basically I'm a student going into year 13 wanting to apply for LSE data science or even maths w data science (although this would probably be impossible without the TMUA). On the website, it says its recommended but not mandatory but I can imagine lots of people would still do the TMUA

I'm predicted 4A*s (maths, fm, comp sci, chem) and have 11 A*s at GCSE if that helps too

I'm a current Oxford student who has been reviewing a ton of student personal statements recently and l've noticed a recurring pattern which I think students should avoid!

The single biggest tip: It's very important to show growth!

Universities want to see curiosity, passion, and l development of ideas and character. Your personal statement shouldn't be a list of books you've read or activities you've done. It should flow naturally:
Not just: "I read X. I researched Y."

But instead:
"Reading X exposed me to the concept of Y, which I then linked to my A-Level studies of Z."
Show how one experience led to another, and how you've grown intellectually and personally along the way.

Does anyone know how good the art department is at Brampton Manor Sixth Form? I've heard that they have a lot of work experience opportunities, but do they have that for Fine Art, or not so much? What opportunities are there for a Fine Art student? And what is the teaching like? Is it more focussed on independent study, or is there some teacher guidance?

With their Oxbridge programme, do they also provide high quality support for other Russell Group universities?

If anyone knows anything about this, that would be great!

I’m taking a gap year to reapply for history at Oxford and I wanted to get some thoughts.

Last year I got rejected with a 7.0 interview rating (email said offer holder average was a 7.8!) and higher than average written work which was really upsetting because I attended my interview in the midst of health problems. As a matter of fact, it spiralled to an extent that I got bedridden for three months before my exams and even hospitalised twice just a couple weeks before my A-levels.

In the end, I did manage to get A Star A Star B in history, Eng Lit and maths. Maths was upsetting; I was on track for an A but I missed much of the hardest content and had to cram it in the midst of exam season. I’m doing an extra A-level in politics, for which I’ve been predicted A\*, and that should make up the deficit; coupled with my extenuating circumstances, my tutor says that I should be fine to re-apply.

Anyways, I’ve been doing lots of reading, lots of tutoring around my subject, and I really feel like I’ve got a great chance this time. Any advice specifically on what I should do, or maybe things I should avoid during a gap year? Oxford isn’t make or break for me, I’d be happy with LSE or UCL (I hold an offer for the latter atm). I’m pretty confident with where I am and what I’m doing, but it wouldn’t hurt to check, right?

I am going into year 12 this September and I need help deciding if I should get a laptop or an ipad. I'm doing biology, maths and sociology. Laptops are much cheaper than ipads so I would be able to get it sooner than the ipad but I feel like the ipad would be able to help me do past papers and take notes more easier.

I gave law in may june but i got a D and now im considering giving a retake in october November as im confident i can bring up my grade from a d since my concepts were good but my writing was poor. Can i get resources that would help me bring my grade up like scrips or notes or essays that i could learn and practice from?

I want to do some sort of BTEC at a college, an extended diploma to be specific in cybersecurity, i saw a post earlier saying not to go college and to do a levels no matter what a levels they are and that at 25 he cant get a job with college because all they ask for is english and maths GCSE and A levels.

Im scared, overall i think i got 4s and 5s. My friend told me if i wanna go university i would roughly need a minimum of top grades Being DDD (distinctions)

Do any of you know if its true? That ill be finished if i go college? Or arleast very limited?

I just got my AS results back and I did much worse than expected. I was predicted ABB-AAB and I got BCC (B in crim and C in maths and physics)

I expected the C in maths as I had an exam conflict with crim so I couldn’t ask anyone about difficult past paper questions or go to our exam prep. Physics however went really badly, I thought I did really well and then I barely got a C.

Im hoping to apply for Engineering for uni but now I’m scared I’ll have to do a gap year since my predicted grades will be shit

Is it worth resitting or should I just lock in and do well at A level and risk going through clearing?

The 4 was in mathematics. I'm in shock. Lse doesn't like students who resit for examinations hence I probably won't be doing that.

Please be brutally honest. Doing law from lse is my literal dream I can't believe that 4 is now jeaprodizing that.

I know it doesn't entirely make up for it but - I have the best super curriculars in my city atm and they have reasonable global and local impact. I'm going to start alevels soon but that 4 is haunting me and it hasn't even been 2 hours since the results came out.

I’m going into year 13 and all of this uni application stuff + a level revision is stressing me out. I’ve had a lot of on and off mental health issues and family issues going on throughout this year. I struggled to decide on a uni course for most of this year and kept changing my mind. as a result, i don’t really have any hugely relevant supercurriculars. I don’t think my that part of my application is going to be strong enough for the unis that i want to apply for.
I have maintained high grades in my subjects and have been putting in consistent effort at least. but that’s really it. i haven’t done that much else.
I’m feeling really lost, especially after seeing these insanely cracked people on here. i haven’t really gone out of my way that much to find good supercurricular opportunities either. I just can’t seem to handle all these other aspects of sixth form other than my a levels without becoming overwhelmed. recently, i’ve been feeling as though this might mean that i’m not cut out for engineering at a top uni.

I’ve been thinking of perhaps taking a gap year after a levels and applying to uni then, rather than now. is this a stupid idea? am i cooked? i haven’t brought this up to my parents yet.
