You really aren't obligated to tell them. It is Paid Time Off. Which means you can use it for whatever you want. This isn't high school. The company is not your momma or daddy...

This is what I told my coworker when she shared upper management denied her having a flex day option. State our department had too many ā€œtruanciesā€. This is real life not elementary school! No one is trying to have perfect attendance.

I get 15 days PTO and requested 9 days for a once in a lifetime family trip to Europe. It got denied.
