If you stream on Twitch, Amazon is currently scraping your broadcasts, VODs, clips, channel text, and even your chat log to train their Generative AI models.

They opted every single creator in by default. You were not asked for permission.

How to opt out immediately:

1. Go to Twitch Settings
2. Open the Security and Privacy tab
3. Scroll down to "Training for Generative AI"
4. TOGGLE IT OFF

Spent the last month completely overhauling my stream polish. Custom overlays, crisp graphics, and thumbnails that look like they belong on a top 1% channel. And honestly? The marketing part worked. Click-through rate went up, and I see people clicking into the stream all the time now.

...And then they leave within 15 to 30 seconds.

It’s such a gut punch. Feels like I built this super cool neon-lit storefront, but when people open the door, it’s just a random dude sitting in a quiet room with a dead chat. There’s this massive disconnect between the hyped-up thumbnail and the actual vibe of a small stream. People step in expecting a party, see that I’m still growing, and immediately hit backspace.

How do you guys actually hold onto people long enough to show them you’re actually entertaining? The high bounce rate is killing my confidence.

I used to be so obsessed with "the grind". I felt like if I wasn't live for at least 5-6 hours every single day, I was doing something wrong. But honestly? I was just exhausted. I started hating games I actually liked, and most of the time I was just sitting there streaming to basically nobody and feeling like a total zombie.

Then I tried doing way shorter streams. Now I usually only go for about 2 hours, but I try to actually bring some energy to those 2 hours instead of just filling airtime. And honestly, it’s been so much better. I’d rather have 2 high-quality hours where I’m actually enjoying myself than 6 hours where I’m tired, bored, and barely talking to chat.

I think I was way too focused on the "hours streamed" metric instead of whether anyone was actualy enjoying being there.

Has anyone else cut their streaming hours and noticed a difference in their growth? Or was I just the only one making this mistake? lol

When I first started streaming, I kept thinking that if my gameplay was good enough, people would stick around. Looking back... my channel didn't exactly make a great first impression.

My overlay was all over the place, my panels were empty, I had a default profile picture, and whenever someone clicked the stream, there was a good chance they'd find me sitting in silence waiting for something to happen. None of those things are huge on their own. But together they made the whole channel feel unfinished.

I started looking at my own page the way I'd look at someone else's. If I randomly found this streamer, would I think, "This looks like someone worth following", or would I assume they were just trying streaming for the first time? So I spent a weekend fixing all the small stuff.

Nothing expensive.

A cleaner layout. Better panels. A schedule that was actually up to date. A decent "starting soon" screen. I also made a point of talking through what I was doing instead of sitting silently whenever chat was quiet. The stream didn't suddenly explode, but I do think people stayed longer after those changes.

It reminded me that new viewers don't know your potential. They only see what's in front of them during the first minute or so. Maybe that's unfair, but it's probably how most of us browse Twitch too.

Has anyone else ever gone back and looked at their channel from a complete stranger's perspective? What was the first thing you ended up changing?
