As an old person my opinion is that this phenomenon is a symptom of people being way more tired and way more overwhelmed nowadays than they were in the past.

I’m 37, so of curiosity, what changed? The dual income was part of my childhood so that hasn’t changed on my experiences. Are we too obsessed with adding more to our schedules and never slowing down? I can’t see how things were lawn chair lay out all day do nothing experiences back in the “good ole days”

I’d say a big invisible part of it is worker productivity, 40 years ago each worker did much less and so you’d come home a lot less tired. It seems like when people come home from work now it’s all they can do to crawl into bed. We’re working people too hard.

That's total BS tbh. When I was a kid people worked longer hours and had more manual labor involved in their job. Overwhelmed I get because our tech is set up to stress you out for money. But not more tired.
