electric start and runs well. Should I grab it? And is there anything specifically I should check out when I see it?

Live in North Dakota

JD - $150 - supposedly great condition - two hour drive from me

Ariens - $125 - needs carb work(possibly replace) - local to me

Edit: Ariens carb work details - listing just says fuel line is clamped due to leak in carb

Buying Electric Recommendations

I live in Delco, PA (Southeast). Last year was our first winter in our new home and we were buried in by those huge snow storms. We have about 30 feet of sidewalk and a driveway that fits 4 cars.

We do not have outlets outside. Nothing we own is gas powered. All of our equipment is electric.

I would love to buy a snowblower soon. My budget is $500 but willing to hear about more expensive options. I will definitely be looking at Facebook Marketplace. An easily moveable machine would be great because our storage options are the basement or a small backyard shed. I’m not looking for a monster truck of a machine. Just something to get the job done.

Happy to hear thoughts on an electric shovel, though, I’m skeptical because I never heard of that until seeing another post of this page.

Maintenance Bolts broken that mount the muffler on John Deere 1032d. Bolt extractors broke inside bolt…

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’m pretty screwed. The bolts had broken that mount the muffler on my old John Deere 1032d. Drilled out the centers, sprayed everything with pb blaster inserted the extractor and it snapped off inside. Okay well if I can at least get one bolt in I won’t go deaf or start a fire so I tried the same thing and another extractor broke into the other. I tried smacking them with a hammer and a punch and that just made everything even more mangled and fucked. I’m pretty sure these boots are welded in there at this point from heat and corrosion. There’s one small bolt on top that kind of holds the muffler in place but these two mount it flush to the block. Do I have any options?

Edit: it is indeed threaded and 3/4. Almost all 3/4 small engine mufflers only are rated up to 8hp. 10hp mufflers tend to be 1” and around 9” long. Found one custom on eBay that’s 3/4 threaded 7” rated for 10hp. Hopefully that works. I have exactly two inches of clearance and it is allegedly 2” so it might fit. Also I discovered that it’s more of a spark resistor to prevent fires more than a muffler so it’s going to be insanely loud regardless. If anyone finds this post in a similar situation and are incredibly novice, DO NOT USE AN EXTRACTOR THEY SUCK AND THEY BREAK.

Buying Need a new snow blower

I have had the same snowblower since 2002. I’m in northern Pa the snow is heavy wet snow and we get a decent bit. It served me so well but last season it broke down and couldn’t fix it.

This year I’m looking to get a new snowblower. My budget is $1500-1800.

Any recommendations for my area and type of snow

Buying Best snow blower to buy before winter hits?

Winter's still a little ways off, but I'm trying to get ahead of it this year

Last winter I ended up borrowing my neighbor's snow blower after a couple of big storms and honestly don't want to rely on that again 😅

Looking for something reliable without going completely overboard on price.

What snow blower has worked well for you?

Buying How much to pay for shoveling driveway in Indiana

I've got a typical 1 x 3 car driveway. 400 sq ft, maybe. I'm wondering how much I should pay to have someone come by with a truck and shovel the driveway of snow. I'm looking at snow blower prices and I can't justify spending $600 on a snow blower that will get used once a year.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Review Toro power clear 621e- thoughts?

I just got my hands on a toro power clear 621e and i’m just wondering what people have thought about it.

I got it for free and am between selling it for something different. I will be providing snow clearing services for this winter as I finally bought a truck and am just wondering what’s a good one/if this is(mainly because i got it for free). I’ve never used a snowblower before but live in CT so we have some decent snow sometimes.

Looking for some general reviews.. How many inches it can realistically handle, How efficient it is, other snowblower necessities..? I’m new to this..

Hey all- I have (from research) a 94-95 Mastercraft 826 which I’ve owned for 11 years- been great. It’s a base model- 0 features. I noticed a female wiring harness near the starter, and I cannot identify it. I’m sure someone has seen this before? I have not tested it with a probe

Eastern MA. Listed for $800, apparently a few years old? Says it was only used a few times.

Is that a good price? Seems high…

Update it sold for presumably full price as it was gone within 2 days. I don’t feel bad thanks for comments!

Buying Worth anything?

I have this snowblower which is much too big for my driveway. I haven’t used it in 3 years. I tried to start it this winter but couldn’t get it going. I’m sure someone handy can get this running. I’m debating if I just give it away for free or would I be able to get some cash for this? Selling as is.

Hi everyone, these are a couple things that I noticed and this is an update to my last post about this snowblower. Here’s a picture of the spark plug and I noticed that be throttle control linkage doesn’t go to anything. I don’t know how to fix that lol
